Bree X Connor

Bree waved to her parents as she ran into the school building. It was the first day of school. It wasn't that she was excited for school. She was excited to see Connor again. This time, she could see him without fear of getting caught by her parents and grounded even longer. For a while they were considering homeschooling her because she would always run off. Not to skip school, exactly... But hey. What's more important? Wasting time in boring classes or saving the world?

She looked all over the halls in search of him, but couldn't see him anywhere. She sighed and looked around. If she wasn't still grounded from her phone, she'd text him and ask where he was.

She decided to put her second earbud in and go to her locker. She put all of her junk in there except for the first three periods' supplies. One of her earbuds got pulled out of her ear, "How am I supposed to talk to you if you have both earbuds in?"

She turned to see the whole reason she wanted to be here in school, "Connor!" She smiled widely and hugged him tightly. He blushed slightly. It had been a month since he last snuck in to visit her, yet it felt like far longer. "How's life?" She asked. He shrugged, "You know. The usual. Going to other worlds, visiting fairy tale characters..." He joked. She slugged his arm, "Stop it. You're making me jealous! I've just been stuck in my stupid room."

He felt sympathetic for her, "Hey, if it helps you feel better, my mom and Bob grounded me from my phone after that too. Still don't have it."

Bree huffed, "I still don't get why we got grounded for saving the world. Like, what logic is that?"

"My thoughts exactly." He agreed. He looked at her. For so long he wanted to tell her how he felt, but every time he tried, he either got too nervous, or something happened to prevent it. He was truly in love with her. He knew that he'd do the exact same thing for Bree that Rook did for Alex if it came to it. Die for her.

"Connor?" His thoughts jumped back into reality as he looked at her. She said, "I'll see you later. The bell rang." She didn't look impressed, "Next time, try to find me sooner so we can talk longer." She winked at him as she walked away. Connor blinked, "Uh, y-yeah , I will. See you at lunch!"

His heart fluttered. She hugged him and winked at him in the space of just a few minutes!

-----------At lunch----------------------------

The new popular boy from the end of last year, Darien, approached Bree as she sat alone at the table. He sat beside her, "Hey. How was your summer?"

Bree turned to him, "Pretty good." She didn't give anything away, "How about you? Do you miss Ohio?"

He shrugged, "Yeah. I went there over the summer and got to see my friends again. But some things about this school make it all worth it to be here instead. Like you." He stared into her eyes and smiled.

Connor entered the cafeteria and saw Darien sitting beside Bree. He was sitting really close to her. Connor clenched his teeth. He remembered the last week of school last year. Darien had threatened Connor telling him to back off of Bree. Connor wasn't about to lose Bree to this cheap dirty player. He sped to the table and sat directly in front of Darien, "Hey. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with the other jerks over there?"

Darien scowled and turned to Connor, "What gives?"

"You should be asking yourself that question." Connor said, "I was her friend first."

Bree glanced back and forth between them as they continued to argue. She'd never seen this defensive side of Connor. Their voices began to raise and the other students turned their heads to see what was going on.

Darien suddenly stood up quickly, "You know what? How about you come fight me you little-"

"Hey! Guys relax!" Bree stood up. Neither of the boys seemed to hear. Connor narrowed his eyes at Darien, "Alright. Let's do this." He pulled the sleeves up on his jacket. Darien began to bounce back and forth on his feet.

They sure chose a great time to do this. All of the teachers left for a few minutes. Fights were very rare in this school.

The boys began to circle one another. Connor was definitely smaller than the senior before him, but he didn't let that intimidate him. Connor was terrified, but he didn't show it. This was the time for him to prove to Bree that he loved her.

Bree stepped in between the two of them and put a hand on their chests to keep them apart, "Guys! Don't fight! I-"

"I'll keep you safe from this monster." Darien didn't take his eyes off of Connor as he pushed Bree to the side. Connor scoffed, "I'm the monster? Bree knows the truth about how I am. And the truth about you. You dirty-"

Darien silenced him by punching him in the gut. Connor grunted. "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

"Connor! Don't do it! I know you better than this!" He turned his gaze to Bree. She had a pleading gaze, "You're better than this!"

Connor glared at Darien who was motioning for him to fight back, "Come on. Try me."

Connor suddenly realized what he should do. He went right past the bewildered Darien to climb on the table, "Bree's right. I am better than this. I'm not going to lower myself to Darien's level. Instead, I'm going to do the more manly move." His heart was pounding. He was finally going to tell her, "Bree. I don't know if you feel the same way, but I just want you to know that I am in love with you. And I'm telling that to the whole school to prove it."

Bree gasped and smiled. She stepped up on the table beside him and grabbed his hands, "Not bad Connor. There's the man I've been waiting for to sweep me off of my feet." She laughed.

Darien scowled, "Bree, you should be with me instead. I'm so much better than this exuse of a boy. He can't even fight!"

"Not can't," Connor corrected him, "Won't."

Bree turned to Darien, "Sorry Darien. Connor beat you by a long-shot. You're a friend. He's-" She turned to face Connor, "The one. I can tell."

Connor gaped. She felt the same way! "Don't forget to breathe." Bree laughed quietly. Connor realized that he was frozen place for a good while. He smiled at her.

The students began to chant, "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" Darien glared at them, but that didn't stop them.

She looked at the students, "Well. Now that that's out of the way, why don't we give them what they're asking for?"

Connor's brows raised, "R-really? Y-You want to?"

Bree laughed and mocked him, "Y-yes." She rolled her eyes before grabbing his face between her hands and pulling his lips to hers.

Everyone began to cheer, whoop, and whistle.

Even with the pain in Connor's gut from the punch, today was definitely the happiest day of his life. That was, until he and Bree got married in the future. But he doesn't know that's going to happen for what he did today.

One move can change everything for the better.
