The Invitation

Kaylee's POV

I and Lloyd were in a jungle, we attack a few Nindroids and enter a cave as a test, to see if we could get the golden armor.

"Ninja, go!" We both use Spinjitzu on the Nindroids. We fall into a hole, and Lloyd tries to reach the golden armor, but it disappears. The hologram disappears, and we untie ourselves from the rope.

"You got closer than I thought you would. But then again, I didn't think you'd be quite so rough on my security droids." Mr. Borg gestures to his security droids and beaten up and sparky.

"If we can't steal the Golden Armor, I'd be surprised if anyone else could. It's secure, but where is the real one?" I ask.

"Some secrets are best kept safe," Cyrus reveals.

"Lloyd, Kaylee, where are the other Ninja? I asked for all of you to take part in this test." Sensei asks.

"Uh, they, uh, they really wanted to be here, but they, uh...all had other plans." Lloyd lies. He's really bad at it.

"I understand perfectly well. The loss of Zane has affected us all. I haven't even heard word from my assistant P.I.X.A.L. since his memorial. It's heartbreaking." Cyrus sighs. I still haven't told them what really happened on that day.

"If we dwell too long on what's missing, we fail to see what can be gained. The absence of Zane will either tear you four apart or bring you closer together. The choice is yours." Sensei says.

"I'll do what I can, but it won't be easy." Lloyd helps.

"The greatest lessons never are." Sensei and Cyrus walk away.

"I have a concert, but then I'm stopping this music career. Reminds me too much of Zane." I sigh.

"How could music remind you of Zane?" Lloyd asks. "He has nothing to do with it."

"He was there when I first found my talent." I fiddle with my fingers.

"I'm sorry." Lloyd takes a hand and places it on my face. We lean in, and I savor the taste of candy again.

"You smell like vanilla." Lloyd murmurs, running a hand through my hair.

"I do? Huh, didn't notice." We lean in once more, before breaking apart.

"Chen's noodle shop, at 6?" I ask.

"Sure, butterfly." Lloyd nods.

"Butterfly?" I ask.

"Because you're a beautiful butterfly that descended upon my life." Lloyd leans in once more.

"Okay, Sir Green Bean." I laugh. "I have to go though I don't wanna be late."

"Aw, but baby." Lloyd whines.

"I mean, I could stay and disappoint people, but I don't wanna, baby." I tease.

"Fine." Lloyd huffs, and I leave.

"Bye Green Bean!"

~Time Skip~

I walk into Chen's noodle shop and sit down in a booth. I take my time to wipe off all of that makeup, although I was still in post-concert attire AKA: casual, but nice clothing.

Soon, Lloyd comes in, then Cole, then Jay. We sit in awkward silence before Kai comes in.

"Kai, back here." Lloyd waves.

"Jay? Cole?" Kai gasps.

"Ha, you too?" Cole scoffs.

"The runt tricked us all." Jay snaps.

"I organized this you imbeciles." I sigh. Kai sits down.

Lloyd stops Kai from taking food from the conveyor belt. "We talk first, then eat."

"Uh, trust me, do you know what kind of restraint I've had to have staring at all of this noodle goodness? You're late." Cole snaps.

"Make it quick," Kai says.

"I know without Zane things have been different, but we have to move on. The reason I brought you all here is because...maybe we should add someone new to our team." Lloyd starts. A new ninja? I stare at Lloyd in bewilderment. Why should we get a new ninja? Zane's irreplaceable!

"A new Ninja?" Kai yells.

"Are you crazy!?" Jay snaps.

"Come on, Zane's irreplaceable!" Cole sighs.

"I cared for him too but now it's time to care about this team." Lloyd reasons.

"Maybe without Zane, there is no team." Kai snaps. Lloyd looks at me for back up.

"I'm sorry Lloyd, but the guys are right," I say, and we fall in awkward silence. The door slams open, and thugs come in.

"Oh. Don't look now, but we've got trouble." Jay whispers. They force the Restaurant Owner to open the cash register and put him on the conveyor belt.

"All right, now they're our problem. Excuse me, it's not polite to touch someone else's food." Cole snaps.

"I'd listen if I were you. He's no fun to be around when he's hangry." They attack each other. "All right, I admit it. We make a good team."

"You mean great team," I comment.

Cole grabs the food Kai kicks off the conveyor belt. "Yeah, mmm. Everything's better on a full stomach." The thug that Cole was fighting shatters a plate. "Hey, I was gonna eat that." The two defeat the thugs easily.

"How can you walk away from this?" Lloyd sighs. They run away from the back door.

"Hey, let's get them, guys," Cole yells. We run to the back, but the thugs were gone.

"Oh, where did they go? Huh?" We see a table with a note and fortune cookies.

"What's this?" Lloyd asks.

"Uh..." We see a picture of Zane on the letter.

"It's Zane." Kai gasps.

"What does it say?" Cole asks as Lloyd takes the paper.

"It says he's alive." We gasp.

"I don't think those thugs were delivering a message to the Noodle House. I think they were delivering a message to us." Kai realizes. If Zane's alive, then that means... could both Zane and Pixal be alive?

"What do you mean it says he's alive?" Jay snaps.

"Hey, I'm just telling you what it says." Lloyd defends.

"Why would these thugs lead us here?" Kai questions.

"You know, this has to be some cruel joke. And I'm not laughing." Cole crosses his arms.

"Look." Lloyd points to 5 fortune cookies. "I think this was meant for us too."

"Fortune cookies? Very peculiar." Jay comments.

"Should we?" I ask but Cole eats one in one chomp.

"Uh, you do realize there's a fortune inside, right?" Kai asks.

"Oh, so that's why they're called that." Cole oh's.

Lloyd reads his fortune. "Listen to this. Master Chen has personally invited you to participate in his Tournament of Elements."

"Wait a minute. Are you saying that Mr. Chen, the same guy filling my belly with delicious goodness, is actually Master Chen?" Cole asks. I crack mine open.

"Secrecy is of the utmost importance," I say.

"Tell no one, or suffer the consequences." Kai finishes the sentence.

"If you ever want to see your friend again, meet on the pier at midnight and leave your weapons behind," Jay says, and our fortunes explode, and Cole belches.

"Uhh. At least I know I was invited." Everyone laughs.

"You don't think..." Lloyd starts.

"It could be a trap. A lie to lure us in." Kai says.

"Yeah, but what if it's not? What if Zane's alive?" Jay counters.

"The Tournament of Elements. I'm starting to think this Master Chen makes more than noodles." I say, starting at the altar.

"You can forget bringing in a new Ninja, Lloyd. Let's go see about an old one." Kai smiles.

We went our separate ways, promising to meet up at the docks. I had already finished packing, wearing my Techno gi, and I start to practice fighting. I don't know what this Tournament of Elements is, but it can't be good.

"Ah, Kaylee. Have you been practicing what I asked you?" Sensei asks. Shit. Sensei had told me I could bend the fabric of space and make anything I want to appear with just a snap. Sounds like that dragon dude Discord from My Little Pony. Don't ask.

"Yup! It's hard, but I think I got it!" I smile, fake cheerfulness etched on my face. Sensei nods and walks out of the room. I let out a sigh of relief, walk out, waiting for Lloyd. He walks out, and we soon arrive at the docks with other Elemental Masters.

"Ah, I told you we shouldn't have worn them. The Tournament of Elements. You think all of them have powers like us?" Kai wonders.

"When I asked my dad about it, he got really suspicious. Like there's something he's keeping from me." Lloyd adds.

"The fortune cookie said tell no one or else there'd be consequences." Jay reminds us.

"Relax, we're cool." A ferry pulls up. "We don't know yet if this is a trap. Wherever they take us, we have to stick together. We can't let anything distract us. You hear me, Kai?"

"Uh? Uh, yeah. Uh, got it. Whatever you said." Kai looks on. Everyone boards on one-by-one, until it was our turn.

"Master Chen will be charmed to see you've accepted his offer. A Master of Spinjitzu shall fare favorably in his Tournament." A man with purple robes, and an overall I'm evil vibe spoke.

"Hey, we're not here to fight. We're here to save a friend." Jay snaps.

"Don't be so petty, Master Jay." He grabs Jay's nunchucks. "Everyone here has something to fight for." Are you serious Jay?!?

"Chopsticks. I'm a big eater, heh." Jay gulps when he throws his nunchucks into the sea. We get on the ship, and Lloyd was the only one left until Garmadon came.

"Lloyd, wait! If you get on that boat, you may never return." He warns.

"What are you doing here, Dad?" Lloyd asks.

"Master Chen is a dangerous man who should never be trusted. Whatever he promised you, do not believe him." Garmadon says.

"Lord Garmadon. It's been a while. It's Sensei now, correct? I can't remember." The man sneers.

"Clouse. I see Master Chen still has you running his errands." Garmadon retorts.

"I have to go, Dad. This is about Zane. It's about family. If we're ever going to be whole again, I have to get on that ship." Lloyd says.

'Last call. Are you in, or out?" Clouse asks. Lloyd gets on the ship.

"I can't stop you, son, but I can join you." Garmadon moves to get on the ship.

"Sorry, no more room in the ship." Clouse stops him.

"No room?" Garmadon kicks a thug off the ship.

"I stand corrected. There's room now." Clouse comments.

"Don't worry, I'm not here to compete. Only to look out for my interests." Garmadon says.

"Let's ship out!" Clouse orders. We watch the other Elemental Masters display their powers.

"You know him. You said his name's Clouse." Lloyd says, pointing at Clouse.

"Don't be fooled by his attire. He is a Master of Dark Arts and Master Chen's number two." Garmadon whispers.

"Huh, I thought Master Chen's number two was an eggroll and fried rice." Cole comments.

"Why haven't you or Wu ever told us there are others with powers like us?" Kai asks.

"Because there are some things we don't want you to know. You were led to believe you were special, yet you never questioned where your powers came from." Garmadon starts.

"Uh, are you implying that I'm not special?" Jay cuts in.

"Everyone on this ship is a descendant of an original Elemental Master," I explain.

"Elemental Master? Who were they?" Lloyd asks.

"They were the First Spinjitzu Master's guardians, each endowed with an Elemental Power that has passed down through generations." Garmadon finishes.

"If that's true, then so is my sister Nya. But she can't do what I can." Kai says.

"Can't she? Power lies in all of you. It only needs to be awoken. The fighters here serve no master and have managed to unlock their own True Potential. For instance, that pale man. A distant relative to the Master of Light. Watch closely and you'll see how he's stayed hidden all these years." The Master of Light disappears. A brown-haired dude with red visor runs by. "Then there's Griffin Turner. Grandson to the Master of Speed."

"Hey, you can't lay a hand on me. I'm faster than fast. Swifter than swift." Griffen declares, doing a once over of the ship.

"Uh, Master of Speed? Pfft. That's not an Element." Jay scoffs.

"So asks the Master of Lightning." Garmadon retorts.

"Oh, snap, he got you there." Cole snickers.

"And, uh, who's she?" Kai looks at a girl with an orange hoodie on.

"I don't know. Most of these people I have not seen. But they will all be gunning for you. You are Ninja. You serve with honor. Here, that means very little." Garmadon explains.

Kai sees a man with metal gloves harassing the orange hoodie girl. "Well, maybe honor means something to me." He walks up to them.

"It's okay. I can handle myself." Orange hoodie girl says.

"This none of his business. Karlof cold. Karlof just want her cloak." Karlof says. He's got some bad grammar.

"You look like you got big enough mittens. Why not leave the gal alone?" Kai asks.

"These not mittens. These crush Ninja." Karlof growls.

"Ha, I'd like to see you try." Kai mocks.

"Save it for the Tournament, Kai." Garmadon orders, but his request fell on deaf ears.

"Don't think Karlof afraid of you," Karlof yells.

"No, you don't think much at all, do you?" Kai comments and Karlof lifts him. "Unh! Just jump in whenever you feel like it."

"You say Karlof not smart?" Karlof snaps.

"I'd say Karlof is plenty smart not to start something he can't finish." Lloyd jumps in.

"Nice going, Master Lloyd." I snicker, and Lloyd rolls his eyes. Karlof punches Kai.

"Whoa!"

"Oopsy. Guess Karlof not smart." Karlof says.

Garmadon stops us from intervening. "Kai started this. He can finish it." They both start fighting, but soon Clouse intervenes.

"Enough!" He snaps, and Karlof leaves.)

"I'm sorry if I was cold to you earlier." Orange Hoodie Girl helps him up.

"I swore to never return." Garmadon sighs, as we neared Chen's Island.

"You know, you should never swear. It's a sign of weak verbal skills." Jay adds.

"If Zane's on that island, we'll find him. We have to." I vow.

*cue epic music* yeah, if y'all like this story, I just start a new Harry Potter and Ninjago crossover with Kaylee in it if y'all want to check it out?
