effects of testosterone

Hello, so here I am, in this chapter I'll talk to you about the effect of testosterone one the body, in a FtM/FtX transition (on AFAB bodies so). I'll remember you that not all trans people go on hormones, and that's perfectly okay. This is not an obligatory thing to do to make you valid, and if you don't feel the need to be on T and are satisfied with only a social transition (change of pronoums for exemple), it is perfectly okay and doesn't make you any less trans.

Just so you know, every bodies are different. Depending on your genetics, your weight and height, there will be different effects, on different levels. It really depends on the person. However, most of the effects are similar to everyone, so this still work.

I can't really do a month by month evolution, since it really is different for some effects, for exemple, some people will get a deeper voice one the first month, some other will have to wait 6 months. This is more like: What is going to happen.

First of all, let's make a little explanations of signs:

✅reversible change (if you stop T, these effects will most probably go away)

❌irreversible change (if you stop T, these effects will remain)

It is not rare that people take T for sometimes to gain some effects, and stop later, for health or just because, let's be honest, taking T every day or every month (depending on how you take it) is kind of annoying.

VOICE: On testosterone, your vocal cords will thicken, as in a true guy puberty. Your voice will broke, and deepen a lot. It can happen really early, or more late. Physically, it can hurt a little. Just like when you get a cold. Sometimes, your voice will be tired, you could also just can't talk in the end of the day. But this is temporary of course. Your voice will broke like a teenage boy, it can be pretty funny for people around you. Some rare people don't even get that change. It is rare, but this happen. If this ever happen to you and you want a deep voice, orthophonists can help you control and deepen your voice. So like, if you want a voice as deep as Benedict Cumberbacth's, you can train. It is possible yes.

SKIN: Bad news people: Your skin will get greasier, and you probably will have tons of acnea. After all, this is a second puberty. But don't worry, if you take good care of it, it will get better. In the worst case, there are specialist of the skin that can help. Anyway, most of the time, your body gets accoutumed to T and the skin gets a little easier. If you go throught that, wash your face often, take care of your skin. When you feel more like yourself, it gets easier to take care of you, because your goals are basically one acena away.

BONES: If you are under the end of your growth, so around 18-25, your bone structure can change. Your jawline can get more defined, as much as your hands and feet can grow bigger. Most of the time, past this age, bones are wel defined and T can change very little to it. Usually, you can't really feel it. But you'll soon realise your shoes become too small...

DICKLIT: ha ha, one of the least talked change on T I think. I was kind of shocked at first, but.. Yeah, it's gonna be okay buddy. Basically, it is one of the first effect, your genitals will change. You won't grow a penis, but your clitoris will grow, and it usually look like a micropenis. It's better than nothing. Some people apply something to make it grow, and some people who grow a rather big one can stand to pee. It is apparently itchy and kind of painful at first (as well as horny inducing) but basically, it is like when your teeth grow as a baby, it hurts when it grow but when it's over, you don't feel it. Again, some people don't get one, it depends. You can act in favor to have one, with a lotion I think it was, to make it grow a little.

BREAST: Your chest area will be reduced by T. If you have a little chest already, you could win a free flat chest. In anyway, you'll loose one size or two, so maybe prepare for a new binder that fits you better.

GROWTH SPURT: Again, this depends of your age: The younger you are, the better it is basically. I'll say that the ultimate limit is around 18-25 years old. But yeah, you can have a grow spurt, it can help a lot. You can also be more tall by yourself, there are excercices to do so. Just jump a lot, put your arms up, all of this.

MUSCULAR MASS: On Testosterone, you will grow muscle: This is not magical, you won't be a full bodybulder with no effort. But it becomes easier to do sports. You will realize you are stronger, kind of like when a superhero gets his power you know, you don't realize your own strenght. If you want abs, it is the moment to think about it, you'll have more energy, and will be stronger.

WEIGHT/FAT REPARTITION: The fat in your body will be distribued in a male shema. For exemple, you'll loose fat on your hips, legs, chest area... It will go in your belly and arms. But since you gin muscle, it doesn't seem weird. Doing sport help it go faster I heard. Just to say, you'll loose some hips, but it is also a bone structure. So it won't be all magicaly gone, and that's okay.

HORNY: Yes. There's no way you don't get extra horny on T. Simply because this is a second puberty, and most of the time, teenage boy are very horny, that's a result of testosterone. You won't become an animal that can't control himself, let's be clear. But maybe you'll have more dirty thought, and will need more time (alone or with other)in the bedroom. Most of the time, this effect slow a little after some times, but anyway, you'll get habitued. So yeah, most of the time, your libido will be much much more important. But, just so you know, some people don't get that change. Some others in more rare case get the reverse effect, their libido is lower, less important on T.

HUNGRY: If you have a brother, you maybe saw how much a teenage guy can eat in a day. Well, you too, on T, will eat like five persons. Testosterone makes you hungry, because of all the changes in you, you'll need energy, to grow and all. This doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to what you eat and how many: Keep a healthy alimentation and everything should be fine. Anyway if you do sport or just are on T (for some), it will go in your muscular mass.

LESS SENSITIVE: A lot of people reported feeling less sensible on T. Not that you'll don't feel emotions or anything. Just, sometimes you'll be unable to cry. It is more difficult when you are onT. Yes, you can still cry a lot and be sensible, but less than before. For the moment I can cry because a duc is cute, so I'm kind of curious of the result you know. Anyway, it won't change who you are deep inside. You won't be magically a man that is just in masculine interests and all, T doesn't change your mental. This is a physiological change.

✅IMMUNE SYSTEM: Your immune system will become weaker. I don't even remember why, but T weaken your immune system, that's all. So, be more careful, drink a lot of orange juice, it'll help.

PERIOD: Yes, your period will normaly stop. It can be after one month, or after one year. But this change can be lived differently depending on the person. Maybe it will stop directly, without any effects. But for others, periods will be ery irregular, so be prepared to this eventuality. Always keep a spare pad or tampon or whatever you use, you'll avoid awkward moments. Some will get really bad cramps, because after all, this is stopping an organ to function. If it really hurts, don't hesitate to speak about this to a doctor, really, it could be dangerous.

HAIR: I'm talking about hairs and hair. You only have one word for the two in english so it is kind of confusing. Anyway, you will have more hairs on your body. On your chest, your belly, your legs, but also your ass. Yeah, not so glamorous I know. But you know that if you don't like it, you can still shave it. On the side of your hair (like the one on your head, you follow me?) it will get more dense, and will grow more easily. So it is cool. But, as you get older, the risk of baldness are here, depending of your genetics and male ancestors. But when you are trans, you can do what's called a pro gamer move, and just temporaly stop T and watch your hair grow again.

AFTER T (or just after/during transition), your sexuality may change. Some people realize who and what they really love as they become more confident with themself. It can happen. Anyway, it is normal. It also happen that it doesn't change. But if this happens, there are no problems, no need to be confused. Just listen to your heart (and your mind a little, but rather your heart).

THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF TESTOSTERONE

You can take testosterone by a lot of way. Of course, there are injections, but not only.

INJECTIONS: the most known way to take testosterone are injection. Most of the time, you get your first one to be done by a nurse, that'll show you how to do it. The first time is a lot of the time, on your ass: It is there there is the most of fat, so it doesn't hurt. Some people never do it themselves, and always go to a nurse (at home or in a pharmacy). Some others start alone, and they can do their injections in their leg or in the belly. Most of the time, injections are reported to be the most efficient way to take T. I think this is every month or two weeks a month. Your dose of T also depends of you and your result at the blood test.

GEL: If you are scared of needles, you can take testosterone on the form of a gel. But this has some inconvenient: You'll have to put it on your skin everyday. Anywhere you want, but just know, it work better where you applied it. So careful, if you put it on your shoulders, you'll probably have hairs here. Also, you should not touch everybody until it is well incorporated in your skin, or either you'll get some on other people. But still, this works. The changes can be a little more slow to arrive, but this is a good way to take T if you are scared of needle or c=just want it to feel normal, like you put on some lotion.

PILLS: You can also swallow pills, I don't remember how many time a month. Maybe every day or twice a day. It is more hard to find information on pills, because it is less useful: It doesn't really stop period correctly, so most of the time, it isn't taken as an option. But still, if you are more comfortable taking T this way, it is possible.

RISKS

Of course there are some risks. Like in everything, like in life in general. This shouldn't stop you if that's what makes you feel you, and alive.

HEART: Your heart will beat faster. This is time to be careful on your alimentation (sodium and sugar) and maybe start cardio. It can help. Of course, the risks are the same as a cis man, but if you can avoid any problems, it is better.

SHORTER LIFE: Again, just like cis men. It doesn't mean that you'll die age 25. But you'll most probably loose some years, around 5 or 10 years of life. (except if you stop T after gaining irreversible effects). You can live until 80 years old, or more or less, depending on your way of living. cis Men live less long than cis women, so that's it. But this shouldn't worry you, you'll have the same life probability as a cis guy, and if you want to live longer, just stop T after you have all the effect that interest you.

So yeah, here it is. It was a rather long chapter, tell me if I forgot something.

Take care of you.
