Chapter 18: A Peaceful Sleep, For Once

"Magnus, Are you sure that this is where she is? We can't waste another second. Each second that passes something else might happen to Maddi." I asked my husband. With Maddi missing and Aversa

"I'm pretty sure. It all ties together." After checking the mundane news, we noticed that some people went missing. Their bodies were soon found in the same area each time. Right next to an old abandoned factory. Every time the mundane police went to see inside, there was nothing. Oh course they wouldn't know if there was a Warlock in an abandoned factory. Even if she did, I don't doubt for a second that she would kill them also. Or use them for her own cause. If she will preform illegal and probably painful black magic on a child, then she'll gladly take some mundane policemen for her own needs or kill them. Magnus briefly went there to scan it, and he said he felt very strong demon energy and magic. It must be swarmed.

After our run in with Aversa we started looking for her. It was the beginning of our plan. First we had to find to find out here she was. Now that we have an idea of where she can be hiding, the next part comes into action. We will go there, with others for help, of course. Then we will look for her. She's not stupid to have no protection, so we'll have to fight whatever it is off. After that we look for Aversa, I kill her, and we get our daughter back. There's obviously some holes in the plan, like if she's not there or if Maddi isn't there. But more than likely Aversa has kept Maddi with her. So we'll get her back hopefully.

Aversa said that Maddi is in a "safe place" so she is probably keeping her in a different room than herself. Before I end her life we will get the information on where Maddi is, then swiftly end her life so we can get Maddi back.

I'm a bit nervous since I'm left with the kill. I want to make sure that the woman who took my daughter is killed, but what if she fights back and something happens? What if I lose my footing? She's old. Older than Magnus. She's powerful. She also seems to be skilled in many types of magic. I'm just praying to the Angel that I do this right and don't screw it up.

"I can't be wrong, Alec. Did you forget who I am?" He had a half smile on. He was joking around but there were bags under is eyes and he was living purely off of coffee now.

"Sometimes I do. Who do you want to bring with us? We're going to need some help."

"Your siblings. Even Blondie. While annoying, he's still a very good Shadowhunter. Sherman, we'll need all the help we can get. Clarissa is pregnant so that's a no."

"What about Warlocks? What if one of us gets hurt?" Every injury can slow us down, and in the heat of a battle there's no time to apply runes. A Warlock will be a big help.

"I've already gotten that figured out. Catarina had two friends who were also great at healing. Who needs one Warlock when you can have two?"

"Can you call them. It'd be a great help."

"I will. We need to ask your siblings, though. Should we go to the Institute or call them too?"

"I think we should go to the Institute. The plan would be easier to explain to them. Jace should be there with Isabelle helping him out." Isabelle is always at the Institute because she became head and moved in with Simon. They soon got married. Isabelle had me walk her down the aisle. It was an emotional moment for everyone. My little sister was getting married to a man who was actually good to her. Isabelle was excited that she was getting married. She wouldn't stop bragging about it, but she had the rights to. Getting married is both a terrifying and wonderful thing. They're happy and I have no doubts that they won't stay that way.

"We should get there then."

"We should."

"Let's go my blue-eyed Prince." He took my hand and led me onto the streets. "Our fairytale has to be the strangest yet. A Prince like you marrying a crazy Warlock like me."

"It might be strange, but it's ours. And that's what makes it special." He leaned down and pecked me on the lips. "Plus, who ever said we were in a fairytale?" He shrugged his shoulders.

"I thought that it'd be a nice thing to say."

"You're always so nice to me."

"Yes but sometimes I need to say something nice again. Just to reassure you of how great I am."

"I know." It nice that we can have moments like this. In such a stressful time we need a small distraction.

We took a cab to the Institute, and walked in. "Isabelle!" I called out. It was silent, except for the occasional meow from Church.

"I'm here!" she yelled back. She came running down the stairs. "I'm here. What's up?"

"We have a favor to ask you. Is Jace here?"

"He's in the training room. Does the favor involve anything illegal? If it does, then I'm in."

"Not exactly illegal." Not exactly. We're just going to go kill Magnus's sister so that we can get our daughter back. Not exactly illegal when you take into consideration that she's insane.

"I'm in. Let me go get Jace." She went back up the stairs in the direction of the training room. Hopefully he agrees and joins us. He might not though. With Clary pregnant he probably doesn't want to be put in life threatening situations that can cause him to lose his life. If he doesn't join, then we're going to need more people to help Magnus and I.

Isabelle soon came back with Simon and Jace. "What's the favor, Alec?" Isabelle asked.

"Well you guys know that Maddi was taken by Aversa." The air felt thicker all of a sudden. It scares me so much knowing she's with that monster. "Magnus and I have a plan to get Maddi back, but we need your help. It's obviously going to be protected, so we need you guys to take care of them as I look for Aversa. I kill her and we get out of there as soon as possible with Maddi." Hopefully. "Magnus is going to get two Warlock's to help, if that makes you feel any better. It better to be safe than sorry." I shoved my hands down my pockets and attempted to smile confidently, like I knew the plan was going to work. I know Shadowhunters are supported to believe that we'll return victorious, but I'm not so sure this time. Considering what we could be facing. What if she's not there? What if she is there but something goes wrong? What if someone dies? It was all a bunch of "what if's"

Isabelle and Simon exchanged worrying glances. "We'll do it."

"Thank you." I breathed out in relief.

"Anything to get her back. I can't imagine what it must be like. You loved her so much."

"Yeah..." I've honestly never felt something so horrifying. Maybe when Magnus was kidnapped.

"I'll go too. I'm having a child of my own and he needs a cousin." I signed in relief. We'll have help. We'll have a better chance of saving her.

"Thank you. It'll be a big help. We go tomorrow night. Be ready in your gear and have your weapons." They nodded. "It's going to be tough, but we'll get her back." I thanked them one more time before we left. We left more content then when we entered, which is good.

"Are you afraid?" Magnus asked me when we got home.

"Ive faced demons before. This shouldn't be any different." I started getting my arrows so I could put them in my quiver.

"I know the demons don't scare you, but are you afraid?" Shadowhunters are never scared. We know how to face demons, so we aren't scared of them. Being scared is just anticipating fear. Afraid is another thing. Afraid is actually feeling fear. When a million different things are running through your mind; none of them good. When you see the body of a fellow Shadowhunter fallen and you worry about what killed them. When your heart is racing because you don't know what's going to happen. That's what being afraid is. I'm not scared of what's going to happen to my daughter, I'm afraid.

"Yes. We all are, aren't we?" I asked.

"I know, but I think we have a good chance of getting her back. Don't you?" I actually miss waking up in the middle of the night because she was crying. At least then I knew she was safe. After this I'll be able to see her running through the halls again; pulling the cat's tail again; spilling Magnus' glitter and then have him put it up with magic. You'd think after so many times he'd put it in a different place, but he knows that she gets joy from seeing the glitter on the floor. He doesn't even get mad. After this we'll be a family again. A different family than normal ones, but a family. It brought a smile to my face.

"I think so too, Magnus."

The thought of my daughter being safe home again was good enough to put me to bed that night.
