Hey guys! Let's talk about the first type of shoe you'll be using. These are called Ghillies, but they can also be called soft shoes.

All beginners start off in Ghillies. These are girls' Ghillies. Boy's soft shoes look like this:

These are not called Ghillies. They're boys' Reel shoes.

The Reel shoes tie like your typical shoes. Ghillies are a bit more complex.

There are several ways to tie Ghillies. To tie these shoes, you lace them up criss-cross, then you tie the excess lace around the ankle, tying in the front or back of the ankle. If you tie on the back, make sure you tie it on the Achilles tendon, making the lace short enough so you don't step on it.  The second way to tie the shoe is to wrap around the arch of the foot until you have just enough lace to tie a bow on the top of the shoe.
