Chapter 1 - my mate?

Timmy was skipping and hopping his way home. Today was a beautiful day and more than that it, was the day he would meet his mate. Buddy, his wolf, had told him so. Still he continued to ask him again and again if he was certain, to which Buddy always replied yes that he could feel him drawing closer and closer. With renewed vigor Timmy rushed into his home to see his mother standing in the living room with mail in hand. He rushed her picking her up and spinning her in circles, she laughed as he sat her down before placing a kiss upon his cheek.

"Baby, you're worked up today, what's up with you?" Sarah asked Timmy as he bounced around. Seeing him happy always made her day, his innocence and joy was a constant blessing in her life as well as the lives of the other pack members.

"I get to meet my mate today, Buddy told me that he's getting closer; I can't wait, it's going to awesome mom, I have a mate." Sarah smiled even though her heart was breaking at the same time, her little man was growing up and she was going to have to let him. She knew this day would come, and had prepared as much as any mother could; still she was fearful for him as well.

"I'll let the others know for you, I'm sure they'll be happy for you, just as happy as I am for you." Timmy smiled brightly and kissed his mother's cheek once more, if his smile grew any larger his face might actually crack.

"I'm going to look for him, I can't wait any longer." With that Timmy was out the door before his mother could say anything else to him, she shook her head and expanded her mind.

"Guys, Timmy is meeting his mate today, please keep a tab on him just in case he gets lost again?" Sarah felt joy and excitement from many of the other members of the pack through the telepathic bond they shared; almost everyone loved Timmy just as she did. He was the pack darling, his innocence and joy was a constant reminder of the more positive things in their lives and world in general.

"Certainly, any idea which direction he took off in?" Sarah shook her head and looked out the door; Timmy was nowhere to be seen as far as she could tell.

"No idea at all, he tore out of here like his tail was on fire; all he said was that Buddy told him that he was getting closer." Sarah explained to Gloria, who was one of the pack guards and a dear friend to her; she had found Timmy more than once.

"I'll track him down as usual Sarah, although I'm a bit worried now; Nathan and his sister are on their way back, I certainly hope it's not him." The name sent chills up Sarah's spine, Nathan used to bully Timmy when they were younger; she hoped it wasn't him as well.

"That makes two of us Gloria, that's the last thing Timmy needs; someone just as cruel as our beloved Alpha." The sarcasm dripped from her words even with her mental voice, although she could feel Gloria's agreement through the connection.

"I heard that Sarah, you'll be working a double tonight at the factory for your insolence; you should have just drowned the pup when he was born like I advised you to do." Sarah closed her eyes and concentrated hard to not bite back with a remark; he was her Alpha after all.

Timmy soon found himself staring at the pack house not knowing what to do; Buddy told him that his mate was just behind the walls. The only problem was that Timmy wasn't allowed inside the pack house, since he wasn't really a member of the pack. He was a guest of the pack, or so the Alpha had stated long ago; even though he should be a member, it caused strain because he couldn't hear their thoughts. Timmy whimpered and sat down on the sidewalk facing the house, he really wanted to see his mate, he needed to see him.

The young man had never thought he would get a mate, he wasn't very smart and since the spirits had to know that he wasn't smart he just figured he wasn't worthy of a mate. Still that hadn't stopped him from praying to the spirits every night since the first time he had started having the strange dreams. The dreams that produced a strange fluid from his penis, it wasn't urine in fact it was almost solid; his mother had told it was semen. That it was used to reproduce with a female, only it hadn't been a female he had been dreaming about, it was a male of that he was certain.

When he told his mother she had looked a little surprised but she smiled all the same and kissed his forehead before telling him that it was alright if he didn't dream of females. That no matter what she would always love him, just like his father would always love him; he remembered how special it had made him feel knowing she loved him regardless.

He felt a small hand laying on his shoulder, the scent told him it was one of the pack guards, Gloria. He turned around eagerly. "Gloria, I found my mate. He is in the pack house, but I'm not allowed to enter it." he finished, his ears literally downcast. Gloria patted his back. "My, my. Just wait here. I'm waiting with you, if you want. Your mate will finally leave the pack house and then he is all yours." Timmy's eyes lit up when he heard that and together they sat at the pavement, Gloria listening absentmindedly to Timmys eager chit chat about his mate.

They didn't have to wait for long. The door to the pack house opened and the sturdy figure of Alpha, followed by the haggard frame of Luna left the pack house. Behind them, a taller frame left the house and after a handshake he left the porch, obviously heading to his car.

Timmy saw the tall figure behind Alpha, and before Gloria could react he yelled "MATE", jumped up and ran full speed to the young man now standing in front of his car, jumping on him happily and kissing him like there was no tomorrow.

Finally. After an eternity in human boarding schools, Nathan finally came home. Alpha paid for him to become a lawyer and he hated every minute of it. But it was his duty to his pack and so he did what he could. Finally he finished his last exams and now he was a full fledged lawyer.

Yay.

He was eager to visit his family he didn't see in all the years, only a phone call now and then was too far too less for him, he needed his pack and the constant thoughts of the mind link. He was lonely at the boarding schools and so was Nate, his wolf.

Who was strangely restless today. He had a hard time concentrate on Alphas rants about filthy humans who dare to file complaints against him. It was now his job to defy those complaints. In any way. And if the solution of a problem means that the human has to die then so be it.

Although he don't like humans very much, Nathan wasn't completely at ease how Alpha and Luna were talking about it. But they were the strongest and most vicious wolves in the pack so who was he to judge? Especially when he want to get old, finding a mate and have a happy family.

"MATE. That's it. Our mate is near." Nate yipped excitedly, finally catching why he felt so restless. Nathan felt his ears perking up. "Are you sure?" A feeling of confidence rushed through him like a heatwave. "Yes, I am. Our mate is near, we will meet very soon." his inner wolf answered eagerly.

Nathan thanked Alpha for paying for his education, listened to him ranting about my responsibility against the pack and then he was dismissed. He "honored" me by leading the young man to the porch and FINALLY he was free to leave that blasted house.

When Nathan stood in front of his car he heard a happy and oh so sweet voice yelling "MATE" and an excited shiver went down his spine. A second later Nate confirmed his suspicion. "MATE" he yipped in awe. Nathan turned around, a smile on his face when suddenly somebody jumped at and and smashed his lips on him.

For a second it was like heaven on earth. Nate was nearly purring and the both of them enjoyed the kiss so much.

For a second.

And then Nathan recognized the scent. No way. His mate was Timmy? The pack dork? This little moron? THAT was his mate? A MALE?

Nathan could feel Nate, who was taken aback a little. "He is our mate" he said fiercely. But Nathan refused this. There was no way that Timmy was his mate. He refused to be the mate of that... he wasn't even a wolf. More like a lost puppy. And he was a man, for the sake of the spirits.

Nathan jumped a step back, Timmy fell on the floor with a loud thud. The young man looked at him, his blue eyes cold like a winter breeze. "Stop that you moron. You are nothing to me. You are not even a pack member less then my mate."

I could see how the happy light in Timmy's face faded away immediately. He looked at me, confused and so was Nate. "What are you talking about? He IS our mate." he assured me, not understanding what Nathan was planning.

For Nathan there was no way in hell that he would kill his reputation by mating with this little loser. One thing he learned thoroughly at boarding school was: Reputation was everything. Without reputation you could be as strong as you want. You won't get any friends nor peers. And this little shit is busting his pack reputation. What will they think of him? Mated to this wannabe wolf?

"You are not my mate. I'd rather go mateless through life that having you on my side, you ugly stupid bastard. Get out of my way, get out of my life." Before he entered the car he heard the snickers of Alpha. "This is hilarious." he said and went back to whatever he is doing, still having fun. A sudden rush of hatred towards that man surprised Nathan and caught him almost off guard before he recognized that it was Nates feeling. "Oh come on, get over it. That dweeb is not our mate. No way. Our mate is a beautiful young woman. Period." There was no answer from Nate. Just a simmering heat which indicates his rage.

Finally Nathan got in the car and drove away. When he looked in the rear view mirror he saw Timmy, chasing the car, crying and his eyes showed a heartbreaking pain, yelling something he couldn't understand. Nathan saw him slipping and falling down at the tarmac, just before he turned into the street leading to his childhood home.

Nathan sped up. All he wanted was to get away from Timmy and find peace in his old home.

Nate was still completely silent, but Nathan felt a wave of disbelieve and anger rushing through him. And then...nothing. Nate seemed to vanish.

"Nate?" he asked his lifelong friend, getting a little nervous. Still, there was a deep silence. And then, with a very calm and deadly voice, Nathan heard his inner wolfs voice:

"Did you just reject our mate?" he asked, clearly pissed.
