One Will Rise, One Will Fall

As the patrol came back with Luna Spirit's body, the tribe was shocked. Misty took the rear and she had tear stains on her cheeks. Rose darted forward toward Star, obviously she was worried about him, especially after she noticed the neck wound he has, and the tortoise shell she-cat guided him to Flower's den. Ginger and Oak laid their deceased leader's body in the middle of the clearing for the rest of the tribe to mourn her death. Misty leaped onto the lowest branch on the great oak and called a meeting, drawing everyone's attention to her.

"Northern Tribe, my mother had sadly passed away and we all mourn her death, and. . .I will not be the new leader of this tribe, someone else will." She announced, shocked murmurs rose from the cats below and Star noticed Fang's eyes light up with expectation, "I have decided who will be the new official leader will be. . .Star, is the cat I have chosen to be the Northern Tribe's leader." She meowed, looking at him. Star blinked in surprise, he heard a faint growl of anger from Fang.

"I-I can't. . .I don't think I-I am good enough to lead." He stammered, Rose pressed against him and looked into his eyes.

"I think you can, you can lead us to greatness." She murmured, pushing her nose to his in a small kiss. He smiled as he looked back up at Misty. Her blue gaze was pleading, yet firm. Star suddenly had the same feeling grow inside him for Misty, but he told himself that his future will be with Rose. Maybe, he's wrong. He nodded.

"Yes, I accept." He meowed, Misty's gaze lit up and she smiled brightly. The tribe cheered for their new leader, especially Ginger, being the loudest. But, Star noticed Fang glaring at him from the midst of the crowd, somehow, he had a bad feeling about him. He and Fang weren't always getting along. Rose pressed closer to him, which knocked Star out of his thoughts. He purred and licked her head with affection as Misty trotted toward the two, having an unusual look of disappointment on her face.

"We need to do the ceremony, Star, you have to leap onto the lowest branch of the Great Oak, and the rest of us will take it from there." With a tender lick on the cheek, Star left Rose's side to leap onto the Great Oak, where he gazed down at the cats before him. The Northern Tribe looked up at him in silence, Star was afraid he had to do something, but a minute or two later, each cat bowed their heads, eyes closed. The wind picked up and Star felt his fur ruffle in the breeze, he felt a powerful presence around him, suddenly, he was blinded by a white light and Luna Spirit's blue gaze bore into his. She didn't look the old and weak leader she was before, she looked young and her muscles were visible under her fur, she was transparent and her fur was covered in shining stars. She gazed at Star with an approving smile.

"Misty has made the right choice, it has always been your destiny to lead the Northern Tribe." She meowed, Star blinked in surprise.

"B-But, I wasn't even born here, let alone have a destiny like this." He protested. Luna Spirit sighed and nodded.

"I understand, I wasn't born in the Northern Tribe either, many of us weren't, but it was our ancestors who guided us to the tribes." She reasoned. Star thought about this, his ancestors have yet to be known, so how would they guide him to join a tribe of cats? He didn't understand. He looked back up at his former leader, she gave him a nod.

"We, the ancestors of the Northern Tribe, have approved of you becoming their new leader. You will face many challenges, and you'll lose the ones you love most, but remember, your Tribe will stand by you through thick and thin. But, when a cat is caught between his family and his tribe, one will rise, and one will fall, just beware the reptile in blue, as well as red and purple. You shall be known as Star Spirit." She rested her muzzle onto his head and Star Spirit's eyes opened to see the low branch he was standing on below him. He raised his head and gazed at his Tribe, whom their heads were still bowed, until Ginger spoke up.

"Star Spirit! Star Spirit!" She chanted, the Tribe soon followed. Rose chanted the loudest, but Misty seemed upset about Rose chanting her leader's name the loudest. Star Spirit leaped down from the branch as the tortiseshell she-cat trotted toward him, purring. He licked her head with affection and she returned the lick. Misty stalked away. Star Spirit noticed her and he kept thinking about what Luna Spirit told him, one will rise, and one will fall. What did that mean?
