Chapter 5: The Interrogation.
"Thanks Kenny. I owe you one. See you in a bit. Love you. Bye." I said hanging up and heading back into the dining room. "There. Kent will be here in a little bit and you'll be on your way to the slammer in a bit." I said pointing to the gangster slouching in the chair by the table as Sylvia sat by him growling at him. Ready for me to say the word. I secretly opened up my recording app and started to record. "Now. While we wait, why don't we have ourselves a nice little chat." I said sitting across from him, setting my phone on the table. Subtly facing the speaker towards the man. "Let's start with your real name." I said folding my hands in front of me. "I ain't telling you nothin'." he said with a snarl. I smirked at him.
"Really? You won't tell me anything?" I asked tilting my head a little as I smiled innocently at him.
"Nothing. The cop is coming and you can't do nothing. The boss'll bust me out and pay off your cop friend. Then we'll be back to deal with you." he said with a defiant smirk. I smiled more as I stood up and started petting Sylvia.
"Hmm. Well then. If I can't make you talk, I'm sure that Sylvia would love to have a chat with you. Isn't that right girl?" I asked as Sylvia stood up and snarled at him. "She's highly trained. I just say a single word, and she'll be at your face worse than a parent at their kid about their grades." Sylvia bared her teeth as she snarled at him. I watched as his body language went from confident to terrified.
"Are you going to talk? Or should I just use the word right now?" I asked stroking my loyal companion's fur. He swallowed hard. "Look, I don't know nothin'." He said petrified of the dog. "Let's start easy, What's your real name?" I asked glaring at him.
"The name's Vincent O'Larry. Everybody calls me Vinny." He said in a rush, keeping his eye on Sylvia.
"Good. What did 'The Boss' tell you to look for out here in the sticks?" I asked glaring at him.
"I don't know." he said shrugging. I stared at him with a blank face. "Sylvia." I said smoothly. She began to bark at the man named Vinny. He jumped in his seat as Sylvia started barking ferociously at him. "FINE! Fine!" he yelled. I snapped my fingers and Sylvia stopped.
"Two of our escaped prisoners. Captain Hammock and that boy reporter Tintin. They were messin' in the Boss's plans and we were supposed to 'take care of them'."
"Where were you taking them?"
"Nowhere." I glared at him. "Sylvia." Sylvia began barking again, this time nipping at his feet a little. "ALRIGHT! ALRIGHT!" He said lifting up his feet and trying to keep balance on the chair.
"They were going to take them to Washington and dispose of them there. But plans changed when we got word that the plane crashed and they weren't in it."
"How did you know about the crash? It hasn't been on the news yet and Kent hasn't come to my place until I called him about it." I said standing up and leaning forward on the table looking him dead in the eye.
"One of our men called it in after the plane crashed and he saw someone in a black truck get them out of the wreck. He shot at them but they got away. He said the person compared his shooting to that of a Star Wars Storm Trooper." He rambled. I snickered and turned away for a moment.
"What's so funny?" he asked. I turned to him and grinned.
"Well, he's not wrong." I said as I brushed away the hair that had hidden the long scab on my face. "But he managed to nick my cheek. But luck was on my side." His eyes widened at my scab.
"Now, Who's your boss? Bobby Smiles? Or another crime boss?" I asked. He scowled at me. "I'll never tell you." he said bravely. But I knew it was just a facade. I could see the fear present in his eyes.
"Fine. Have it your way." I said getting up. Sylvia looked up at me, waiting for the word. I turned around and started walking away. "Sylvia, Terror." I said to her. She Immediately started acting like a rabid dog. I could hear her snarling and barking at Vinny. I could hear his panicked screams as she nipped at his heels and tugged in his pants. "ALRIGHT! ALRIGHT! I'LL TALK! I'LL TALK! JUST GET THIS CRAZY MUTT AWAY FROM ME!" He yelled as I heard him fall from his chair. I turned to Sylvia and smiled. "Sylvia, heel." She Immediately dropped the act and trotted over to me. I grabbed my phone and knelt down in front of Vinny. "Now. Who. Do you. WORK FOR!" I yelled at him. "BOBBY SMILES! Bobby Smiles is the head of the organization. He escaped jail and is out for revenge against those two!" he yelled back in a panic.
"I knew it." I whispered to myself. "How many of your men are here?" I demanded. "Only ten. Including me. We didn't think that it would be too hard to find them." he said in fear. Just then, my front door opened. "Hello! Somebody call a cop?" I grinned at the voice I heard. "Hey Kenny! I'm in the dining room with the suspect." I said as I stopped recording. I stood up and hugged him. "Good to see you Ken Doll." I said with a smirk. He groaned and rolled his eyes at me. "Why do you have to call me that? You know I hate that nickname." "All the more reason to use it. Anyways, here is the guy I called you about. I have a recording of everything hes told me. Interview him and compare the answers that he gives." I said sending him a copy of the voice recording. "Thanks Sam. You know, you would make a great cop or detective." he said with a smile. "I know. But I'd rather be a nurse." I said with a shrug. I watched as Vinny was dragged outside and put into the back of the cruiser. "Be on the lookout for more of his buddies. He said there were at least ten more members of his group. There might be more. And I wouldn't recommend letting him get ahold of anybody for a while. He might call up some large 'friends' of his." I said discreetly. Kenny nodded and got into the car. "Take care of yourself. I don't want my favorite niece to get hurt." He said out of the window before driving off.
I walked back into the house and shut the door. "What was all that about?" Haddock asked as I walked to the dining room to straighten things out. I'm slightly OCD and when things aren't the way they should be. A habit I've picked up from my mom. "Just a little interrogation. I actually need to speak to the both of you about some information I gained from our unexpected guest." I said as I walking to Tintin's room.
Hello everyone. Sorry for the long wait and the short chapter. My mind has gone kapoot and my drive to write had gone down the drain. My puppy Bruno died from Parvo. A disease that puppies get and most of the time, they don't make it. But I'm slowly pulling myself together. See you in the next chapter.
