Chapter 8:News
Snow fell outside the window. Draping the once green grass in a blanket of white. Luckily we were inside, so the cold couldn't get to us. Luna's wedding is being held in a large and vintage mansion. The people who own it rent it out for parties and weddings. She hasn't come put of her room yet and Magnus is with her doing her hair and makeup. I'm happy for her. Darren and his best man and parabatai Chris make their way towards the altar. She wasn't kidding when she said his hair was blue. I've only seen him a couple of times, and those times his hair must've faded because it was brown.
They take their places at the altar along with the priest. I was talking with Isabelle when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Magnus was behind me with his blue eye liner and glitter. "I need some help here." Worry creased his face.
"What happened?"
"Luna doesn't want to come out of her room. She's freaking out and Julie is busy. I thought you'd help."
"I'll go. You stay here, and I'll make sure she comes." He nodded and sat at his seat. Luna's room was on the second floor, but I didn't know which room. When I passed a door with the sign that said "Bride's Room" over it, I knew I found it. I knocked on the door twice. No answer. It was open, so I walked in.
Luna was sitting at her vanity table dabbing her eyes with a tissues. "Those better be happy tears. You can't cry at your own wedding." She looked at my reflection on the mirror and smiled. Magnus did a good job on her makeup and hair. Her long brown hair was tied up into a bun in the back with braids on it, and it was where her veil rested. Her dress was a long mermaids gown with diamonds and lace, with a small train. Her makeup was simple. Shiny gray and silver eyeshadow, black eye liner, her eyelashes looked longer, and red lipstick that popped. I knew all of this because you learn things when you marathon wedding shows with Magnus. "What are you doing stuck in here when the wedding is out there?"
"By the Angel Alec. I'm so nervous. There are so many people out there and they'll all be focused on me. It's nerve wracking." She started to dab at her makeup again before I sat down next to her.
"I know how you feel. On my wedding day I was so nervous. I'm not used to attention and I didn't want it." But I wasn't recovering from anxiety like her. As much as everyone wants to believe it, it never went away from her. It just got less serious. "Walking down the aisle was a pain. All of the eyes on me, but once I reach the end and looked into Magnus' eyes, nothing else mattered. It was only about Magnus. You love Darren right?"
"Oh course. If I didn't why would I be marrying him?" I raised an eyebrow at her. Remembering the situation a few years ago. We all let it go and forgave each other, but it was a joking topic. "Right. That was different."
"I know, but if you love him, once you see how happy he is, you'll only see him. I saw him out there and he had a grin the size of this mansion on."
"Really?" she asked in disbelief.
"Yes. So, are you ready now?" She swallowed and checked herself in the mirror again.
"Yeah. I-I think so."
"Who will be walking you down the aisle?"
"Julie."
"I'll go get her then. Just don't trip down the aisle. That'll be embarrassing for everyone." She pushed my shoulder and kept messing with her dress, shoes, makeup, and anything else. "Stop. You look beautiful. Darren will think so too." She stopped and smiled lightly.
"Thanks to your husband I do. His makeup and blue tux look so good he had to do my makeup."
"He's had centuries of practice. Of course it'll be perfect." As soon as I opened the door Julie stepped in wearing a long purple dress.
"Sorry Luna. I was busy making sure everyone was here. Are you ready?" she said a little out of breath. It looks like Magnus did her makeup too. Silver eyeshadow and pink lipstick. She didn't notice me until I tried to leave. "Alec, what are you doing here?"
"I was helping her get ready." I smiled innocently and stepped out. "Good luck," was the last thing I said before I left.

"Did it go well?" Magnus asked me when I got back.
"Yeah. She'll be out any second now." Within minute the doors opened and Luna stepped in with her arm hooked around Julie's. She tried to keep her head up but her smile was a bit forced. But like I told her, nothing else mattered when she reached the end of the aisle. He smile became real and she relaxed.
She poured her heart out during her vows and cried during Darren's. When she said I do she looked so happy.

The reception was being held in a large ballroom in the same mansion. Luna was dancing with Darren most of the night and talking with people. She was so glad it was all over, and she was finally married. Magnus and I were just seated with Isabelle and Simon. Magnus asked me to dance many times but I always refused. We were having a conversation with Isabelle, but then Magnus's phone rang. Magnus took me somewhere else with him. "Alec sweetie. Abigail is calling," Magnus told me over the loud music. We got up and left the others to a quieter place. When we made it outside, Magnus picked it up and said hello. "Is this Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood?"
"Yes," Magnus answered. The voice did not belong to Abigail. It was a man clearly. "Who's calling?"
"This is Abigail's doctor. She told me to call you two. She went into premature labor and the baby was lost. I'm sorry. There's nothing we can do to help her baby." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Our child. The child that we would care for a raise. Died. I couldn't hear what Magnus said next because everything seemed to stop in that moment. "Alec? Alec?" Magnus put his hands on my shoulders. "You've gone completely pale. Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Why shouldn't I be?" I lied. It felt like my heart was being crushed.
"You're not okay."
"I know I'm not." I leaned up against the wall and rested my head on it. Tears started to fall down my cheeks, and the cold weather didn't make it any better. Eventually I just sat down until I cried myself out. Magnus held me close to him the entire time, and he was crying too. "It's okay, Alec. We can try to find someone again."
"I don't think I want to for a while. Can we just stop for now?"
"That's okay, sweetie. If that's what you want."
"It's what I want for now." We kind of just sat there for a while. Processing what happened. We'll have to visit her to see if she's doing alright, but I'm not sure if we'll stay in contact. "I'm going to get a drink," I told him. "Do you want one?"
"No. Don't go get a drink. Just stay here with me. You don't need a drink."
"I'm hurting. I'm going to get a drink."
"No you're not," the voice wasn't Magnus. It was Luna. She must've been looking for us. "What are you two doing out here? It freezing."
"Hurting and dying on the inside."
"What?" I tried to explain but I kept choking up.
"The woman who was going to give us her child lost her. She went into premature labor and she couldn't make it," Magnus answered.
"Oh. I'm so sorry. I'm sure Julie would live up to her offer."
"She doesn't need to. We're done for now."
"Oh." I thought she would get up and leave, but she actually sat down on the floor with us.
"What are you doing? You'll ruin your dress!" Magnus exclaimed.
"I'm sitting here to comfort a friend. I'm never going to wear this dress again anyways, and what's a little bit of dirt?"
"You don't have to. Go back inside and be with your husband, while I'm with mine," I mumbled.
"I'll only go inside if you two come back with me. There will be no sad faces at my wedding."
"Fine fine. Let's go inside, Mags." I was still sad that Abigail lost her baby, but I'll just have to move on.
If any of you caught my Glee reference let me know.
