The God Complex - Two

The Doctor and the Stone stood in a spa room in the hotel and looked at each other as Howie's voice echoed through the hotel using the Doctors screwdriver which hung on some rope as the man was tied to a chair in the reception.

The Time Lords turned around as they heard a loud bang two doors swung open.

The two darted to the edge of the room and hid behind a large wardrobe as the creature entered. The doors behind it suddenly shut and the Stone smiled.

"So far so good, Amy's locked the doors."

"Told you it was a good plan." The Doctor replied before pulling the plug on the radio behind him, projecting Howie's voice into the spa. "Nothing personal." The Doctor spoke up, slowly poking his head around the wardrobe before he and the Stone slowly walked around the room, using the mirrors they placed around to watch and confuse the creature. "I just think we should take things slowly. Get to know each other. You take people's most primal fears and pop it in a room. A tailor-made hell, just for them. Why?"

The creature answered in a snarl. "Did you say they take?" He questioned. "Ah, what is that word? The guard? No, the warden? This is a prison."

The Stone frowned. "What does that make us then, cell mates? Lunch?" She looked at the Doctor. "Joe said: 'We are not ripe,' that we weren't ready. So, what, does it do, make us ready?"

The creature growled again and the Doctor frowned.

"You what? Replace?" He looked at the Stone for a moment before looking back out at the room. "Replace what, fear? You have lived so long even your name is lost. You want this to stop. Because you are just instinct. Then tell me. Tell me how to fight you."

The Time Lords eyes widened as they heard Howie cry out. "My master, my lord. I'm here!"

"Gibbs." The Stone gritted her teeth in anger.

"No, no, no, no, no!" The Doctor shouted as the creature swung for them but instead smashed a thin wall of glass, causing ut to fly at the Time Lords. The Doctor pulled the Stone back and the two covered their faces as best as possible.

"Rory, watch out, it's coming." The Stone warned.

Amy and Rita suddenly burst through the door making the Time Lords turn around.

"Stay back!" The Doctor warned.

The creature smashed the glass door where Rory was hiding. The minotaur then left.

"Pond, bring the fish." The Doctor ordered as the Stone ran over to Rory and flashed her sonic over him.

"What, the fish? Oh, the fish."

"Where'd he go?" The Doctor asked as the Stone chuckled at her companions confusion. "Somebody hit me. Was it Amy?"

"Try a big creepy minotaur." She patted his shoulder before following the Doctor who gave chase with the creature. He then stopped finding Howies broken glasses.

The two ran around the hotel before they slowed down after spotting Howies body, slumped against the wall. The Stone bowed her head and closed the boys eyes while the Doctor placed his glasses into his hand. He looked up to see Amy, Rory and Rita stood at the end of the corridor. The Doctor slowly shook his head at them and the Stones eyes narrowed seeing a figure slowly walk out on the other end of the corridor.

"He got free." Gibbs whimpered m "He overpowered me. It might leave us alone now. Maybe now we'll be safe."

The Stone went to charge towards the alien. The Doctor quickly squeezed his wifes hand and shook his head at her.

"It isn't worth it, Stone."

The Time Lady sighed and met her husband's eyes. "No, it isn't."

The two then turned away and headed towards the three humans as Gibbs quickly followed. "Wait!"

---------------------------------------------------------------

The Doctor closely held the Stone, one of his arms wrapped around her waist in comfort as they spoke to Rory who looking at Howie's photograph on the wall that they had stumbled across.

"Have you found your room yet?" The Time Lord questioned the human.

"No." Rory shook his head. "Is that good or bad?"

"Maybe you're not scared of anything." The Stone looked up, she smiled quite proud of her companion, it had been a long time since Rory was the fiance, in the dark about the TARDIS and the dangerous adventures his soon to be wife and two Time Lords went on.

"Well, after all the time I spent with you in the TARDIS, what was left to be scared of?"

"You said that in the past tense." The Doctor commented.

"No, I didn't."

The Doctor opened his mouth but closed it when the Stone spoke up through their telepathic link. "Don't push it Doctor." She warned.

The Doctor sighed slightly and Rory glanced at the photo of Howie. "You know, Howie had been in speech therapy. He'd just got over this massive stammer. What an achievement. I mean, can you imagine?" He looked over at the Time Lords. "I'd forgotten not all victories are about saving the universe."

The Stone smiled. "And that's what's important." The Doctor nodded in agreement and kissed her hair.

---------------------------------------------------------------

After the Time Lords left Rory who went to find Amy the two found Rita as the woman headed down the stairs.

"Rita! Brilliant!" The Doxtir exclaimed. "How are you? Not panicking, are you?" She nodded. "Good, good. Because the Stone and I are literally an otter's toenail away from getting us out of here."

The Stone frowned at him as Rita gave him a puzzling look. "Why?"

"Excellent question." The Doctor nodded before he frowned. "Why what?"

"Why is it up to you to save us?" She crossed her arms. "That's quite a God complex you two have there."

"We brought them here. They'd say it was their choice, but offer a child a suitcase full of sweets and they'll take it. Offer someone all of time and space and they'll take that, too. Which is why you shouldn't. Which is why grown-ups were invented."

The Stone laughed. "Which is exactly why you are practically a child."

The Doctor pouted and Rita raised a brow.

"All of time and space, eh?"

"Oh, yeah. And when we get out of this, I'll show you too."

"You just can't help yourself can you?"

"I have no idea what you mean, dear."

"You can't resist anyone called Rita can you?"

"Can too!" He protested.

Rita looked between both the Time Lords before she shook her head. "I don't know what you're talking about, but whatever it was, I have a feeling you just did it again."

The Stones eyes widened, spotting a small black device in the top corner of the ceiling out of the corner of her eye.

"Finally..." the Stone smirked. "Got you."

The Doctor laughed and grabbed the Stones hand. The two ran down the stairs without looking back at Rita who looked at the camera. "Praise him."

---------------------------------------------------------------

The Doctor suddenly ran ahead making the Stone groan as he turned a corner. "Doctor!" She huffed turning the same corner before she frowned, staring at the Doctor who had stopped and was staring back at her. He wasn't staring at her though, but rather whatever was behind her.

The Time Lady raised a brow and turned around before her eyes widened.

Room number eleven was right in front of her. "Of course..." She whispered. "Eleventh Doctor, eleventh room."

"Technically..." The Doctor went to cut in but stopped as he stepped forward. He swallowed hard and the Stone took his hand when he reached out for her. They entwined their fingers and the Doctor stood almost frozen, transfixed on the door.

"We should go..." The Stone told her husband.

"Yes, but aren't you interested?" He asked, not even turning to look at her. "I am... a bit."

The Stone squeezed his hand. "I know you're scared sweetheart. I'm right here, just give me a sign and I can pull you away from this."

The Doctor tore his gaze away from the door to look at the Time Lady for a moment and smiled. "Love you."

"Love you too, Doctor." She whispered as he turned back to the door and grasped the door handle before he turned the doorknob and pushed it open ever so slightly.

"Of course." He whispered. The Stone peered over his shoulder and raised a brow.

It was a crack in time. It all made sense. They knew what was going to happen and it definitely terrified the Stone but the Doctor, it would scare him ten times worse, neither of them knew what was on the other side of the crack, when the Doctor didn't know something it scared him. "Who else?" He whispered before shutting the door.

The Stone looked at the Doctor whose hand was still on the door, his eyes were wide for a moment and his chest was heaving. "Sweetheart?" The Stone gently placed a hand on his arm.

The Doctor looked at her and took her hand before raising it up to his lips to kiss it. "I'm okay." He reassured.

The Stone narrowed her eyes at him. "You can't fool me, Doctor."

The Doctor gave her a soft smile. "Seriously, Stone." He squeezed her hand. "I'm much better now." The Stone looked him up and down and did have to agree with the Time Lord. He did look better than when he closed the door. "All I needed was to be reminded that my brilliant wife is right next to me."

The Stone grinned and the Doctor placed a do not disturb sign onto the door handle. "Just as a precautionary measure." He smiled.

The Stone nodded and kissed his cheek. "Let's go find that CCTV room."

---------------------------------------------------------------

The Time Lords grinned and entered the small CCTV room with multiple small screens on the wall. "Oh, you beauty. Come on, big fellow, where are you?"

"Doctor..." the Stone bought his attention to one of the screens. The Time Lord frowned seeing none other than Rita walking through the hall. "Where is she going?"

The Doctor picked up the phone and rang the closest door. Rita turned around and look looked at the camera before she entered the room and answered the phone.

"Rita, where are you going? Can you take the phone into the corridor? Will it reach?"

Rita did as he said. "You started to praise it, didn't you?"

She nodded and the Doctor sighed. "Rita, come back, please. We'll find a way to stop it, I swear to you."

"No, I need to get as far away from you all as possible."

"No, no, no, you don't. The creature only wants whoever's praising it."

"And then you'll put yourselves in its way."

The Stone shook her head and grabbed the phone off the Doctor. "We're coming to get you and that's final. Block out the fear and stay focused on your belief, Rita."

Rita smiled slightly and shook her head. "It's no use Stone, the hotel will keep us apart. I could be fifty miles away by now." Rita turned around for a moment after hearing a growl. "I want you to do me one last favour, Stone. I can feel the rapture approaching, like a wave. I don't want you or the Doctor to witness this. I want you to remember me the way I was."

The Stone swallowed hard and Any and Rory suddenly entered the room. "What's going on? Rita's disappeared." Amy frowned seeing Rita on the screen. "What's she doing there?"

"Rita, please. Let us find you, we can stop this."

"No, you stay where you are. Please, let me be robbed of my faith in private."

"Go into the room and lock the door, we're on our way Rita."

She shook her head. "I'm not frightened. I'm blessed, Stone. I'm at peace. I'm going to hang up."

"No!" The Time Lords shouted. "No, no, Rita."

"Goodbye, Doctor, Stone. Thank you for trying."

Rita placed the phone down and stood up, the Stone stared at the screen as the Doctor lowered his eyes, the Time Lady quickly flashed her sonic at the screen as the shadow of the creature got closer and closer.

The Stone swallowed hard and tightly hugged the Doctor who placed his head on top of his wifes before he closed his eyes and breathed out a long sigh.
