through music
a/n: this is an au inspired by a tiktok trend i've seen about soulmates being connected through music. i don't have an @ to give credit to, but i love this trend!

i sighed as ivy by frank ocean was the background music in my mind today. i knew my soulmate must've been listening to it again. i could tell she was a big fan of his music. she only listened to him when she listened to other sad songs, i sensed she was going through a breakup.
"i thought that i was dreaming, when you said you loved me," i sung quietly. "is she at it again?" saoirse asked me. i didn't want to tell anybody because you can only communicate through music with your soulmate when they're near you, and i didn't want to jinx it. and i knew she wouldn't judge me.
"ya, she must be going through a breakup. this music is so sad." i pointed out as ivy turned into from the dining table by harry styles. i was relieved to know she had good taste in music, however i really just wanted to know who she was.
"why don't you go find her?" saoirse asked me. i scoffed, that's so much easier said than done. "come on, saoirse. be serious. that's literally impossible." neither of us knew exactly what happened when you found them because neither of us had found ours yet. "timmy, my friend told me that if you just tap into your intuition and heart you can find them. and that when you are next to them, the music starts blasting in your ears, and you can barely hear anything else. she found hers, i know you can too." saoirse reassured me. "i have a feeling she's in central park." i blurted out, not even realizing what i was saying.
soon enough, i was on my way to central park. i could imagine a heartbroken girl, moping on the bench. i felt sad thinking about that. i just wanted to make her feel better. why'd you only ever call me when you're high by the arctic monkeys was now in the back of my mind. i soon had a feeling that she had (h/c) hair.
the music got louder as i walked further into the park. i felt my heart racing at the idea of finding my soulmate. i have waited 25 years for this. i took a deep breath and continued walking as the music in my head got louder.
i shut my eyes as the music got louder, but then realized i was probably right by her. i opened my eyes so fast, only to be met by the most beautiful girl i've ever seen.
"are you okay?" she asked me, pulling her airpod out of her ear. "you look a little distraught, i just wanted to make sure you were okay." she asked me and i nodded. "can i ask you something?" the words came out of my mouth before i could even realize what i was saying. "umm, sure," she mumbled, looking confused.
"what are you listening to?" i asked her. she lifted up her phone to show me. "am, the arctic monkeys album. it's one of my favorites. i listen to it whenever i go through a breakup. oh, i'm sorry, you probably don't care. way too much information." she joked and i touched my hands to her shoulders.
"it's you," i explained to her. she gave me a confused look. "i'm not sure i understand." she explained. "it's you, you're my soulmate. i've been hearing your music in my head all day. why'd you only ever call me when you're high got louder and louder as i walked closer to you and then it was blasting in my head." i explained to the girl and she nodded.
"were you listening to brent faiyaz this morning? she asked me and i nodded. "i heard dead man walking earlier today. it's one of my favorites. i knew you had good taste." she smiled, causing me to laugh. "funny, i said the same thing when i heard you listening to frank ocean," i laughed and she smiled, stepping closer to me.
"pleased to meet you, soulmate. i'm (y/n)." she smiled up at me and instinctively, i pulled her into a hug.
"i'm timothée. can i take you out? we have a whole life to catch up on." i smiled and she nodded.
"i thought you'd never ask."
