Chapter One
It is April 10, and today the Titanic has been sailing on the Atlantic Ocean for a few hours.
The sound of the waves can be heard brushing against the cover of the ship, the breeze brushes against the face and refreshes every person on the boat.
On the top of the bridge was a man, Theo Raeken, of American origin, orphaned and poor. His luck hit once. He won the trip by betting in his POKER game. He was able to afford this dream trip on the Titanic. Always in the company of his most faithful friend Corey. All he wanted was to go home. In California.
Lying on an unoccupied bench on the ship, inhaling an umpteenth cigarette of the day, Theo looked at every star that lit up the sky. It was a beautiful sky. But still a cold night. He liked to watch the pretty sky and do nothing. Corey wasn't around for once. There was not a sound, only that of the waves, but soon replaced by hurried footsteps, a breathlessness at the same time. It sounds like..the wind blew hard like a tornado, what happened?
Theo got up immediately, and looked around, he hadn't had time to look at the noise and a shadow came straight ahead. He looked up. Probably another rich kid around the 3rd class, or someone in a state of drunkenness. People these day!
Little did Theo know that another young boy on the brink was heading for the other end of the liner, staring at the bottom of the sea for a few minutes. Thinking his life was no longer worth living, the young man in panic, and on the verge of disaster stepped over the thick, slippery, frozen railing. He was silently crying, then closed his eyes ready to throw himself into the icy waters of the sea. There was no alternative but to give himself a slow and painful death, or so he thought.
"Don't do it!" A voice sounded behind the young man hanging, ready to fall.
"Stay back. Leave me alone."
"No. Come on. Give me your hand and get back here." Theo took some steps forward.
"Don't. Just..Stay where you are." gasped the dark-haired young man as he leaned into the water and stared at the bottom of the sea ready to jump.
Theo reached over to throw his cigarette into the water, and nodded. "Okay. What do you want?"
The boy clinging to the boat's railing had his eyes darted to the blue water that was slapping hard against the beautiful liner, that he did not notice his interlocutor now behind him holding out his hand. "I want you to leave me alone. Go away."
"Nope" Theo said as he was taking off his shoes.
"What—what are you doing? Stay away. I'll let go."
"No, you won't."
"You don't know me. Don't pretend you are!"
"I mean. You would have done it already. Now, hold my hand before I jump with you." Theo smiled.
"No way. You distracted me, so now please just go away."
"Told you. I'll stand here all the night. So, stop being stubborn and just hold my hand. I'll pull you back." Theo is now losing patience but still waiting for the other man changing his mind.
The young guy is confused, and finally turned to accept the help he was being given, he sighed in frustration and his hand dropped from the metal bar to a soft, reassuring hand. He slowly pivoted on the spot, little by little move, helped by Theo. He lifted his head to look into the stranger man eyes. Both of their hearts missed a beat, once they looked at each other for a few seconds, breathless.
"Im Theo Raeken!" He introduced himself.
"And I'm Liam Dunbar..." Liam replied.
"Nice to meet you dumbass"
"It's Dunbar." Liam rolled his eyes, and smiled slightly at this. He tried to reach the other side of the boat and wrapped his arms around Theo's shoulders as his foot slipped on the cold, wet metal, his foot slipped from there. Liam panicked.
"Oh shit," Theo blurted out. He held Liam with both hands, pulling him back onto the surface. "Hold on!"
"Please! Help! Help-"
"I've got you!"
"Please...Theo, help!"
"Listen to me, I've got you. I won't let go." He promised.
Liam nodded as he closed his eyes, trusting him. Theo, awkwardly clutching Liam by whatever he can get a grip on as he flailed, got him over the railing.
They fall together. Liam arms around Theo's shoulder, still holding him. Theo on the top of Liam's body. Liam was shaking. Afraid and happy to be alive at the same time. They looked at each other for a minute.
For once in his life Liam felt good in the arms of Theo, a complete stranger. The man who saved his life. He felt good and different.
Unfortunately, they were suddenly separated from each other.
"Liam? Where have you been?" Questioned a black haired man, his face giving a disgusted and nasty expression toward Theo. "How dare you to touch my fiancé? The man asked to Theo. Theo looked confused and frowned.
"Gabe, please stop. It was an accident."
"Oh. An accident? Really?" Gabe face judge Liam, then Theo.
"Yep. I'm sorry, but Mr. Raeken is just someone who saves my life here. I was just curious and wanted to see the view and you know me, well, I ridiculous myself." Liam smiled shyly, and sighed, telling a fake story for his husband, and looked at Theo's eyes silently.
"Is it true Raeken?" Gabe asked.
Theo nodded. His hands crossed behind his back. Being polite in front of them. He stared at Gabe, wondering what's Liam could appreciated in this guy. Theo could say that Gabe insulted him with his eyes.
Then the man forced Liam to return to their room, while Theo stood still. Disturbed. His eyes riveted on the eighth wonder of the world who was moving away from him.
