The God's Gambit

Sorrow spread across the usually cheerful God's house. The striking white walls looked a tad dull, those majestic sculpted pillars didn't look the same regal and that carved golden gate was suddenly starting to turn black a little. And all of that just because of a simple request from the sweet little daughter of God.

"I want to go on a vacation papa," she had pleaded a couple of days ago.

"Sweetheart, you know I can't leave the house right now. We'll go when your mother comes back," the God had defended.

But even the God was helpless before a small pleading child. After a long session of arguing from the both sides, finally God had to give up. He had to agree to take his daughter for a vacation on the moon.

But only the God knew that it was better said than done. There were not one but many complications on the way. The Goddess was off to secure a peace treaty with a Demon. This Demon had been giving the God some trouble with the operations of Earth recently; and so, this truce was very important.

The God can surely not call the Goddess back, and now with him agreeing to go; a massive question loomed in the space – Who will watch over the humans for the next two months?

The God connected with the Goddess via the star-link in order to find a solution to this impeding problem.

"Can you manage the Earth's account remotely from there?" the God asked

"It would be very difficult," the Goddess refused, "I get very little time. There are many middlemen to convince before I get to talk to the Demon, and it's not an easy job."

The God could understand her situation. He knew how demanding those middlemen can get, asking for stars and meteors before opening the gates. But he knew how good the Goddess was at this convincing job. A glimpse of her face on that giant screen made him forget half his worries. No one can match her beauty in that white dress, and the golden edges just accentuated the imperial look. For some time, the god was lost in her sea blue eyes.

"Can't you do it from the moon," the Goddess asked watching the God silent.

"No...no," the God said jolting back to senses, "You know the 5G connectivity on moon isn't sufficient enough for the job."

"Oh yes, I can understand," the Goddess shared the concern.

The line went silent for some time as both began to think of a solution. Suddenly, a bright yellow ring glowed above the Goddess' head as she got an idea.

"How about the prince?" she asked, "he's home for holidays anyway."

What on the heaven! The god thought. He couldn't believe that someone like her could give such a horrific idea. Give the reins to the prince, no, never. The God remembered the last time Prince had snuck into the control room. He had granted permission to erupt a volcano and drown two cities in floods.

"Are you out of your mind?" the God flared.

"Yes, I mean, no," the Goddess faltered a little, "I know what you are thinking, but you strictly warn him this time, that he had to just watch the proceedings and call you if something went wrong."

God still had a massive doubt in his head about this, but then, he wasn't left with any other option.

"The Prince it will be then," he agreed, "but keep this in mind, if anything goes wrong, like anything, you will be the one to clean that mess."

"Okay my lord," the Goddess smiled, melting the God's heart in an instant.

Next week, before the God and little Princess boarded their space chariot, God handed over his user-Id and password to the Prince. He warned the Prince in the strictest words he could conjure, that he had to just sit there and watch the things go by. He was not supposed to touch any of the controls without the God's consent.

But he also knew that just a warning won't be enough, so he decided to throw in a temptation as well.

"If these two months go by smoothly, I will give you half the controls of Mercury."

The Prince jumped up with excitement and assured the God to leave all the worries on this golden gate and enjoy the vacation.

Two weeks flew past quickly without anything interesting. The Prince was soon bored to just sit there and watch the humans trot along with their daily business. Some hurried to their work while some wasted their time in leisure. The winter was refreshing in one part of the world, the summer was making them smile in the other and the rains made them all jubilant. Sure, the riots, clashes, arguments and calamities erupted in some place or the other, but there was just nothing out of normal.

It quickly bored the little Prince.

He felt pity on the humans for having to spend their lives in a normal and boring way. What else can they do anyway? It wasn't as if they could control their own lives. All the strings rest in the God's trained and trusted hands. They were only the characters playing out their roles on this theater the Gods called Earth. They needed some excitement in their lives.

And so, with an aim of doing them a favor, the Prince toggled with the controls to add an extra layer of excitement in the human lives. Unfortunately for the Prince, the God had learned from his mistakes. Before leaving, he had turned the system into some language that the prince was yet to learn. The Prince couldn't understand anything that was displayed in that code file of Earth, let alone find the array of excitement controls.

There's a popular saying on Earth that you shouldn't try and poke your nose in the things you don't understand. The Prince would have known it if he had spent some time on Earth during his training phase, but being the arrogant godly child that he was, he didn't find it fruitful at all. Instead, he had wasted those years racing on the Saturn's rings. And today, he was paying the price for that ignorance.

Aloof to the circumstances, he was busy playing with the controls trying to decode a piece of the cake atleast. He couldn't bake the cake at all, but accidentally, he did click on the button which read 'Disable Firewall' in the language which he didn't understand.

The moment he hit that button, an evil laugh was heard across the entire Earth.

In the war-room of hell, the Demon had employed all the hackers which were banished from Earth for the wrong deeds. Her theory was simple, "It didn't matter if you were good or bad, if you know how to play with those codes, the gates of hell are always open for you." For as long as an eternity, all those hackers had been taping on their flaming keyboards trying to get past the God's defenses without any luck.

It had been an irritating phase for the Demon as she kept on losing the various stars and galaxies to God. She had rallied hard to keep her supporters and her followers happy, but that charming and beautiful Goddess was slowly turning them all on her side. The Demon was in a situation where she was almost forced to strike a peace accord with the God. Yes, almost.

Just when the Demon thought she would lose her hard earned hell, God made the mistake of heaven's lifetime. She didn't understand how such a mighty God could bend against the wishes of a little girl, but she was happy by the sudden change of events. She had pleaded her middlemen to hold off the Goddess for a while longer. That entire war-room was waiting for the little Prince to make an error.

And the Prince obliged.

Much to all their shocks, the Prince turned off the firewall of God's control system. The automatic malware protection did kick in the very next second, but that one little second was enough the talented hackers to plant their little viruses.

"We could only hack three input files mam," the head of piracy operations reported to the Demon, "We injected that special code you had generated two centuries ago."

Satisfied, the Demon went out smiling to shake the hands of the awaiting Goddess. All she had to do now was to wait for the virus to show their effect.

Oblivious to anyone, three super-humans had graced the land of Earth.
