4. the boy's a liar
[pilot part 1: season 1, episode 1]

Chaos. That was the only way to describe what was happening in front of the Waverider. In fact, that was the only word you could use to describe the entire mission (if you could even call it that). Failed bar fights, an angry knock-off stormtrooper, it felt like all Ivy and the team were actually doing was messing things up. Ivy peaked her head up from behind the car and watched as the metal-man shot at a large rock about fifteen feet away from the girl.
Ivy felt around on the ground, trying to find something that she could toss at the man. Like a rock, or a stick that would divert his attention away from Kendra. But her search turned up nothing.
"Aldus!" Kendra cried from behind the rock. "We'll get you out of here." Ivy pursed her lips, 'Rip must have got someone hurt. Of course, he did,' she thought to herself as she peaked her head above the rock once more. Ivy pushed her hands together, trying to get a strong enough blast to knock the man off of his feet. But, there were so many elements flying through the air, that she was unable to concentrate.
"Shit," Ivy cursed as she felt the heat of a lazar pass over her head. She narrowed her eyes, still trying to prove that she wasn't entirely useless, and Rip couldn't really blame her if she killed a man that was trying to kill them, it would just be self-defense. But Snart had beat her to it, knocking out the metal man with a strong blast from his cold gun.
"Better luck next time, Lin," Snart yelled.
Ivy scoffed, "This isn't some fucking competition, Snart!" she snapped, standing up from her spot behind the rock.
"Quickly," Rip yelled before Snart could shoot another snide comment toward the lawyer. "Back to the ship!" Ivy sighed as she sprinted back toward the ship. She wasn't sure who that injured man was, or why they were bringing him on board. But, Ivy knew that shit just got real.

'Our cloaking shield and aft entrance have been significantly compromised captain," Gideon said after the ship had stopped moving. The team thought it would be best if they time jumped away from the scene that had left in the 70s.
Rip groaned, apparently the metal man hand down a number on the ship. "Yes, I can see that Gideon," he said standing up quickly. "Station us in the temporal zone while I work on repairs."
Stein raised his eyebrow, "Temporal zone?" he asked quickly.
Rip nodded, "Yes, it's essentially a time limbo," he explained. "We can hide out there for a bit. Another temporal jump would risk revealing our position."
"A time limbo? Astonishing!" Stein exclaimed, looking like a kid who had just woken up on Christmas morning. Rip didn't look so amused.
"Oh, there's something you people don't know about time travel?" he said sarcastically "That's surprising, isn't it? Considering none of you have ever time traveled before. Bringing a family member from the past onto a time ship?" He gestured to Kendra and Carter. "Breaking out and carousing around the 1970s." He looked at Ivy, Sara, Snart, and Mick. "And no doubt you disobeyed my direct orders and used your powers," he added, staring directly at Ivy, who shrugged. "We've barely even begun, and this is the worst, unmitigated disaster of my career," Rip finished.
Kendra walked right up to Rip and slapped him across the face. "My son is hurt because of you!" she snapped.
'Son?' Ivy thought to herself. 'Must've been the man they brought on the ship.'
"Who attacked us!?" Kendra continued, her voice carrying throughout the interior of the ship.
Ivy watched as Rip fidgeted with the edge of his sleeve. "It's kind of a long story," he said slowly.
"Better tell it fast Rip," Snart said, eyeing Kendra carefully. "Cause it doesn't look like the lady's in a patient mood."
"Neither am I," Carter said crossing his arms over his chest.
Rip sighed, surveying the team quickly. "His name is Chronos," he explained, referring to the Metal Man that attacked them earlier. "He works for the Council of Time Masters. My former employers," he added in a voice so quiet that Ivy has to strain her ears to hear it.
Ivy and Sara exchanged angry looked before simultaneously jumping out of their chairs, and strolling toward the spot where Rip was standing. "I thought you were a time master?" Sara asked in a threatening tone.
"As I've expressed time is not a linear thing," Rip sighed, looking between the two angry women. "At some point, I was, in fact, a time master."
Sara raised her hand and smacked Rip right in the face. Rip stumbled backward, "Will you people stop hitting me?" he asked.
Ivy walked out from behind Sara and punched Rip in the jaw. "Sorry, Captain, but that's never going to happen," she replied her face scrunched up, scowling at Rip.
"Now start telling the truth!" Sara bellowed as Rip clutched onto the side of his jaw.
"I relinquished my position as a Time Master once I commandeered the Waverider," Rip said slowly. "Chronos was clearly sent to bring us in."
"You lied to us," Sara said disappointment lined in her face.
"You hypocritical, son of a bitch!" Ivy exclaimed wanting to punch him all over again. She could feel the anger bubble up inside of her as she clenched her fists. She wanted to kill the man in front of her. How dare he insult her when he was the one that was lying to them the whole time.
Rip rolled his eyes, "Of course, I lied to you," he answered. "I needed your help. You all barely said yes as it was."
"And what about the legends part?" Ray asked.
Rip's face paled. He didn't even need to answer Ray, they already knew by the look on his face. "Oooooh," Snart tutted. "You lied about that too, didn't you?"
"I chose you all because, a hundred years from now, your lives have minimal effect on the recorded timeline." Rip sighed, "I needed your help without disturbing the history of 2166."
Jax furrowed his brows, "So we're the opposite of Legends?" he asked.
"We're fucking losers," Ivy said through gritted teeth, glaring daggers at the man in front of her.
"Give me one reason why we shouldn't kill you right now," Mick said angrily. For once, Ivy found herself agreeing with him. She wanted to rip him limb from limb.
"Ditto the arsonist," Stein said, nodding toward Mick.
"Because Gideon wouldn't listen to your commands and you'd be stuck here forever," Rip replied.
Ray scoffed, "Great," he said, his words laced with sarcasm. "So we're not an elite team of heroes on a sanctioned mission, sent to rid the future of its most horrific bad guy. Just a collection of nobodies the time really doesn't give a damn about."
Rip shook his head. "I didn't lie about the mission itself," he said. "Or the brutality of Savage. Or me needing your help."
Ivy pursed her lips, "Then what did he do to you?" she questioned, crossing her arms over her chest.
Rip met the young woman's eyes. "I beg your pardon?" he responded.
Ray sighed, "I think what she's trying to say is that you don't seem like the person who would quit your job for altruistic reasons," he explained looking at Ivy for confirmation, she gave him a small nod. "So, what did Vandal Savage do to you?" he finished.
Rip paused for a moment, Ivy could tell he was hesitant about his answer. "The Time Masters discourage marriage. They urge against procreation even more. A Time Master should be free of any entanglements that might compromise him. But, I fell in love and we had a child. A boy. Jonas," he finished with a small sigh.
"Savage killed your family?" Ray asked.
Ivy raised her brow at the older man but decided not to say anything.
"He slaughtered my family," Rip said angrily. "And thousands of other families. And that body that I swore an oath to continued to turn a blind eye. I won't," he stated simply. "The last thing that my child saw in this world was that monster's face. You can be damn well sure when Savage dies, the last face he sees will be mine." Rip paused then walked around to the middle of the room where the 'control center' was. "I understand, given the circumstances, if you wish to return home. We can make the jump once the repairs are done, if and when Professor Boardman stabilizes."
"I think we need a little more time to consider our options," Stein answered for the rest of the group, as everyone walked out of the cortex.

Ivy found herself sitting in the middle of the storage room with Sara, Snart, Mick, and Ray. And in all honestly, she would much rather be alone than stuck in a room with these people, who wouldn't stop asking her questions. Well, it wasn't everyone, it was just Ray. He just didn't seem to get the hint and leave her alone. "What did Rip mean when he said you had powers?" he asked Ivy. "I thought you were just a lawyer?" he continued.
Ivy narrowed her eyes at Ray. "Why do you care?" she snapped.
"I care because you didn't tell us you were a meta," Ray continued, shooting the girl a confused glance. "Why?"
"Because I don't fucking know you," Ivy responded quickly. "You think I'm gonna air out my dirty laundry to a bunch of strangers? I don't need to know your shit, you don't need to know mine," she insisted.
Snart raised his brow at her, "That's the one thing you've said that I actually agreed with," he told Ivy, who groaned.
"Shut up," she said, banging her head against the metal wall.
Ray sighed, deciding to drop the conversation, and continued to polish the outside of his A.T.O.M. suit. Ivy rolled her eyes, looking back down at the crowd. She couldn't believe that she actually agreed to come on this stupid trip. Why did she decide that it was okay to leave her cushy job as a paralegal and travel through time with a bunch of strangers? Did she really hate her life so much that she needed to find some sense of adventure? That she would go along with some lie instead of facing the truth that of what she had done back in Central? In Avondale? What she was going through now couldn't be worse than her time in Avondale. But still, all Ivy could think about was the fact that Rip had lied to get them all there. Not the best way to build trust in a team.
A blast flew past Mick's head, "Watch it!" the man yelled, snapping Ivy out of her temporary trance.
"Sorry," Ray said continuing to mess with his atom suit. "Sorry," he sighed. "What's the point of us even giving this a second thought? Rip has already seen the future. He knows what's exactly in store for all of us, might as well have stayed dead cause the world doesn't need any of us. You're just a lost assassin," he said pointing at Sara. "You're just a pair of good-for-nothing criminals," he gestured at Snart and Mick. "And you won't even tell us who you really are," he finished, looking at Ivy. The woman grimaced but didn't respond to him.
"I can live with that," Snart replied.
"Well I can't," Ray stated, setting the glove of his A.T.O.M. suit to the side. "I can't live with someone putting a cap on my destiny. I spent my whole life working on becoming something greater, by coming something smaller. Then someone tells me being the Atom is as significant as an actual Atom."
Sara stood up and shook her head, "That's not what he said." Everything looked up from their laps and listened intensely. "Rip said that in his future that we're nobodies, but this mission is about changing the future. I mean, if we have the power to change the world, don't you think we have the power to change our own fate?"
Snart nodded, "For better or for worse."
Ray gave a small smile, "That's a good point."
Ivy stood up, suddenly filled with a burst of energy. "I may not know what's in store for all of us, but I do know one thing is true. Sara, you give one hell of an inspirational speech."
Sara shot her a smile, "Thanks, Ivy. Now let's tell Rip we haven't given up... yet." Ivy couldn't help but smile as she walked out of the tiny little storage room. At least she didn't have to go back to Avondale. Fuck Avondale.

"What do you think Gideon?" Rip asked tinkering with a power grid.
'I calculate a less than 6% likelihood that they decide to go on with the mission,' Gideon replied bluntly.
"I meant about the repairs Gideon," Rip responded annoyed.
'And there has been another unfortunate consequence of Chronos's attack,' Gideon said. 'Care to hear about it.?'
Rip sighed, "Not really," he said honestly.
Kendra walked into the room, Carter following closely behind her. "He's gone," Kendra said blinking. "Our son or, our son from our previous life. It's all so confusing."
Rip shook his head sadly, "I'm very sorry. It's all my fault."
"Actually you don't get the blame for this," Kendra said. "This was my fault. If I hadn't insisted on bringing him back here, he might have died peacefully. In his sleep maybe." She looked down at her feet.
"Don't torture yourself with recriminations," Rip said. "One of the great lessons of time travel is that many things cannot be changed. Time wants to happen. Chronos, even Vandal won't be the only enemy we face. Very often, it will be time itself." The whole team marched into the cortex as Rip had finished talking.
"Whether time wants to happen or not," Ray started as soon he walked in. "We're going to change time, erase Savage's future, and earn our rightful place in history."
Stein nodded, "Dr. Palmer is correct," Stein added. "We may not be legends in your time, Captain, but we are going to decide our own fates."
"I don't give a damn about being a legend," Carter stated truthfully. "As long as we end Savage once and for all."
"I could get down with that," Jax agreed.
"I couldn't have said it better myself," Ivy said, walking up to Sara and placing a hand on her shoulder.
Stein glanced over at Mick and Snart. "And our malcontents?" he asked.
"I like killing people," Mick grunted.
"We're in, for now," Snart said, leaning against the inner wall of the cortex.
Sara tilted her head, "So, how do we find this guy?" she asked casually.
"Professor Boardman has a theory about that," Rip said excitedly. "I already had Gideon plot a course."
The team sat down in their seats. Ivy couldn't help but smile to herself, 'Here's to being Legends,' she thought as the ship took off into time and space.
I don't dress for villains, or for innocence
I'm on my vigilante shit *ೃ༄
Grace talks ig: this is kinda short, but like we're finally done with the first episode (it only took four fucking chapters). But if I wrote it all in one chapter, it would be like 30 pages long, and splitting it up makes it more digestible in my opinion. Anyways, I'm trying to build up hype for the whole Avondale storyline because it's actually super important and explains a lot about Ivy's past and why she can't control her powers. Also, I know she and Ray have a little feud, and I think that is absolutely hilarious because they eventually grow on each other, but their little squabbles are just so funny that I have to write it. Okay, I hope you enjoyed this chapter (vote and comment if you want too) and I'll see you when i update next!!! BYE <333
