Chapter 12
The two of them stood in the entrance hallway for what felt eternity but they didn't say a word. Yeonjun just held her close to his chest, letting the broken girl sob until no more tears could fall from her tired eyes.
"Please.. Don't leave me..." She whispered not even caring if he heard or not.
But he did and he held her even tighter, humming a soft little song as he gently stroked her hair. "I won't leave... I'm right here, okay?"
Without saying anything, she nodded her head gently gripping his shirt as she hugged him. She wanted to stay there with him forever. Just freeze this moment in time and keep it close to her. She hasn't felt this calm and safe in a very long time and she never wanted to let him go.. Not again, but before she could think about it any more, she gently pushed him away. With a puzzled look on his face, Yeonjun releases her and takes a step back. Miyoung wiped the last of her tears from her face.
"C-come in. I'll get you something to drink." She said, turning and quickly walking to the kitchen.
She could tell that he had hesitated before taking off his shoes and making his way to the living room where he settled on the couch. Miyoung grabbed a bottle of water from t6he fridge and walked to sit beside Yeonjun, handing the bottle to him.
"You probably need this more than me." He said.
He wasn't wrong. Her mouth was parched, and her eyes were dry from crying moments prior but she shook her head and insisted he take it. Looking down at her palms that rested in her lap, she began to fidget, feeling a bit awkward.
Opening the bottle and taking a sip, Yeonjun took a deep breath before saying. "I'm assuming Kai said something when you saw him last..."
She gasped and turned to face him. "How did you know?"
"Just a feeling."
"Right..."
"He's just... still hurting. I'm sure he didn't mean it." He said.
"No." Miyoung said. "He meant it. Every word. And I don't blame him." A sad smile grew on her lips that jabbed at Yeonjun's heart. "I deserve every bit of hatred that he has towards me."
"Miyoung don-" He started.
"You don't have to make excuses for him, Yeonjun. You probably feel the same way deep down." Her gaze fell back to her hands. "And that is okay. I did this to myself. I'm the reason why we aren't close. The reason why I have to rebuild my friendships with the boys. The reason Kai hates me." She was rambling now, but she couldn't stop. "I shouldn't have done what I did... Sabotaging your debut... I have regretted it every single day... Truly."
Her breath hitched for a moment before she continued. "I just didn't want to lose you... Selfish right?"
He didn't reply.
"What Kai said is nothing but the truth. I am pathetic. Disgusting. Selfish. All of it." Her throat felt tight. Finally saying it out loud, finally admitting not to Yeonjun but herself that this was on her. More tears swelled in the corners of her eyes but she refused to let them fall once again.
The man stared at the woman in front of him, unsure of what to say but having so much to say at the same time.
"You said you cared about me... but deep down you're still upset aren't you?" She asked.
His lips parted to say something but he pressed them in a thin line a second later. He still cared for her, yes, but why was he hesitating.
"It's okay."
"Miyoung..." Yeonjun said quietly, his hand reaching out to grab hers. "I mean it when I say it's okay..." His hand gently picked up one of her hands, gently rubbing the back of it with his thumb. "Whatever happened, happened and there is no way that we can change that."
She looked down at her hand in his, biting the inside of her cheek as her eyes began to sting.
"I didn't... want to hurt you..." She mumbled. "I just... didn't want to lose you guys.. I didn't want to lose you, Yeonjun."
He squeezed her hand ever so slightly once she said those words.
"That little time we spent together as trainees meant the world to me. Even after you debuted.. You still helped me more than ever.. But after your first comeback.. I felt.. So alone." She said. "You guys were getting more and more popular, you rarely responded to my texts, my calls, always busy doing this or doing that.."
She could feel his hand grip hers once more which made a lump grow in her throat. "Even though I was training harder and harder each day... It felt like I could never catch up to you."
Now that she started, she couldn't stop. All of the emotions she had been holding onto was slowly being let out. "It felt like you abandoned me.. even though I know you didn't."
She paused for a moment. "That's why I started that rumor..." Once she said those words, only then did she let the tears fall once more.
"Miyoung I alre-"
"No. You don't get it, Yeonjun." She stopped him mid sentence. "I did it for myself.. Without even considering what would happen to you."
"You don't have to keep going... I know.. I already forgave you. I promise." He said, squeezing her hand to try and give her reassurance.
"But I-"
Suddenly there was a knock at the door which made their heads spin towards the door. Confusion spreading on Miyoung's face as she turned back to face Yeonjun.
"You should get that."
Without saying anything, Miyoung wiped her face, sniffling a bit before rising from the couch and walking over to the door. Another series of knocks banged against the door as she approached it.
"Miyoung!" A familiar voice shouted on the other side of the door.
"Soobin?" She thought to herself.
"Miyoung, please open th-"
Swinging the door open, Soobin stumbled backwards in shock. Quickly regaining his balance, relief coated his face. Pulling Miyoung into his arms, he let out a loud sigh.
"Oh thank goodness you're okay."
"W-what? Why wouldn't I be?" She asked confused by the sudden embrace.
He pulled away, hands resting on his shoulders. "You didn't answer any of my texts or calls. I heard what happened with Kai and was worried."
"Oh..." She started, remembering that she had left her phone somewhere with the ringer off. "I'm fine. It's okay." She said with a small smile.
His eyes squinted as he examined her features. "Why were you crying?" He asked.
"What?"
"Your eyes are red and your face is flushed. Did Kai say something? Did something else happen?"
"Miyoung, is everything oka-" Yeonjun shouted from inside, peeping his head around the corner meeting eyes with Soobin.
"Was it him? Did he make you cry?" Soobin frantically asked.
"What? No?" She said, hearing Yeonjun approach the two.
"Then why were you crying?" He asked.
"We were just talking." Yeonjun said.
"I was asking Miyoung."
"Dude, what is your problem?"
"I don't have a problem. I just want to know why the fuck she was crying." Soobin said, voice raising ever so slightly to get his point across.
"Why are you being such an ass right now?" Yeonjun asked.
"Why the hell are you even here?"
"Tha-"
"Enough!" Miyoung shouted before taking a deep breath. "Soobin, I'm fine. You need to go home and calm the fuck down because I have no idea why you're so upset right now and it's making me anxious so please leave."
Soobin stared at her, mouth slightly agape as if he wanted to oppose. He didn't.
"Yeonjun. Thank you for being here but please leave. I need some time to think." She said, turning to Yeonjun.
He nodded.
"I'm sorry, Miyo-" Soobin started.
"Come on, let's go home." Yeonjun said, putting his shoes on before draping an arm over Soobin, forcing the taller man to bend down a bit and follow along.
"Text me when you guys get home." She said as the two older men left.
Closing the door behind her, she slumped against it and sighed, her eyes falling shut as she sat in the silence of her apartment.
