A Tragic Death
A year since Star had seen his 'brothers' and the only one who ever asked about them was Misty, since she attacked them, while she thought they severely hurt Star. But his main concerns were on Luna Spirit, she was growing old, she was 71 years old and is very weak to even leave her own den. Soon, Misty will take over as leader. It is the tradition for the kin of a leader to take their parent's place as their tribe's leader, unless Misty would decide for someone else to be leader if she doesn't think she will lead the tribe well. Which she may have already considered it, though Star doesn't know who she chose to replace her.
"You know, I can get this leader position off you if you'd like." Fang offered Misty as Star came back from a hunt. Star wouldn't want Fang, out of all cats, to lead the Northern Tribe, they both have been bitter rivals since Star joined the tribe years ago. Fortunately, Misty refused and padded toward him.
"How was your hunt?" She asked Star. He looked up at her and his gaze shifted to the prey stock. "It went well, especially with Rose helping, I lost count of how many pieces of prey she caught." He gazed over at the pretty tortiseshell she-cat, she stared back at him as she was talking to Crescent, a silver tabby. Misty pinned her ears to the back of her head, there was a hint of. . .jealousy, in her eyes.
"Luna Spirit!" Storm, a white Fighter, called. The old leader emerged slowly out of her den, Misty went to help her walk. Storm trotted toward his leader, a worried expression on his face.
"We tracked down Southern Tribe scents on out territory, I think they're stealing prey." He reported. Luna Spirit growled and called the tribe together.
"Southern Tribe scents have been found in our territory, I'll be leading a patrol to find the wolves who have stolen our prey. Misty, Oak, Star, Hawk, Pine, Maple, and Ginger. You will be joining me." She announced. The requested cats joined at the camp entrance and Luna Spirit led them across the territory and they soon came across a Southern Tribe patrol. Star growled as he recognized one of the wolves as the same black and white one he faught when they tried to invade.
"What do you think you are doing on our territory!?" Oak, a dark ginger tom, spat. The wolf leading the patrol, a grey and white male, stepped up.
"The Southern Tribe is running low on prey and we need as much as we can get for winter." He replied. Luna Spirit growled.
"And what right do you have the our prey? We are struggling to gather prey ourselves, you're making everything harder." Ginger snarled from beside Star, he covered her mouth with his tail to shut her up. The last thing they need is a fight, if anyone were to get hurt, or worse. . . .Star wouldn't forgive himself. He stepped forward.
"If you agree to leave our territory immediately, Eagle, there will be no blood spilled tonight." He meowed, calmly, Eagle gave him a thoughtful look.
"You are brave young one, the heart of a true Fighter. It's a shame that I have to fight you." With those words the brown and white wolf lunged at the ginger tom, Star's blue eyes were suddenly wide with surprise, Eagle pinned him down.
"Star!" Ginger yowled in fear. Hawk and Oak rushed in to help their friend, they both pushed Eagle off and pushed him to the ground, that was when the rest of the Southern Tribe patrol attacked. A brown female went straight for Misty. Ginger rushed to Star's aid, he had a deep scratch on his neck where Eagle had attacked him, it wasn't bleeding bad but he has a slim chance of making it out of the fight alive.
"Star? It's ok, you're going to be fine." Ginger murmured as she grabbed moss and began to clean the wound, then putting marigold on it so it won't get infected. Star slowly opened his eyes, his vision was blurry and the only cat he could make out was Misty fighting the brown wolf still, the wolf had pinned Misty down and was going for the final blow.
"No!" He yowled as loud as he can, though no one seemed to hear him, and the wolf slashed across Misty's neck and she cried out in pain, though her voice was distorted, it sounded strange to Star. He didn't care about his wounds anymore, he struggled to his paws and leaped at the wolf, only to realize the wolf was Eagle.
"To late, weakling! She's gone!" He spat. Star growled and turned around, looking at Misty's body, hoping to see her chest rise and fall with breathing. He looked in pure horror that the body wasn't Misty's, it was Luna Spirit's.
Eagle scrambled away from him, he and the rest of his patrol escaped into their own territory. Star only stared at his leader's body.
"No!" Came a familiar yowl, Misty was looking in terror at her mother's body. Star was almost relieved that she was alright, but Luna Spirit's death will shaken up the whole Tribe. Misty crouched beside her and buried her muzzle into Luna Spirit's blood stained fur. Ginger came up beside Star and brushed her pelt against his.
"Star, how are you holding up?" Pine asked, Ginger gave her brother an irritated look. Star ignored her and looked at the young Fighter.
"Yes, Pine, I'm alright." He meowed as Maple joined them, crouching beside Misty. Looks like she's our new leader, Star thought.
