24. Gone

Her eyes slowly started fluttering open, everything was blurry at first but blurred colours eventually made their way to solid images.

Once her vision was back to normal she realised she was in Raphs room, in his bed. She sat up, suddenly remembering everything that happened yesterday as a spiderweb of pain crawled up and down her arm.

She winced and held her arm in pain, nothing she couldn't deal with though. There was a small, white bandage wrapped around where the dart had hit her.

She got up off the bed and made her way out of the room. When she exited Raphs room, it was pitch black. No one was out there.

She walked around the lair, checking the kitchen first, no one. Then the dojo, again, nothing. She then walked into the living area with the tv and saw a clock leaning on the side of the tv.

1:04am.

"Oh. . . "

Suddenly she heard soft footsteps come from the bedrooms. She spun around only to be greeted by Leonardo. She relaxed immediately.

"Cassandra? What're you doin up?" He asked.

She laughed lightly and turned around completely to face him, "I could ask you the same thing."

"I was training all day today so I was gonna watch some Space Heroes now." He explained whilst sitting down and turning the tv on.

She smiled and then realised what he said, her eyes widening instantly.

"All day?. . . How long was I out?!" She asked frantically. Leo turned back to face her, "Almost two days." Then turned back to the tv and started watching his favourite show.

She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, trying to work out what exactly happened to make her unconscious for almost 48 hours. She looked at her arm where the bandage was. 'What did she do to me?. . .'

"Where's Raph?"

"Should be in his room." He replied, not taking his eyes off the screen.

"But. . . He wasn't in there when I woke up. . . ?"

Leo just shrugged, too engrossed in his cartoon. Cassandra smiled and shook her head, walking back to Raphs room.

She entered the room and looked around in the dimly lit area. Finally, her eyes landing on an asleep Raphael, at the end of his bed on the floor. No wonder she didn't see him on her way out.

She knelt down beside him and gently cupped his cheek, slowly rubbing her thumb back and forth.

"Raph?. . . Hey, Raphie." She whispered. He mumbled something and slowly opened his eyes. When his vision focused he sat up.

"Cassie! You're awake!" He said. "Yeh, I am." She replied smiling. "What're you doin on the floor?" She asked. "Oh, I wanted to give you the whole bed to heal on, so you weren't squashed in the corner or anything like that." He explained. Cassandra smiled at his generosity and then stood up, holding her hand out to help Raph up.

He took her hand and she helped him up, instantly regretting her decision. She clutched her arm in pain as she strained it too much.

"Cas, you right?" He asked holding her arm gently. "Yeh, fine, nothing I can't handle."

He then led her to the bed and laid down, Cassandra placing herself in the little space between his torso and arm and nuzzling her head into him.

The next morning the two of them woke up in the same position they'd fallen asleep in.

They walked out of the room and went to the kitchen where the other three brothers were already having breakfast.

"Sup Raph!!" Mikey cheered. "Hey." Replied Raph. When he sat done he allowed Cassandra into view as she was behind him.

"CASSIE!!!" Mikey yelled and jump across the bench to hug her. She laughed before returning the hug. "Hey Mikey."

"How's your arm feel?" Donnie asked. "Not bad, still sore but nothing to worry about." She informed him. He nodded in acknowledgement.

Mikey then crawled backwards from Cassandra back to his seat over the bench and managed to knock a bowl over in the process.

Cassandra, without moving her arm at all, turned her wrist and flexed her fingers, accessing her powers to stop the bowl from making contact with the ground.

But then a loud clash could be heard. Shattered pieces of the bowl splattered across the ground.

"MIKEY!" The three brothers scolded in unison. Mikey shut his eyes, hands behind his back and smiled innocently.

Cassandra was too distracted to listen to the brothers fight. She stared at her hand confused as to why the bowl smashed. She shook it off and put it down to fatigue. Not wanting to stress over it too much.

Later on in the evening the brothers decided to go out on patrol, Cassandra following close behind.

"You sure you're alright to come?" Leonardo asked. "Yeh fine, my arms better." Cassandra assured. The leader in blue nodded and then signalled for everyone to move.

They exited the sewer cap and all climbed to the rooftop, including Cassandra. No one questioned her though.

Michelangelo was skating across the rooftops as per usual, jumping over the gaps and performing mini stunts.

"Hey dudes have you ever thought of what it'd be like if we were like. . . you know. . . One! Entity!" Mikey said whilst first pumping at the end. Everyone stopped and stared at him.

"No, Mikey, we have not!" Raph yelled irritated and Mikey's stupidity. Mikey then skated more and stopped in a hand stand on his board.

"But like, how cool would that be?! Donnie's brains, Leo's skills, Cassie's powers, my charm and. . . Raph." Mikey said, still on his board, trying to annoy Raph. It worked.

Raph growled and was about to jump in Mikey and knock him off his board, but before anything could happen, Mikey's board kept rolling and soon hit the hit of the building, causing Mikey to fall off and down the building.

"MIKEY!!" Cassie yelled, holding out her hand to catch him. But he didn't come back up. Cassandra started to panic. They all ran to edge of the building and saw Mikey clinging to his kasuragami chain which was hooked around the fire escape of someone's apartment. "All good Bros!" He yelled.

Cassandra was anything but good. She stumbled back staring at her hands. 'Where are my powers?!'

Raph turned and looked over his shoulder. "Cas? What's wrong?" He asked. Cassandra looked up at him, desperation in her eyes, desperate for answers. "M-my powers, t-they're gone!" She stuttered, she then held out her hand and tried to make Raph fly, nothing.

By now all the turtles had turned and we're watching. "But, how?!" Donnie questioned. "I-I don't know I just- if it-. . . " she trailed off, it all clicked and finally made sense.

". . . Karai." She finished. Donnie's brain clicked and realised it was the serum in the dart!

Donnie paced around the rooftop, thinking of possible explanations as to what was in the serum. "But, it took your powers away, and you got those powers when the mutagen was in early stages. That means. . . It has to have been some sort of. . . retro mutagen!" He finally concluded. "And considering the mutagen hadn't fully evolved, this retro mutagen doesn't have to be as complex as retro mutagen for mutants like us." Donnie gestured to his brothers. "Which would explain why they were able to make a retro mutagen at all."

The five then decided to go back to the lair and Donnie was to conduct some research on Cassandra and her condition.

---

Cassandra was sitting on the bench in Donnie's lab looking at the ground sadly.

Donnie was running around his lab, from Cassandra to his computer to his beakers then back to his computer.

After hours and hours Donnie finally came up to Cassandra.

"Cassie, I um. . . I'm sorry. But. . . " Donnie didn't have to say anymore Cassandra knew what he was trying to say. He didn't have a cure. She nodded her head slowly and slid off the bench.

Donnie watched her painfully, he hated not knowing how to fix things, it killed him. He was meant to be good at this and when he couldn't succeed it ate away at him.

Raphael turned and saw Cassandra moping out of the lab. "Cas! What happened? You all good?" He questioned rapidly as he ran towards her.

She looked up at him with pain in her eyes.

". . . Aw man. Cassie, I'm sorry." He said as he wrapped her in a hug. She immediately started crying once she was in the protection of Raph. Losing her powers was like losing a part of her. She'd grown up with these powers, relied on these powers, built a lifestyle around these powers.

She didn't know how she was going to build a lifestyle around this problem.
