The God Complex
Yes this is the God Complex next I had done this to separate the two First Night and Last night chapters for a reason: One, they're some references that won't be understood until after the God Complex and two, I planned for First Night and Last Night to not be in the same time as the rest of the book, I should have made it more clear but the ____ Nights work around the book, not in a linear timeline to it.

The Stone lightly knocked on the wooden banister while the Doctor looked over the top of it and down at the floor below the two of them grinning.
"Let's go to Ravan-Skala, he says. The people are six hundred feet tall." Amy dully said her arms crossed, watching the Time Lords. "You have to talk to them in hot air balloons and the Tourist Information Centre is made of one of their hats, he says. I'm sorry, but I don't see any huge hats."
"Amy, Beaky..." he had a bright smile on his face. The Stone raised a brow and he lightly coughed his smile slightly falling. "Sorry." He apologised to the man for the nickname he had forced upon him. "This could be the most exciting thing I have ever seen." His grin returned and he looked at the Stone who smiled back at him. She definitely was excited about this but he looked like a small innocent puppy and it was adorable.
"You're kidding." Rory looked between them. "Stone?"
"No he is right." She beamed holding her beanie as she looked over the banister for a moment. "This is very exciting."
"Okay the Doctor being excited is understandable. He got excited when you said about getting some more fish fingers and custard a few days ago but you being excited about this is odd." She frowned at the Time Lady. The Doctor noddee in understanding and hummed now wanting fish fingers and custard. "How can you be excited about a rubbish hotel on a rubbish bit of Earth?"
"Because, assembled Ponds, this is not Earth." The Doctor explained. "This has just been made to look like Earth. The craftsmanship involved. Can you imagine?"
"What?" Amy looked at them confused. "Then where are we?
"I don't know." He laughed running over to a plant with the Stone. "Something must have yanked us off course. Look at the detail on that cheese plant!" He exclaimed and sniffed it. The Stone chuckled and lightly patted his back.
"Right, but who would mock up an Earth hotel?" Rory asked.
"Colonists maybe, recreating a bit of home, like when ex-pats open English pubs in Majorca." The Doctor suggested picking up a red apple from a large bowl. He handed it to the Stone who bit into hers as he picked up another taking a bite out of his own. "No, whoever did this, I am shaking his stroke her hand stroke tentacle."
"Have you seen these?" Rory noticed a large group of photos on the wall. Each with the name and a label underneath them. Curiously the Doctor and Stone turned to him and frowned at what he pointed out. "Look at the labels underneath."
"Commander Halke, defeat." He read from under a photo of a Sontaran. "Tim Heath, having his photo taken." A man that looked human surprisingly smiled at the camera in his photo given what the label said. "Lady Silver-Tear, Daleks."
The Doctor and the Stone gave each other a concerned look as Amy read more of the names out. "Paige Barnes, other people's socks. Tim Nelson, balloons. Novice Prin, sabrewolves. Royston Luke Gold, Plymouth?" She said questioningly. "Lucy Hayward, that brutal gorilla." A photo of a dark-haired woman was smiling in her photo. Now that the Time Lords thought about it everyone who was capable of it was smiling in their photos. "Doctor, what does it mean?"
"I don't know." He muttered. His face then grew into a smile at the same Time as the Stones. "Let's find out."
He took the Time Lady's hand and they raised down the stairs trying not to trip over their own or each other's feet as they went. Arriving at what seemed to be the check in they looked around curiously and moved over to the desk. The Doctor rang the small bell on the desk and jumped with the Time Lady when three people ran out from around the corner.
A woman with a chair leg pointed at the Time Lords. A man who had a mouse like face waved a flag between her and the young man with thick glasses who held a vase in defense looking slightly out of his comfort zone.
The Doctor pulled the Stone towards him after their fright
"Blimey, that was a bit quick." The Doctor said eyeing the three.
"We surrender." The rodent-like man waving the flag said.
"No, it's okay, we're not-" Rory tried to explain.
"We surrender."
"We're nice."
"She's threatening me and the Stone with a chair leg." The Doctor said to Amy and Rory.
"Who are you?" The woman holding the chair leg, dressed in hospital scrubs asked,
"Oh god, we're back in reception." The boy noticed.
"We surrender."
"I've never been threatened with a chair leg before." He whispered to Amy and then blinked remembering that the Stone did actually threaten him with one once when they were children. "No, hang on, I tell a lie."
"Did you just say, it's okay, we're nice?" Amy looked over at Rory.
"Okay, I need everyone to shut up, now." The woman ordered.
"Rita, be careful, yeah?"
She looked at the Doctor and then the Stone in the eyes. "Their pupils are dilated. They're as surprised as we are. Besides which, if it's a trick, it'll tell us something."
"Oh, you're good."
"Very good." The Stone nodded.
"Oh, she's good." He continued to nod. "Amy, with regret, you're fired."
"What?" She blinked in confusion. The Stone lightly jabbed her elbow into his ribs making him wince. "I'm kidding." He then silently mouthed to her thinking that the Stone wasn't paying attention. "We'll talk."
"You surrendered." The Time Lady noddealienthe ailen in between the two human. Given that and the while flag I take it that you're from Tivoli."
"Yes. The most invaded planet in the galaxy." He nodded proudly. "Our anthem is called Glory To Insert Name Here."
"You with the face, Howie." The Doctor remembered his name. "You said you were surprised to be back in reception."
"The walls move. Everything changes."
"You, clever one." He pointed at Rita. "What's he talking about?"
"The corridors twist and stretch." She explained to him. "Rooms vanish and pop up somewhere else. It's like the hotel's alive."
"That's quite enough of that." The Soxtor muttered walking over to the desk and fonding the cassette player, turning off the music before returning back to the Stones side.
"Yeah, and it's huge, with, like, no way out." Howie nodded at them.
"Have you tried the front door?" Rory asked.
"No." Rita seemed to restrain herself from rolling her eyes. "In two days it never occurred to us to try the front door. Thank God you're here."
Amy laughed at her while the Doctor walked over and opened the teo main doors only to come face to face with a white painted wall. "They're not doors, they're walls." He muttered. "Walls that look like doors. Door-walls, if you like, or dwalls. Woors even, though you'd probably got it when you said they're not doors." He rambled on making the Stone chuckle at him. "I mean, the windows are-" The Doctor walked over to the windows that were closes and pulled the curtain to show another wall and no glass. "Right, big day if you're a fan of walls. "He remarked,
"It's not just that." Rita looked at him a little nervous. "The rooms have things in them."
"Things?" The Stone raised a brow, "What kind of things are they and are they interesting things?"
"Oh yes, we love things don't we dear?" He placed an arm over the Stones shoulder, grinning at her.
"Bad dreams." Rita slowly replied watching their faces fall.
"Well, that killed the mood." The Doctor grumpily replied.
"How did you get here?" The Time Lady looked at the three.
"I don't know." Rita shrugged gesturing to herself. "I'd just started my shift. I must have passed out, because suddenly I was here."
"I was blogging." Howie said next. "Next thing, this."
"Oh, I was at work." The Tivoli said quiet enthusiastically. "I'm in Town Planning. We're lining all the highways with trees so invading forces can march in the shade."
"Ah." The Time Lords glanced at each other for a moment."
"Which is nice for them."
"Yeah." Everyone said slightly awkwardly.
"So, what have we got." The Doctor clapped his hands together. "People snatched from their lives and dropped into an endless, shifting maze that looks like a 1980s hotel with bad dreams in the bedrooms." He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Rubik's cube he had stolen from George a week ago. "Well, apart from anything else, that's just rude." He said looking at the cube not sure if he was talking about himself stealing the small puzzled toy or the three others being trapped here.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Doctor and the Stone climbed the stairs heading back to the TARDIS with Amy, Rory and the other three following behind. "We'll pop back to the TARDIS." He called over his shoulder. "We'll do a planet-wide diagnostic sweep, and then we'll have a sing-song." His face then fell when they came back to where they landed but with no TARDIS in sight.
"Where's the TARDIS?" Amy looked between the Time Lords who both shared a nervous glance at each other. "You parked it there, didn't you?"
"What's a TARDIS?" Howie asked. The Doctor started to wave his arms about where he was sure the TARDIS was before to check that it didn't somehow make herself invisible.
"Our way out." Rory muttered to Howie groaning slightly, lightly hitting his head on the stair bannister. "And it's gone."
The Doctor then froze stepping closer to the Stone wanting her right beside him when he heard the cassette player started back up. "Okay, this is bad." He nervously rubbed his hands together. "At the moment, I don't know how bad, but certainly we're three buses, a long walk and eight quid in a taxi from good. Are there any more of you?"
"Joe," Rita answered. "But he's tied up right now."
"Tied up?" The Stone raised a brow. "Doing what?"
"No." She shook her head not meaning the metaphor. "I mean he's tied up right now."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Slowly the Doctor turned the door handle of the door entering into the restaurant. The laughter piercing into his ears like someone was breathing on the back of his neck. He opened the door and his eyes fell on probably the strangest thing he could have thought up that morning.
Ventriloquist dummies sitting on each snd every chair at the tables. Their jaws moving up and down on their own in laughter until they fell silent. Some of the heads of the dummies even turning 360 degrees to keep their eyes fixed on the group entering. The Stone grasped the Doctors hand. Glad that he was in front of her and not behind. She really didn't want to take her eyes off the dummies and expose her back to them.
The otherw slowly entered behind the Time Lords. Amy and Rory standing close together with Rita behind them and Howie and the Tavori then learned to be Gibbs closest to the door.
"Hello." The Doctor greeted the man to be Joe who was indeed tied up.
I'm the Doctor and this is my wife the Stone.
The man started to laugh. "We're going to die here."
"Well, they certainly didn't mention that in the brochure." The Stone muttered sharing a grim look with the Doctor who nodded.
"Is Joe there?" He asked stepping closer to Joe with the Tome Lady. "Can we have a quick word?"
"Oh, it's still me, Doctor, but I've seen the light." He said smiling, sounding almost like he has been given a drug to make him this bubbly. "Lived a blasphemous life, but he has forgiven my inconstancy, and soon he shall feast."
"Well, you've been here two days." The Stone raised a brow and crossed her arms. Feeling slightly more at ease around the ventriloquist dummies. "What's he waiting for?"
"We weren't ready. We were still raw."
"But now you're what, cooked?" The Doctor guessed also raising a brow at the man before slightly frowning while Joe giggled to himself. "Look at his cufflinks." He tellipathically instructed the Stone.
"And his horseshoe clip to go with the dice cufflinks." She hummed in his mind. "Possibly a gambler?"
"Possibly."
"If you like." Joe said after calming himself. "Soon you will be, too. Be patient. First, find your room."
"My room." The Doctor frowned.
"There's a room here for everyone, Doctor." He said a little darker than the Time Lord liked. "Even you."
"You said you'd seen the light now." The Doctor pushed his words to the back of his mind.
"Nothing else matters anymore." Joe shrugged. "Only him. It's like these things. I used to hate them." He looked to his left and right at the ventriloquist dummies. "They make me laugh now." He then started to giggle again. "Gottle o' geer. Gottle o' geer." The laughter of Joe and the dummies soon died down. "You should go. He'll be here soon."
The Doctor eyed the man, making sure he didn't try to get out of the chair he was tied in as the Stone found a luggage trolley just outside the room. She placed it under Joe's chair and tilted it back so the chair was completely off the ground. "We think you should come with us." The Stone said wheeling him out.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Doctor looked at the three humans and Tivorian "Why you four?" He shared a confused look with the Stone. "That's what we don't understand. Aside from all the other things we don't understand." The Time Lady rolled her eyes at him.
"What does it matter?" Gibbs asked. "Sooner or later, someone will come along and rescue us." He paused to turn ofc the cassette and mutter quietly. "Or enslave us."
The Doctor glanced at him for a short moment before he focused back on the others. "First, we find the TARDIS. Quick thing before we go. If you feel drawn to a particular room, do not go in."
"It's also best to stay with someone at all times." The Stone added on from the Doctor. "We don't know how much the rooms will try to pull us in. We need to protect and stop each other if need be."
"Exactly." The Doctor grinned clapping his hands and heading off.
"Joe said, he will feast." Rita made him stop and turn to face her. "Is there something here with us?"
The Doctor raised a brow and looked in the direction of the tied up man. "Something to add, Joe?"
The man grinned devilishly as if he had been waiting for someone to ask that very question. "Here comes a candle to light you to bed. Here comes a chopper to chop off your head." He whispered. "Chop, chop, chop, chop."
"Can we do something about him?" Howie nervously asked.
"I may have an idea." The Stone muttered reaching into her pocket. She didn't exactly agree with it but given the situation, the man was actually creeping he out.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Personally, I think you've got the right idea," Gibbs muttered as he wheeled Joe along. The man's mouth taped over with duck tape to keep him quiet. "Times like this, I think of my old school motto. Resistance Is Exhausting."
"I've worked out where we are." Howie nodded talking to Rory.
"Hmm?" Rory hummed. The Stone raised a brow and spun around, starting to walk backwards. Intrigued by what the young human had discovered.
"Norway," Howie said.
"Norway?" The Stone and Rory both said. The Doctor looked over his shoulder.
"You see, the US government has entire cities hidden in the Norwegian mountains." He explained. "You see, Earth is on a collision course with this other planet, and this is where they're going to send all the rich people when it kicks off.0"
"Amazing." Rory tried not to roll his eyes.
"It's all there on the internet." Howie tried to protest the Doctor smirked and the Stone turned back around lightly jabbing his ribs at what she could see he was thinking.
"Rude and not ginger." she hummed into his mind.
"I have no idea what you are talking about dear." He lightly sniffed as if to say 'where is your evidence'
"You thought he was being stupid." She told him.
"Sorry..."
"Good and thank you."
The Time Lords then stopped when the door just i front of them opened and a man looking like he was a PE teacher stepped out. The humans ad Tavorin all stopped and stared at the man. "Hello." The Doctor unsurely greeted him.
"Have you forgotten your PE kit again?" The man asked looking at what the Doctor was wearing. "Right, that's it, you're doing it in your pants!" He then walked back inside the room. The Doctor glanced at the Stone. His eyes then widened spotting what Howie was doing behind hers and the others backs.
"Hey!" The Doctor tried to warn him. "Don't!"
It was no use, Howie opened the door to room 155. "Oh, look, girls." A blonde girl out of many in the room who looked around Howies age looked in the direction of the door. The Doctor, along with the others bar Howie frowned. "It's H-H-H-Howie!" She teased with a stutter.
"What's loser in K-K-K-Klingon?" A brunette asked.
"Shut the d, d, d, the door." Howie pointed at the door, avoiding eye contact with the girls. The Doctor did so moving around the young man. "This is just some m, m, messed up CIA stuff, I'm, I'm, I'm telling you." He tried to reassure himself and the others."
"You're right." The Doctor patted him on the shoulder. "Keep telling yourself that. It's a CIA thing, nothing more."
----------------------------------------------------------------
The group continued to walk through the hotel hallways that seemed to look exactly like one another. "Er guys?" Rory frowned seeming to have spotten something.
"Look." Amy reached down and picked up a couple of pieces of paper, her head jolted up to look ahead of her as she and the others heard a loud roar. "Okay." She slowly said standing up. "Whatever that is, it's not real, yeah?"
"No." The Doctor shook his head in agreement yet still tightly held the Stones hand. "No, I'm sure it isn't, but just in case, let's run away and hide anyway." He looked around and then nodded.
The Stone opened the door and let the others through, into the room. "In here."
Amy and Gibbs headed in while Rita wheeled Joe into another room. "No, this way!" Rory tried to tell them while they all moved to the rooms. "I've found a-" he then cut himself off. The fire Exit door he had noticed before now where room 219 was.
The creature roared again and the Doctor groaned. "Rory, come on!"
"There was a-." He tried to explain.
"Come on!" The Time Lords both shouted. The Stone pulling him into the room.
The Doctor shut the door and turned around freezing in his tracks, eyes wide with his hand tightly grasping the Stone, pulling her closer to him.
Three weeping angel statues were facing the Doctor, Stone and the humans.
"Don't blink." Amy whispered.
"What?" Howie stared.
The lights flickered but the angels didn't move towards the group. "Amy, get back." The Stone ordered pulling on the womans arm. "Why haven't they got us yet?" She questioned.
The Doctors stepped forward, keeping hold of the Stones hand as he held his arm up and slowly went to tap one of the angels, his finger going straight through it like an illusion.
"Fake." He whispered then glanced at the Stone who let out a sigh before noticing Amy who was still staring at it. "Amy, they're not real."
"What?" She said.
"They should have got us by now." The Stone turned to the woman. "Amy, look at us." She whispered moving in front to block her view of the angels. "Amy focus on me and the Doctor it's just your bad dream, that's all."
"I don't even think they're for us." Rory muttered and glanced at Gibbis.
They heard a lpud thumping coming from down the hall. The Doctor moved towards the door and looked through the security hole. "Doctor, what are you doing?"
"I'm sorry, I just have to see what it is. I just have to see." He replied and looked at the monster. "Oh, look at you. Oh, you are beautiful. Oh, dear." He whispered gently guiding the Stone in front of him so she could look in.
"Absolutely gorgeous." She whispered.
"Watch it." He warned.
"You're gorgeous as well, sweetheart." She rolled her eyes and kissed his cheek.
He hummed before frowning. "I think it's going after Joe." He said changing the conversation.
They watched as the creature suddenly picked up speed. "Leave him alone!" The Doctor shouted as he ran outside of the room.
"Joe!" He sprinted down the corridor. The Stone quickly followed and stopped at a cross section in the hotel. She frowned and tried to locate the Doctor through their bond but it was no use so she decided to continue running
She then stopped and frowned, turning around and spotted it. The door identical to all the others apart from this one had the number '10' nailed to it. The golden numbers shone in the light of the hotel. "Well..." the Time Lady swallowed hard. "It wouldn't hurt to just take a look." She slowly walked towards it and closed her eyes as her fingers wrapped around the cool bronze metal of the door handle. "Come on." She whispered a small part of her mind hoping that the Doctor, Amy or Rory would run past any moment and stop her.
It didn't happen though, none of them came to stop her and the door slowly opened. The Stones eyes widened when the door uncovered what was in her room.
It was the Doctor, lying on a bed, looking like he was sleeping.
Something wasn't right though, she knew something wasn't correct. Slowly the Time Lady stepped into the room. How was the Doctor her nightmare? They were best friends, two friends who completely trusted each other. It made her frown.
And then she realised what was wrong and why he was her nightmare.
The Doctor was dead.
She didn't spot it at first but in the very corner of the room was her. She was rocking back and forwards her hair covering her face which was tucked into her knees.
"Oh my..." the Time Lady whispered slowly walking towards herself, watching the way her whole body shook, she looked impossibly pale with her eyes red and puffy.
"Stone?" The Doctor called walking down the corridor with Amy and Rory. His eyes widened spotting the open door. "Oh no." He whispered sprinting towards it.
He stopped staring at his Stone as she turned around, tears in her eyes and a hand to her mouth. The Doctor glanced at the Stone on the floor and then moved his eyes to...
Himself?
He suddenly understood what was wrong, the pale lifeless look in his open, empty eyes explained it all. "It's not real." He told her engulfing her in a hug as she quietly sobbed. "I'm here, dear, I'm alive, okay?" He murmured, rubbing her back.
She quietened and he guided her out the room. Amy and Rory quickly walked in the direction they came in, the Time Lords clearly needed some space.
The Doctor darted into another corridor and gently cupped his wife's cheeks, wiping away the stray tears with his thumbs. "It's okay." He whispered soothingly. "I know, Stone, I know."
She slowly nodded and swallowed the lump in her throat. "I just didn't expect that." She shakingly replied.
"If it helps I didn't expect it either." He gave a light shrug.."Want to walk back and talk about it?" He asked, hopeful that she would explain it to him.
"Mhm." She nodded and took his hand, entwining their fingers together. "Did you find Joe?"
"Joe was killed." The Doctor sighed, lowering his head. "Probably by the creature."
"Oh..." she whispered.
"Yeah... so your room?" He asked as they headed back.
"That's what I fear the most." She let out a sigh and looked over at him. "Being the very last of the Time Lords." She swallowed hard. "I know for a time you felt you were the last but I couldn't do that. I couldn't imagine watching you die and having to live alone. Not just without you but without anyone. As selfish as it is I just can't do that."
"Oh, dear." He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer towards him as they neared the restaurant in the hotel. "You have no idea the number of times I was close to-" he cut himself off and shook his head. "But then I met Rose Tyler and honestly the similarities between yourself and her were unbelievable. She helped me in one of my darkest of times."
"I know." The Time Lady chuckled. "Back when I was 'Rita Stone' Rose would tell me all of the adventures you two went on, all the things you had seen with spiky and the you before him."
The Doctor chuckled slightly. "I bet she overexaggerated over half of them adventures."
"Perhaps." The Time Lady nodded. "Then again that tends to happen when you fall in love with a Time Lord whose ego is bigger than the inside of the TARDIS."
"Oi!" He lightly shoved her making the ginger giggle.
They both laughed before it died down and sighed as they neared the restaurant. "I'm never going to leave you, dear." He announced making her frown at him. "You're stuck with me."
"Well, I know that." She replied.
"I know but even when you think I've left you on your own, if anything ever happens I will always come back."
"Me too, sweetheart." She wrapped her arms around him in a hug.
The Doctor smiled and kissed his wife's cheek. "Come on then. Best go and see what these lot are doing."
----------------------------------------------------------------
After finding out what the humans and the Tivoli were up to the Doctor with Rory's help carried Joe's body in a white sheet towards and into the restaurant., They laid him on top of a table, Rory then went off to join Amy, Howie, Gibbs and Rita while the Stone helped the Doctor scan the body
"If we can wedge a chair under the door handles, that should stop anything from getting in." Rory explained to Amy.
"Help yourself to tea." Rita cut in. "Guys, tea over here."
"If it's any consolation, I've met the Weeping Angels, so I know how. In fact, I thought that room was for me." Amy explained to Gibbs who looked shaken up.
"Joe was right," Gibbs muttered. "Whatever it is in here, it actually wants to kill us." He then exclaimed. "Not oppress us or enslave us, kill us!"
"Listen." Amy sighed and looked over at the Time Lords, the Doctor held the Stones' hand and gently rubbed a thumb over the back of her hand as they worked. She really became terrified and there wasn't anything the Doctor could really do to protect her from it.
"The Doctor and the Stone's been part of my life for so long now, and they've never let me down. Even when I thought they had, when I was a kid and they both left me, they came back. Those two saved me. And now they're going to save you. But don't tell the Doctor I said that, because the smugness would be terrifying and the Stone would have to whack him on the back of the head."
"Of course," Gibbs nodded before he frowned, "if the Weeping Angels were meant for me, then your room is still out there somewhere."
"Tea?" Rita walked over to the Time Lords.
"Every time the Doctor gets pally with someone, I have this overwhelming urge to notify their next of kin," Rory muttered before he laughed, his eyes then widened and he flinched away from Amy. "Sorry. The last time I said something like that, you hit me with your shoe. And you literally had to sit down and unlace it first."
"What exactly happened to him?" Rita asked, looking at both the Time Lords
"He died."
"You are a medical doctor, aren't you?" She frowned at the Doctor. "You haven't just got a degree in cheese-making or something."
"No. Well, yes, both, actually. I mean, there is no cause. All his vital organs simply stopped, as if the simple spark of life, his loves and hates, his faiths and fears were just taken," the Doctor then frowned and held up his cup, "and this is a cup of tea."
"Of course, I'm British, it's how we cope with trauma. That and tutting."
"But how did you make it?
RITA: All hotels should have a well stocked kitchen, even alien fake ones. I heard you talking when you arrived. Look, it's no more ridiculous than Howie's CIA theory, or mine."
"Which is?" The Stone raised a brow.
"This is Jahannam."
"You're a Muslim." They nodded.
"Don't be frightened."
"Ha! You think this is Hell."
"The whole '80s hotel thing took me by surprise, though."
"And all these fears and phobias wandering about, most are completely unconnected to us, so why are they still here?"
"Maybe the cleaners have gone on strike."
"Ha! I like you." He pointed at the woman. "I guess people called Rita are just clever." He hummed and glanced at his wife for a moment. "You're a right clever clogs. But this isn't Hell, Rita."
"You don't understand. I say that without fear. Jahannam will play its tricks, and there'll be times when I want to run and scream, but I've tried to live a good life, and that knowledge keeps me sane, despite the monsters and the bonkers rooms. Gibbis is an alien, isn't he?"
"Yeah. Sorry."
"Okay. I'm going to file that under Freak Out About Later."
"Doctor, Stone look at this." Amy walked over to them, holding a note in her hands. "I found it in a corridor, I completely forgot I had it."
The Time Lady frowned and took the note from Amy and read aloud as the Doctor looked over her shoulder. "Umm, my name is Lucy Hayward and I'm the last one left. It took Luke first. It got him on his first day, almost as soon as we arrived. It's funny. You don't know what's going to be in your room until you see it, then you realise it could never have been anything else. I just saw mine. It was a gorilla from a book I'd read as a kid. My God, that thing used to terrify me. The gaps between my worships are getting shorter, like contractions. This is what happened to the others, and how lucky they were. It's all so clear now. I'm so happy. Praise him."
The Doctor looked up. 'Praise him?"
"Praise him." Howie spoke up.
The Time Lorde snapped their heads over to the man and frowned. "What did you just say?" The Doctor questioned.
"Nothing." He shrugged before blurting out: "Praise him!" He then clamped a hand over his mouth.
"This is what happened to Joe!" Gibbs cried out.
"God, it's going to come for me now."
"You'll lead it right here," Gibbs added.
"I won't leave you. I promise you. You have my word on that."
"And I'm not going anywhere either." The Stone added, taking the Doctors hand.
"I don't want to get eaten," Howie begged.
"Calm down."
"He's going to lead the creature right here!" Gibbs shouted.
"Quiet!" The Stone snapped, pointing her sonic upwards, the lights all suddenly went out with only the illumination from the Time Ladies device in the room.
"Way to be dramatic, dear." The Doctor shook his head and bought his screwdriver out to turn the lights back on.
"Don't you see?" Gibbs asked. "He'll lead it right here."
"What do you suggest?" Rita questioned.
"Look, whatever it is out there, it's obviously chosen Howard as its next course. Now, tragic though that is, this is no time for sentiment. I'm saying if it were to find him, it may be satisfied and let the rest of us go. All I want to do is go home and be conquered and oppressed. Is that too much to ask?"
The Stone narrowed her eyes at the Tivoli. The Doctor took his wife's hand and gently squeezed her hand. "It's okay. I'll stay with Howie." Rita spoke up. "You take the others and go."
"No. We stay together."
He headed over to Gibbs after letting go of the Stones hand. "Your civilisation is one of the oldest in the galaxy. Now I see why. Your cowardice isn't quaint, it's sly, aggressive. It's how that gene of gutlessness has survived while so many others have perished. Well, not today. No one else dies today. Right? Brilliant." He smiled before turning to Howie who looked completely terrified. "Howie, any second, it's going to possess you again. When it does, I'm going to ask you some questions. Please try to answer them."
"I hope my mum's all right, she's going to be w, worried. He stuttered, the boys face then relaxed as if there was nothing wrong at all.
"Howie?" The Stone cut in before looking at the Doctor. "It's taken over."
The Doctor nodded at his wife before looking at the human. "Howie. Howie, you're next. We're all dead jealous. So, tell us. How do we get a piece of the action? Why isn't he possessing all of us?"
"You guys have got all these distractions, all these obstacles. It'd be so much easier if you just let it go, you know? Clear the path."
"You want it to find you even though you know what it's going to do?" Amy frowned.
"Are you kidding?" Howie laughed. "He's going to kill us all. How cool is that?"
The Time Lords looked at each other before they looked at the rest of the group and then moved away from the table.
"It's as I thought." The Doctor explained. "It feeds on fear. Everything, the rooms, Lucy's note, even the pictures in reception, has been put here to frighten us. So we have to resist it. Do whatever you have to. Cross your fingers, say a prayer, think of a basket of kittens, but do not give in to the fear."
"Okay, but what are we actually going to do?" Amy asked.
"We're going to catch ourselves a monster."
