Wally stood there with beads of sweat running down his face and leaking onto his police uniform. He had no time to draw a breath, forced to hold in what little he had left. His hands trembled and he could hear his heart beating loud. This is something he did occasionally, so why was he so nervous and afraid? He thought to himself.
❝We can do this... ❞ Wally encouraged, looking beside him at a wheezing Chester.
"I-I'm scared man." Chester shuddered, reaching for the inhaler in his back pocket.
"No," Wally maintained, grabbing Chester's hand, "We fucked up the last mission by grabbing the wrong package- this is our chance to redeem ourselves."
"They're going to hunt us down and kill us if we mess this up again, man!" Chester fretted.
"...We've trained for this, Chunk." Wally assured him as Chester slowly nodded his head.
"...Y-You're right," Chester conceded, "We're C-C-Frickin'- P-D: People don't mess with us; we mess with them!"
"Haha, exactly." Wally concurred, patting Chester's back. The boys turn around, with Wally immediately slamming his hand on the counter- "Hi, two packs of the Always Maxi night pads and one pack of the Ultra-thin regular- Please and thank you." Wally smiled, lifting his hand away from the $20.00.
"...It's for the ladies at home." Chester added.
"Pretty sure she knows that..." Wally mumbled.
The cashier rolled her eyes, turning to reach for the items on the shelf behind her.
Wally looks around the bland store; from its leaking roof to its dusty floor accompanied by the smell of hospital disinfect, all the while Chester kept himself distracted by the Sunglasses display holder.
The girl returned, scanning the items as Wally watched awkwardly. Then the bell on the door of the shop went off as a little girl skipped in munching on the contents of a bag of Freeze-Dried Chicken Whizees.
"Eh, little girl?" Chester called out, getting her attention immediately, "There's a Cee-Whizee around here?"
"Yep, just behind this building," She answered, looking Chester up and down in awe, "Whoa... I've never seen your kind here before."
Chester's face forms an angry expression, causing Wally to side-eye the girl.
"The badge, stupid!" The little girl quickly corrected, gesturing to the badge on both their uniforms.
Chester nods as he calms down, Wally smiles.
"Fifty dollars." Wally's smile fades quickly as his eyes widen, the cashier shrugs.
He snatches the twenty-dollar bill from the counter, exchanging it for his debit card, and stuffs it back in his pocket- "They were cheaper last time."
"They were wrong last time." Chester chuckles as the cashier grabbed his card.
"Names' Lucy." The Little girl introduced, wiping her sticky and powdered fingers on her dress to stick her hand out.
Chester smiles, gently clutching her wrist and wagging it. She shrugged, reaching for what was left in the bag, "Harley! I want candy!" She whines, after realizing there's nothing left.
"Auntie Harley. And, no." The cashier stated, turning the countertop terminal in Wally's direction.
"So, your name's Harley?" Wally smirked over Lucy's repeated 'But I want it!' cries in the background, "Where's Morgan?" He added, pointing to the false name tag Harley wore as he proceeded to punch in his pin number.
"Dead."
Wally tensed up before looking up at her.
"Shootout. Wineberg street last Christmas; cops against the activists." Harley explains, putting the items in a bag, "Boss man was too lazy to get me my own tag, said I even look like her anyway."
"T-that's horrible." Wally sympathized, taking the bag.
"So, yew guys CCPD janitors or what?" Harley changed the subject, looking at their different style of uniform from the common one.
"More like, officers in training." Wally lied.
"Ha, of course yew weren't at the shootout, tubby here would've messed up the whole operation." Harley teased, pointing at Chester.
"I'll have you know, this is baby fat," He defended, patting his stomach, "Besides, ladies love the Dad-bod look."
"Yeah we dew." She winked, licking her teeth. "So, CCPD, eh? Freddy ring a bell?"
"Officer Chyre?" Wally wonders, with a raised brow.
Harley nods, leaning in to Wally from behind the desk, "Could yuh' tell him that his 'Happy pills' are in and that my case number was one-twenty last Thursday," She purred, biting her bottom lip, "Speeding, amirite?"
"It's really cool seeing police officers down here... Surprising, but cool" Lucy gushed.
"Why are y'all so shocked? Cops are stationed all over the city." Chester wonders.
"Uh-uh, not around here they aren't. We only see yew on special occasions," Harley says, forming a gun with her fingers and placing it in her mouth; re-enacting a gunshot then dangling her head back. "You're too entitled... Maybe around the corner at that Creep-joint you can find a couple of married Chiefs, but they're usually too tied up to help... get it, too tied-up?"
"Dang, that's sad as hell." Chester expressed, scratching the back of his head.
"Yew's two should probably leave, we kinda hate yew down here." Harley warned. Wally glanced out the window as thugs approached the store, furiously pointing and yelling at he and Chester, "...Don't look now."
Wally panicked and immediately felt for his gun in his duty belt. Chester's eyes widen when he looks back, realizing Wally doesn't have it.
"Listen, we were transferred here from Keystone." Wally explained as the men began to break glass bottles and pull out knives,
"Meaning?" Harley wondered, scrunching up her face.
"Meaning, we don't want trouble we didn't start." Wally huffed.
It took a short stare-down between the two before Harley sighed, pointing to a door that said 'Staff Only' "Beat it."
The boys ran for the door, "Yay! We're heroes!" Lucy exclaimed just as the men barged into the store.
Jogging down a couple of steps and out of a window that led to a Chinese restaurant in an alley, the boys were sure they were safe for now.
"YO! HUH PHOO, HUH PHOO!" Chester stopped, to catch his breath, "Why'd you tell her we were police officers in training?" He wondered, grabbing his inhaler.
Wally scanned the area and continued walking away, "Because 'Police Vehicle Technician' doesn't sound very sexy."
Chester took two puffs before coughing. Wally stopped and took off his shirt revealing a white t-shirt underneath as Chester walked up to him. He then kneels, stuffing the shirt into the plastic bag and reaches his hand out to Chester, "Babe, I suggest you do it too."
Chester rolls his eyes before taking off the light blue shirt and tossing it to Wally.
They walk casually towards Chester's car, hoping no one will recognize them, and enter the car swiftly.
Wally puts on his seatbelt and Chester starts the car.
"Rudy, where's the gun?" Chester asks calmly, with his hands gripped on the steering wheel.
"Lin, probably." Wally guesses, pulling down the visor.
"Chief only gave us one gun, and I only get it on weekends- it's not fair!" Chester complains, joining the highway.
"Well...I'm older." Wally shrugged.
"Fool, we're the same age! In fact, I'm older!" He corrects.
"Yeah, but I'm prettier." Wally smirks, turning his head in Chester's direction.
"I should knock your white ass-" Chester is interrupted by a phone buzzing.
Wally pulls out his phone to see who it is.
It was his mother, Mary.
"**Yeah? **" Wally sighs answering.
"****Wally, there's somebody trying to get in my room! ****" A frantic Mary explains.
Wally rolls his eyes, "**Mom, are you sure it's not Patty? Remember? Nurse Jenkins, Your good friend? **"
"****No, no, no, no, no, no, no, ****" She sobbed as he could hear Nurse Jenkins in the background enter the room and try to calm her down, "****Hurry Wally! She's shouting at mommy! ****" Mary cries out.
"**Mom, I'm not coming all the way to Gotham! **" Wally fumed, causing Chester to jolt back in his seat.
"****Why? DID THAT CONTROLLING SKANK TELL YOU NOT TO?! ****" Mary yelled.
"**Oh my gosh... **" Wally frets, pressing his palm on his face and leaning back in his seat.
"****She's there, isn't she? ****" Mary argues; "**** She wants me dead! They all want me dead! But you don't want me dead, because if you did, you would've let your father finish me years ago! ****"
"**Mom... **" Wally tries to calm her down,
"****Don't let people change you! You can't forget!!- >> Mrs West, please, it's time for your medication<< No! PLEASE! WALLY! ****" The line goes quiet as Wally covers his mouth tightly, fighting back tears.
Chester awkwardly looks at the road... "She good?"
Wally looks out of the window, stuffing his phone in his pocket, "Pull over."
A worried Chester turns and parks at the side of the road. Wally hops out of the car and jogs to the nearest bush. His body hurls his upper-body forward as barf spews out of his mouth. Chester looks to the side, shaking his head.
Wally spits into the bush. Grabbing the end of his t-shirt and wiping his mouth against it. He walks back to the car, coughing slightly to try and stabilize the pain in his, now, sore throat.
"Hey girl, you' feeling better?" Chester teases as Wally forces a smirk, closing the door behind him. Chester starts the car and opens the windows "Good cause' I didn't know whether you wanted me to come hold your hairline back or..."
"Shut up, man." Wally laughs.
Suddenly, something heavy falls on top of the car, causing Chester to swerve into a street pole.
"What the fuck?!" Chester yelled as Wally clutched his seat, wondering the same thing. The ceiling of the car was caved in.
They got out and the two cars that were behind them both stopped as the drivers got out to ask if they were alright.
They both looked at each other, and patted various parts of their body, eventually agreeing they were fine.
"Whoa..." One of the men spoke, pointing up at the car. Wally and Chester both looked up and there stood a teenage boy in a latex outfit...
"Wally,I need your help."
