I'll try to stay calm during the writing of this part XD

Now why do we follow here in Wattpad? It can be the same reason as instagram, facebook, Youtube, or Twitter.

Because you want be updated with the person owning the profile or page. You follow because you liked their stuff and you want to see more of them.

You follow because they belong to the fandom you're in or you have similar interests like photography or art or music or celebrities. It can be anything.

Here in Wattpad. Followers represent your supporters as an author. AN AUTHOR.

But since it isn't strictly implemented that you are to follow solely for the sake of literature, then follows can mean different things here now. It has become like instagram, twitter or facebook.

Many follow because they want to be friends too. No problem, no harm.

They follow because maybe your profile caught their attention that it's interesting enough for them to hit that button and would like to have their Wattpad journey with you.

So what's my issue?

Follow and Unfollow kinds of people. Plus some pointless and toxic profiles that are well off closed.

It not only pisses me off sometimes, it also makes me wonder why the hell are they even on Wattpad when they can linger in insta or twitter where you can chat with various people and post the most random things. There are many online platforms to post things and recently, I've discovered that Wattpad is also used for those other things besides stories.

Basically, they're making Wattpad similar to how they use twitter or insta that because it's so easy to do it, they even make the world know about the things that are not really necessary to know. Or they would post pointless announcements on their message boards that sometimes, the messages are encouraging sexual comments or violence, or some attitude.

Not cool.

As long as it doesn't harm anybody of course, then do what you want with your message board if your Wattpad profile is not used for sharing your stories. You and your wattpad friends or 'wp family' can have fun, no problem with that.

My concern however, are those who use Wattpad to be rude, to spread hate, stalk people and bother them like its twitter or facebook. Okay, people will tell me that I can't do anything about that anyway, but I can only remind people and then it would be up to them if they'll take it. If you're being bothered by a rude and hateful person here, mute the damn profile.

It's better to consider reminders to address a concerning behavior. A dangerous and rude one at that.

And then we have the unfollowers.

Okay, it's your choice to follow and unfollow for whatever valid reason you have, it's understandable.

But to those who follow and unfollow just for fun or because the profile you followed didn't follow back, well....... That's mean.

I'd like to recommend reading 'Writing Tips' by SNLangford, I added her book in my reading list so check it out if you like. She also discussed the issue about unfollowers in one of her chapters, it's not that hard to find.

Now back to the purpose of Wattpad. Originally, it's a platform for authors and readers to share and read stories, discovering the different and vast world of imagination. You have your favorite genres, you can share your artworks, you've got a lot of tag books that are fun to read, aesthetics, meme shops. Now, it's used for things outside that. Some of them are okay, like creating profiles here to make friends and all that but many are also stressfull and toxic that you might want to throw yourself out the window.

So, what I'm against here are those who uses Wattpad inapproriately, like I mentioned, spreading hate, bothering people, oh! And even psychopaths can linger around here so be careful.

Just kidding. So far, I haven't encountered psychopaths, only haters who seem to be psychologically problematic.
