ஓ๑Advice: For Teen Writers

So the video above mostly contains advice for teen writers who are going to pursue writing as their carrier in the future, but nonetheless is an advice for teen writers in general. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Jenna Moreci. Warning: video contains little cursing.
The video is from 2017, by the way.

Now if you don't find anything from the video that may apply to you and you're simply just enjoying writing in Wattpad then here are my personal advice that I can give for you:

1. Trends
It's an advantage to be aware of the trends and it can push you to make a story according to what's getting popular. Trends will also help you know what a lot of people like to read these days but beware that not all trends can be your strength or the kind of thing you are best in writing.

Example like maybe: popular and recent anime where people make fanfics about or fanfics about current popular boybands like BTS (in the past, it was EXO)

Or maybe stories about the end of the world, mental health, or teen romance stories.

Other times, if there's a horrible trend of crappy stories being written, then please stay away from those. You know better than them. Right?

However, you are not required to go along with a trend: You have the creativity, you can also use this opportunity to do something different that distinguishes your work from the rest and at the same time, interesting and unique. If it becomes interesting enough that it rises above the trend, congratulations.

Also, not all trends are good.

2. Comparing
Don't compare your work to others to see which one is better.

Everybody has their own speed and ways in improving themselves and learning to make good works of art and literature.

Don't be harsh to yourself by comparing your work to others because it might disappoint you or make you become full of yourself if you're comparing expecting to see works worse than yours.

It's okay to look at other people's work for you to learn something or see an example from but comparing your book to another author's just to see who's better is not going to make you a better author.

3. Your first story is probably (*cough* definitely) going to suck
Nobody gets it perfect the first time they publish their story or even write their first drafts. But that's okay!

Don't give up on your first try. Write again!

My first story was trash and I cringe when I went back to read it now that I'm older. I was twelve that time and I didn't care about technicalities yet because I enjoy to just write whatever ideas and scenes that pops out of my head and I'm just excited to write it.

Even if it was a complete mess, I enjoyed writing and it became a hobby so I continued until I improved.

4. You'll grow out of it
As what the elders tell us, you're young and so you will learn as you grow.

You will make mistakes in your writing journey and you will be making cringy stories with plot holes. But all that are going to be things to learn from.

Just don't make the same mistakes either they are your mistakes, or other people's.

5. Is it a hobby or a passion? Is it serious business or just something you enjoy doing?
We have Wattpad, Quotev, and websites I may not know, to share our stories. And many teenagers love to linger around these places when they've got ideas to share.

Writing a story for people to read is always an interesting and fun journey but there are some people who write then gets tired of it.

People who write because it's their passion and they want it as a carrier so they're practicing.

People who write to be popular and maybe earn cash regardless of content.

People who write because they want to inspire people.

People who write to put their creativity and ideas on paper that will soon be known to people.

People who write because they're bored and will most likely produce trash stories.

But why do you write? I'll leave you to think about that. Whatever your reason is, let it be that it will serve you well and maybe serve others well too.

Hope this helped!
