9. Closer
Raph and I were sparring, no weapons, in the dojo today.
I'd beaten him three times!. . . . But he'd beaten me eighteen times.
He pinned me to the ground, with me on my stomach facing the ground. He held my left arm out so I couldn't use it. He leaned over me.
"I win. Again." He said proud of himself. "Agh- yeh yeh I know! Now will you let me go?" I pleaded. "Not until you say it." He demanded. "What?! But that's Mikeys thing!" I protested. "Well if you want me to get off I suggest you say it." He said.
I groaned. "Raphael is all wise and powerful."
"Aaaand?" He sang
"And he's better than me in every possible way!"
"Aaand!"
"And I'm a lowly worm beneath his feet who isn't fit to live on the same planet as him because he's so amazing and I'm a dirt clod!" I said desperately.
"Ok that's enough that'll do." He said as he got off me. I rolled onto my back holding my left arm. Wincing.
I opened my eyes and found Raphs hand in front of my face. Offering help to get up. I took his hand and he lifted me up from the floor.
I smiled at him as he flashed a small smile and we both left the dojo.
The others were watching Space Heroes so Raph and I joined them. Raph broke down the cartoon for me since I had no clue what was happening.
"Shhhhh!" Leo hushed.
"I'm hungry! I want some popcorn!" Raph whined. I smiled and raised my hand slowly turning it left and right.
Raphael looked at me quizzically until a giant back of popcorn popped in front of his face levitating.
"Thanks Breeze!" He thanked. "Your welcome." I said while taking a handful of popcorn from the bag.
We watched the show for another 20 minutes and then it ended.
"That. Was. Amazing!" Leo cheered.
"Eh, a little too sci-fi for my liking." I admitted. "Hah! In your face Leo! I'm not the only one who thinks that!" Raph yelled to his older brother. I giggled quietly. Leo just rolled his eyes and headed to the dojo.
"Oh yeh I just remembered!" Mikey cheered as he jumped off the couch and headed up top. We all looked at each other quizzically.
About five minutes later, he reappeared holding a small cardboard box.
"Raph! You remember that day when I set up that prank and you set It off when you left your room and the bucket dropped honey on you and then two pillows got whacked in your face and the feathers stuck to you and I played the chicken dance song?" Mikey said in one breath. I stared at him wide eyed and amazed.
". . . Yes. . " Raph said through clenched teeth.
"Well! I got you something to make up for it!" Mikey exclaimed with a wide smile and held the box out in front of him.
Raph looked at him, narrowing his eyes on the box. "How do I know this isn't another prank?" He said suspiciously.
"Because!" Mikey started, opening up the box. He reached his hand into the box and pulled something out. "They're 'Modern Ninja' magazines!" Mikey cheered.
Raphael's eyes widened with joy. As did mine. That was the latest issue. Omg!
I flew straight towards Mikey, full speed and grabbed the magazine. "Woah! Mikey how'd you get these?!" I asked. "I ordered them and asked them to deliver it to the street near a manhole cover." He explained.
Raph had joined Mikey and taken the box from him. "Thanks Mikey!" He said. Wow. He thanked him. "No problamo bro!" Mikey walked off to his room.
I read the magazine I was holding while flying upside down.
"Breeze!" Raph yelled at me.
"Yeh?"
"I'd like that magazine."
"5 more minutes?" I asked sweetly.
He smirked at me and grabbed his grapple. He threw it at my ankle and pulled me down.
Once I hit the floor, gently, he ran past me and snatched the magazine out of my hands.
"Hey! Raph! That ones got the new clothing catalogue! I want a new outfit! Give it back!" I yelled while chasing him around the room. "You'll have to catch me if you want it back!" He snickered.
I smirked at him and raised my hand in front of me. I turned my hand inwards and pulled my hand back towards me. The magazine instantly came flying to me. "Thanks." I smiled. And walked towards my room while reading the magazine.
Raph chuckled and picked up the box holding the rest of his magazines and carried them to his room.
I stayed in my room for the rest of the night. Circling outfits that I liked, new kunais that looked shinier and better than my old one all sorts of new fancy ninja stuff.
I looked at my clock, 12:35am. Geez! How long have I been staring at this magazine?!
I tried to go to sleep, but it wasn't gonna happen, I kept turning and tossing. I got outta bed and headed for the kitchen.
I grabbed a glass and filled it with water. I went and sat down on the couch.
Suddenly I heard footsteps. I shot my head around.
"Can't sleep?"
"Uh yeh, sorry if I woke you Raph." I apologised.
"No worries, I can't sleep either." He said as he sat down next to me. We sat there in silence for a while.
"Can I ask you a question?" He asked. "Sure." I replied.
"What happened to your parents?" He asked quietly. My heart froze and I tensed up. He noticed, "If you don't wanna talk about it that's ok." He quickly said. "No, it's fine. Um they died. . . In a car crash. When I was five." I explained while looking at the ground.
"Didn't you go to an orphanage?"
"No. See the car crash was near Murikamis and I don't know how, maybe my parents threw me out before the car crashed, maybe I fell out when it crashed but somehow I ended outside the car. Right in front of Murikamis shop." I said. A tear or two fell down my cheek.
"He took me in and raised me. Once I got older he told me what happens when I was 5. I also realised I couldn't live under his roof while doing nothing. I was living there for free and he wasn't even my family. That's sometimes how I feel here. With you guys." I continued.
Raph wiped away my tear gently. "Breeze you're our family now. This is your home. Don't think anything else." He assured me. He was being particularly nice tonight. I mean, he's rarely this nice to his brothers.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" I questioned. Raphs eyes widened and he slightly blushed. "I-I don't know." He said, obviously trying to avoid the topic. So I let him. "Ok." I said simply.
"Can I ask you one more question?" He started.
"Of course." I replied. "Is Breeze your real name?" He asked. I sighed and looked down.
"No. Before I was with you guys, I was in many gangs, not just the purple dragons, and I didn't feel comfortable using my real name. So I came up with a code name: Breeze." I explained.
"So what's tie real name. If you don't wanna tell me it's ok I get it." He continued. Do I? Ugh! Breeze listen to yourself! These guys just gave you a home a bed and food, and your debating whether or not to trust them with your real name?!
"It's . . . Cassandra. Cassandra Dorian." I said.
"Cassandra. Pretty name." He smirked. "Heh thanks." I smiled shyly. I haven't heard anyone call me that in a LONG time.
"Anything in that magazine you liked?" He said. "Heh yeh there are these awesome kunais in there and some clothes that look cool! But they're quite expensive. So probably won't be getting them." I joked.
We both laughed and talked for a while longer finding out more about each other and finally went to bed.
I entered my room and flopped onto my bed.
Ahh. Raph.
