Versus
Kaylee's POV
At Chen's palace, an Anacondrai Cultist is serving us our food.
"Next! Nu-uh. Nothing for you." The Cultist shakes his head at Sensei Garmadon.
"There's a valuable lesson here, son. If you turn your back on your first evil Sensei in an effort to go straight..." Garmadon starts.
"Next!"
"...you may not be served creamy biscuits."
"Well, I know what we are being served. A whole bunch of baloney. This isn't a fighting tournament. It's an alibi for Chen to steal everyone's powers. But we still don't know why." Lloyd huffs.
"Isn't it obvious? Chen wants to destroy New Ninjago City. I don't know what it is, but that place has had a string of bad luck." Kai says.
"I'm not so sure. From what Sensei G's told us about him, I have a feeling it's something far more sinister." Cole adds.
"And may I remind us, we still don't know where Zane is, which is why we all need to take care of our first rounds to give us more time. Don't look at me. I've already moved on." Jay snaps, and we look at him surprisingly, as he was wearing robes and fluffy slippers.
"Your opponent got himself kicked out." I snap, turning away from the counter. "You have my creamy biscuits Sensei Garmadon, I don't really like them." I use my magic to float them over to him.
"Thank you, Kaylee." He nods.
"Hehe, either way, it's my day off. Extra creamy biscuits. And don't skimp."
"Taking a day off? And here I thought Ninja never quit." Cole snarks.
"And I used to think a Ninja wouldn't steal your girlfriend." Jay snaps.
"Whatever you have to say to each other, say it now because harboring grudges hurts no one but yourselves" Garmadon orders.
"He's right. You should be preparing to fight your next opponent, not each other." Lloyd reasons.
"What grudge? I already dropped it." Cole retorts.
"I dropped it first." Jay snarls.
"Did not."
"Did too." They continue arguing, with Jay dropping his biscuits and drink.
"The tournament will test them, Lloyd. Either find a way for them to make peace, or neither of them will move on." Garmadon sighs.
Chen's voice sounds over an intercom. "The tournament of Elements continues. Fun time! Would the following Masters please make their way to their assigned arena? Speed, Gravity, Smoke, Nature, Mind, Light..." Chen starts.
"Huh, maybe we all got the day off," Jay comments.
"Fire, and Chaos and Order!" We both gasp. "Remember, only one can remain." We first spectate a match near a cherry blossom tree. "Turner, Master of Speed, versus Gravis, Master of Gravity. Fight!" The two make their way toward the Jadeblade. Griffen speeds toward the Jadeblade.
"What? Can't keep up? I'm over here. Can't catch me." Griffen snarks, but Gravis levitates some of the flowers from the tree. "This doesn't look good." The flowers are smashed on Griffen, and Gravis levitates the Jadeblade toward him, but Griffin grabs it.
"Yeah!" He cheers.
"Winner! Loser!" Chen opens a trapdoor, but Gravis laughs when he doesn't fall in. Chen drops a sandbag on him.
"Whoa. How many buttons does that man have?" Griffen asks.
"Master of Speed moves on." Neuro and Bolobo begin their match. "Neuro, Master of Mind, versus Bolobo, Master of Nature. Fight!" Neuro uses his mind powers on his opponent.
"They call this a fight?" Lloyd sighs.
"Wait for it," Garmadon says. Neuro manages to dodge Bolobo's vines."Never underestimate the power of the mind." Garmadon says.
Neuro gets trapped in Bolobo's vines. "I didn't see that coming!" He grunts.
"In Man vs. Nature, Nature usually wins." Lloyd snarks.
"Haha, says you." I chuckle. Neuro uses his Mind powers to give Bolobo a headache, freeing him and using another vine to climb the rock and grab the Jadeblade.
"Yeah!" He cheers.
"Winner! Loser!" Bolobo screams as he falls under a trapdoor. "Master of Mind moves on."
Kai and Ash's fight begins, on a teetering bridge over a volcano.
"Kai, Master of Fire, versus Ash, Master of Smoke. Fight!" The two drops the Jadeblade on a rock under them.
"Come on, Kai, you can do it," Lloyd mutters.
"Ninja, go!" He uses his Spinjitzu.
"Come on, Kai. Use your power." I sigh.
"Fire!" Kai breaks the bridge with his Fire. After a brief fight, Kai grabs the Jadeblade.
"Winner! Loser! Master of Fire moves on." Ash falls in a trapdoor.
I was now at my match against Paleman.
"Kaylee, Master of Chaos and Order, versus Paleman, Master of Light. Fight!" Paleman turns invisible, as I witch my eyesight to silver. I see him moving toward the top of the willow tree, where the Jadeblade laid. I use Spinjitzu, to knock him over, and we engage in a fight, in which the outside mind might think that I was punching thin air.
"Oof!" Paleman grunts, as he's hit into a rock, and turns visible. I quickly gather rocks on him, so he'd stay there. I fly up and grab the Jadeblade.
"Ha!" I grin, turning my eyesight back to normal.
"Winner! Loser! Master of Chaos and Order moves on." Palman falls in the hole made by the trap door. I return the Jadeblade to Chen and walk by the other guys.
"You had me worried there for a second Kaylee. I thought you were going to lose." Kai compliments, ruffling my hair.
"Well, not everyone can see an invisible person can they?" I snark as we approach the Elemental Masters, who are gathered around the bracket.
"What's all the commotion?" Jay asks, and we gasp when we see Cole and Jay on the same bracket.
"No, he can't do this." Cole gasps.
"He already did." Lloyd replies.
"We gotta fight each other."
"But why does it say I have to fight Cole? It didn't say that before. I'm not ready to fight. It was supposed to be my day off." Jay whines.
"I tried to warn you, but you never listen. Talk, yes. Listen, not so much." Cole snaps.
"Is there a problem, Ninja?" Clouse sneers.
"You cheated! You changed the brackets." Cole accuses.
"Oopsie." He laughs and walks away.
"What do we do? They can't fight each other. We came here to become whole, not fall further apart." I ask, mildly panicking.
"You can't undo what's been done. My only advice is to be at peace with it." Garmadon shakes his head.
"Peace? One of us has to lose! Oh, my gosh. It's totally gonna be me. He's got super strength and what do I have? Quick, tell me! What do I have!?" Jay shrieks.
"Don't listen to my dad. We find Zane, then none of us have to battle. Your fight isn't until tonight so we still have time to figure out what Chen's up to and stop this." Lloyd orders.
"I think I know just the person who can help. And I think he already knows." Kai says. At night, we go to see Neuro.
"We need your help, Neuro." Lloyd starts.
"You think I can get close to Chen to read his mind, so you can find your robotic friend and not have to fight." Neuro starts.
"Don't forget-" Kai adds.
"You still need to know what Chen's up to because he's hiding something." Neuro finishes.
"That's really impressive, Nerdo." Jay compliments.
"It's Neuro, Master of the Mind. And Cole thinks Jay won't last long in a fight." Neuro seethes.
"Pfft. You think that?" Jay snaps.
"You just said it yourself." Cole defends.
"But you didn't have to believe it." Jay laments.
"Don't be offended, Cole. Jay here thinks you're the least valuable Ninja." Neuro sneers.
"You don't say." Cole snarls, and they start pushing each other.
"We wanted you to help, Neuro, not make things worse." I snap.
"But why would I help? You're competition. The sooner you're out, the better for me." Neuro points out. Damnit you stupid mind-reader.
"If you want what's best for you, just look into my head and you'll see what this tournament is all about. It's only a matter of time before Chen steals your power too. So are you in?" Lloyd says. Neuro nods, and we start devising a plan. That night, Jay and Cole prepare for their fight. I and Sensei Garmadon sit on the bleachers, looking anxiously at the guys. Well, it was mostly me who was doing the worrying.
"So, any plans for grandkids yet?" Garmadon asks.
"What! I and Lloyd haven't even had you-know-what!" I sputter.
"What? I want to have grandchildren." Garmadon shrugs. The battle is about to start. Lloyd, Kai, and Neuro go back to the audience and sit next to us.
"You tried your best, the rest is up to them," Garmadon says.
"I hope they can see that too." Lloyd sighs.
"Let the tournament continue! Jay, Master of Lightning, versus Cole, Master of-" They start fighting.
"Haha! That's all you've got? Least valuable Ninja!" Jay mocks.
"Eat dirt, Blue-belle!" Cole cries. They battle each other, but after Cole overpowers him with his Earth powers, they stop fighting. They start to pretend fight, a tactic that Sensei Wu taught us long ago. Well, not that long ago.
"Release the Condrai Crushers!" Chen angrily yells. 4 vehicles rush in the arena.
"Ah, they fight together. Good work, son." Garmadon smiles, as Jay and Cole work together to defeat the Crushers.
"Yeah, I do listen to you every once in a while," Lloyd smirks.
"Enough! I know what you are trying to do. If neither of you will win, then both of you will lose!" Chen smashes buttons on his throne and activates the trap doors. We crane our necks nervously, seeing who would fall first. Cole takes the Blade but throws it to Jay.
"Winner!! Loser! Master of Lightning moves on." Chen declares, and Cole falls in a trapdoor.
"Cole may be gone, but he did not lose. Let what he did here today be a lesson for us all: know thine enemy, but more importantly, know thy friend. He fought like a true Ninja." Garmadon taught.
0-0 Why do I feel like Lloyd would radiate top daddy energy? I mean, with the way I've painted my character, Kaylee would probably be the bottom.
