Seeing Him
A/N: This book will switch occasionally between all Turtles included and one chapter for each Turtle. Just letting you know.
Leonardo
A sudden gust of cold wind blew your (h/c) in and out of your eyes as you say on the fire escape outside your apartment. You wiped away more salty tears as you thought about the day. Your ex had tried to apologize, pleading with you to give him another chance, but you knew he wasn't worth your time. That still didn't mean it hurt any less. You wiped your wet cheeks on your sleeve.
"What's wrong?" you jumped at the familiar voice of the vigilante from last night. You could see his figure, crouching on the ladder, still hidden in the shadows.
"I'm fine," you lied, turning your head so he wouldn't be able to see your red, puffy eyes.
"I, um, just came to make sure you and your mother were okay," he mumbled, and you smiled faintly at his thoughtfulness.
"Yeah, we're okay," you replied, standing up. The guy shifted backwards, making sure you couldn't see him. "Although," you continued, "it would be nice to see the guy who saved us."
"Trust me, you don't wanna see me," he said.
"Oh, come on," you coaxed, "You can't be that bad."
He hesitated, then finally said, "Just promise you won't scream."
"Why would I--" you faltered as Leonardo stepped into the light. He was... a turtle?! Your eyes roamed over his green skin and three-fingered hands, skimming over the shell on his back. You glimpsed his muscled form, and blushed slightly. You saw his eyes, the same startling deep nlue, surrounded by a similarly colored mask.
"See?" you finally spoke, walking up to him, "Told you."
The turtle was shocked. "You're not afraid?"
"Are you kidding? You saved my mom and I from getting mugged! Why would I be scared of you?"
Leonardo laughed quietly. You gestured for him to wait while you climbed in your window. You came out moments later with a small slip of paper.
"What's this?" he asked, as you handed it to him.
"My number. I owe you, after you saved us from that thug last night. So, if there's anything I can help you with, anything at all, text me." You smiled as you placed your number in his palm.
Leonardo stared in awe for a second at the paper, but quickly recovered his calm, cool, and collected air.
"Thanks," he tucked the scrap into his belt, then looked around, looking up at the full moon, "nice night."
"Yeah," you said sadly, "yeah, it is."
Leonardo's seemed to notice your unhappiness. but you were grateful when he didn't push you on the matter.
"I have to get going," he almost mumbled, and you nodded in agreement. He climbed the railing of the fire escape, preparing to jump.
"See you around, Leonardo," you waved as he turned to look at you, snuggling into your sweater to keep warm.
"Call me Leo," he replied, "and you are...?"
"Y/N," you said. Leo smiled, then leapt down, leaving you to your thoughts. But most of your thoughts were about him too.
Donatello
"No!" You cried as you sat on the edge of your seat, book in hand. Percy Jackson had just taken hold of the sky, to save his friend, Annabeth (hehehe ^.^). (P.S. I don't regret putting in a PJO reference. you all should know this.)
"Shhh!" Everyone around you hushed, and you huffed in exasperation. You tucked your book into your bag and started to walk out of the library. As pushed your way out the door, you bumped into a guy in an oversized coat and hat.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't--" you faltered as he glanced at you.
Bright, intelligent brown orbs peeked out from under the hat and widened as the guy realized he'd saved you last night from getting blasted to pieces. Your eyes widened as you recognized him too. Before he could say anything, you pulled him to the side street behind the building.
"Donatello, right?" You asked, turning and releasing him from your grasp.
"O-oh, yeah," he stumbled, "b-but just call me D-Donnie."
A small smile tugged at the corners of your mouth as you listened to him trying to speak. "Well, Donnie," you started, "could you please explain why that man wanted to MUTATE ME?!?!"
Donnie sighed, as if he'd been expecting the question. "That was actually a robot, controlled by an alien race called the Kraang."
You just stared at him, mouth slightly open, so he continued, "They've been trying to invade earth and make it another dimension x, where they come from. And they already succeeded once. don't you remember?"
"Remember what? I just moved here from the West Coast 3 weeks ago."
Donnie nodded in understanding. "Well, about 4 months ago, the Kraang brought in an entire army. They invaded New York and turned everyone into alien mutants."
"And how did nobody find out about this?!" You asked.
"The media and army were being mind controlled. We could barely find any help. We only just managed to save the city in time, before the Kraang took over the world."
"Wait a second," you interrupted, "what do mean, 'save the city'? You sound like you're part of some elite super hero team." You gasped, and grabbed hold of Donnie's shoulders. "Hang on... ARE YOU AN AVENGER?!?!"
Donnie chuckled. "Not exactly," he replied, removing his coat and hat. Your jaw dropped. You thought your eyes were going to pop out of your head. standing in front of you, was a green, talking... turtle! Your eyes lingered over his purple mask, and you glimpsed the staff strapped to his shell. You walked around him.
"Cool," you muttered, observing him, "Nice bo staff!"
"You know about ninja weapons?" Donnie inquired, incredulous.
"I read up on some stuff," you said, fingering a small pattern on his shell, "Nothing much, just some stuff on ancient Japan."
"So, I'm guessing you like books?" He asked. "My friend," you stated, " 'like' is an understatement. The library is like a second home to me! It helps me concentrate on the important things. Although no matter where I go, I never can be focused enough to understand biology."
"I-I could help you with that," he offered, "i-if you'd like."
"Sounds great!" You pulled a sheet of paper out of your bag and scrawled your name and number onto it, handing it to Donnie, who gazed at it intently.
"Y/N?" He said, reading your name. You tucked a stray piece of your h/c hair behind your ear.
"Yeah, but N/N is fine too."
"O-ok," he stuttered.
"Well, let me know if you wanna study some time!" You exclaimed, pulling your hood up and walking away, "Asta lavista, Donnie!"
Donatello gave a small wave, then looked back in awe at your number.
Raphael
Another trip to the bakery after practice, and you munched happily on a cookie. You hummed quietly as you made your way home. F/s hadn't been as difficult today, and the night air cooled your sweating body just enough. As you crossed the street, you saw a man huddled in an alley. He looked cold, shivering under his thin blanket, and his face was pale and thin. He looked very hungry. You glanced down at your warm jacket, then at your bag of cookies.
Well, you thought, these cookies will probably just slow me down anyway. You trotted over to the man, who stood up and looked at you anxiously, as if expecting you to tell him off.
"Here, sir," you offered, handing him the bag of goodies, "you look like you need this a lot more than me."
The homeless man stared at you. "Really?" He asked, bewildered.
"Yes. Go on, take it."
"Thank you, miss," he exclaimed, gingerly taking the pastry bag and nodding to you gratefully before walking away, leaving you alone... or so you thought.
You looked around and noticed this was the place you'd spotted the strange vigilante the night before. you walked to the spot where the odd hero had been, and searched over the area. But there was no evidence of three Purple Dragons being beat up here.
"You know," you whirled around at to face the familiar voice from last night, "it's rude to snoop."
"Is that you, Raphael?" You asked tentatively .
"No. It's the pizza delivery man. Of course it's me."
You walked toward him. "It's also rude to not introduce yourself properly," you retorted, trying to see him more clearly in the dying light.
Knowing you wanted to see him, Raphael responded, "Not a chance. A little girl like you would probably run away."
You felt your temper boil. "Okay, why does everyone think that just because I'm a little smaller, I can't take care of myself?! I would kick your butt right now, if I wanted to!"
"Oh yeah, I'm sure I wouldn't stand a chance against your tiny fists and scrawny arms."
You rolled your eyes in frustration. "just come out!" You demanded.
When he finally did come out of hiding, your eyes widened in disbelief. you were standing face to face with... a turtle? You saw the sais strapped to his belt, and his red mask.
"So... you're a ninja?" You asked. Raphael looked surprised. "Really? Not, 'oh no, talking mutant turtle'?"
"Hey, I've seen things in this city that would put your appearance to shame," you smirked, "So who's your sensai?"
"How do you even know I'm a ninja?!"
"I'm not an idiot!" You exclaimed, folding your arms over your chest, "Only a ninja would have sais and be able to take on the Purple Dragons."
Raphael leaned against the wall. His electric green eyes stared you down, but you held your ground. a long moment of silence passed.
"So," he started, "do you usually give away your food to homeless people?"
You looked at the ground, kicking a pebble around. "You saw that?"
"Uh huh."
"See, that's my problem," you admitted, "I'm too darn generous for my own good. Now I'm absolutely starving, and I have nothing to eat."
Raphael walked up to you. "Try Murukami's by the Argosy Theater. He's got some pretty awesome dishes."
"Thanks," you muttered, shifting your sports bag on your shoulder.
"And... here." He handed you a slip of paper, and you saw a number scrawled onto it. "Now that you know about me, I have a feeling my enemies will be a lot more interested in you. Use this in emergencies only. got it?"
"Oookaaay," you said, slipping the paper into your pocket. You began to walk away.
"Oh, so you're not even gonna tell me your name?!" He shouted, "Talk about rude!"
You laughed and yelled over shoulder, "Y/N! So long, Raphael!"
Raphael shook his head. "Raph!" He hollered before opening a manhole and jumping into it.
Michelangelo
"Hola? Any vigilante wanna come out here?" You almost shouted into the alley, "Anyone?"
You'd come here this morning too, wanting to see the guy who had saved you the night before. No such luck. You looked up at the sunset. You grinned as you got an idea.
You scaled the nearest fire escape to the roof, and sat down, dangling your feet over the edge. You watched as the city and to life in twilight, thousands of lights blinking, the entire city bustling with beginning night life. Music blared on your iPod, and it switched to Still Into You, by Paramore. You bobbed your head to the beat, then just couldn't help yourself. You shot up to your feet and began dancing, small movements at first, before busting out your best moves.
I should be over all the butterflies, but I'm into you! You acted as if you were falling, but at the last minute, caught yourself and jumped back into a sweet pose.
And baby, even our worst nights, I'm into you! You took a running start and leapt into the air, one arm up and the other to the side, with your legs kicked out in a mid-air split.
Let 'em wonder how we got, this, far, 'cause I don't really need to wonder at all, You coffee grinded before twirling up.
And after all this time, I'M STILL INTO YOU! You cartwheeled before leaping into a pose, holding up a peace sign and bowing to an imaginary audience as the song ended.
"Sweet moves!" You froze and looked over to the figure leaned against the water tower. His playful voice instantly confirmed that he had been the one to save you last night.
"Thanks!" You exclaimed, "By the way, awesome exit you made last night!"
"Huh?" Michelangelo sounded confused.
"I mean, when you left, you full-on just jumped into the sewer! It was sweeeet!"
"Why, thank you!" He said in a mock suave voice, "Diving into sewers does seem to please the ladies! "
You laughed, and stepped forward. "You know, you'd get a lot more of the ladies if they could actually see you."
"You don't wanna see me. You'd scream," You could hear his sadness.
"Oh, come on, you can't be that ugly," you teased, "I won't scream."
He finally stepped out of the shadows, and you caught your breath. I mean, who wouldn't be surprised? But you learned a while ago not to judge a book by its cover.
"Awesome! You're a turtle!"
"You mean, you're not scared?"
"Nope," you said, popping the p.
"This... is... GREAT!!!" He said, racing up to you and engulfing you in a hug, "I finally have another human friend! We can play video games, and pull pranks, and eat pizza!"
You perked up at the mention of your favorite food. "Pizza?! I love pizza!"
"Me too!"
"Here, hang on," you searched your backpack and found a pen, then frowned, "Aw shoot, I don't have paper."
Michelangelo bowed cheesily and held out his arm. you quickly scribbled your name and number, and he did the same on your arm.
"Next time you wanna challenge me in a pizza eating contest, call me!"
"You got it! Cool name!" He exclaimed, glancing at what you wrote.
"Thanks!" You looked at what he'd written on your forearm, "Mikey?"
"Yeah, Michelangelo is a huge mouthful."
"Thank goodness! I thought I was gonna have to call you that the whole time!" You said.
You checked your iPod for the time, and gasped. "Oh no, my parents are gonna kill me. I gotta go!" You hugged Mikey quickly, then ran to the fire escape. "Adios, Mikey!"
Mikey waved excitedly. "bye, Y/N!"
