The Almost People

The Ganger Doctor suddenly cried out in pain and started to say different things the Doctors previous regenerations had said. "What's happening? I wonder if we'll get back. Yes, one day. Argh. I've reversed the polarity of the neutron flow."

"The Flesh is struggling to cope with our past regenerations." The Doctor explained to the Ganger. "Hold on."

"Would you like a jelly baby?" The Ganger asked in the fourth Doctors voice, holding out a hand to the Time Lady who looked slightly taken back having not heard that voice for centuries. "Why? Why? Why?" He then cried out in Elevens voice again.

"Why what?" The Doctor asked.

The Ganger then straightened up. "Hello. I'm the Doctor." He said as Ten making the Stone look at him slightly worried. "No, let it go, we've moved on."

"Hold on, hold on, you can stabilise."

"I've reversed the jelly baby of the neutron flow." The Ganger said. He gripped onto the Doctor. "Would you like a Doctor, Doctor, I'm, I'm the. I can't." He let go and stumbled back. Amy went to help before she was grabbed by Buzzer.

"No, listen, hold on. Hold on."

"No!" The Ganger Doctor shouted before it went all silent. The only noise being the other Gangers trying to break in.

"I think I liked it best when they were being noisy."

"Mmm hmm." Amy nodded in agreement with Buzzer. "Doctor, Stone," She looked at the two. "We need you. Get over here."

"Hello." The Ganger bright smiled at Amy.

"Doctor, Stone." Amy repeated ignoring the Ganger.

"Cybermats." The Doctor stated looking back at the Ganger, the Stone standing between them looking like she was getting a headache from all of this.

"Do we have time for this?"

"We make time. I'd like more proof that you're me. Cybermats."

"Well, I think you're both the same." The Stone admitted groaning slightly. "You're both giving me a headache."

"You love it dear." The Doctor grinned at the Time Lady. He then gave the ganger Doctor his attention once again. "But I would still like proof so Cybermats."

"Created by the Cybermen. They kill by feeding off brainwaves."

"Are you sure there aren't any weapons you can get to, like big guns with bits on?" Amy asked Buzzer.

"Yeah, big guns would be good right now."

"Why would we have guns?" Jimmy questioned holding the door. "We're a factory. We mine."

There was then a hiss. "Acid."

"Rory and Amy, they may not trust both of us." The Doctor said to his Ganger.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Inevitably."

"I'm glad we're on the same-"

"Wavelength." The Doctor finished making the Stone sigh. "You see, great minds."

"Exactly. So, what's the plan?"

"Save them all, humans and gangers."

"Tall order. Sounds wonderful."

"Is that what you were thinking?" The Doctor grinned. "It's just so inspiring to hear me say it."

"I know."

"Doctor, come on." Amy groaned.

"So, what now, Doctor?" The Ganger asked.

"Well, time to get cracking, Doctor."

"Am I just invisible now?" The Stone sighed.

"Of course not dear." They both grinned before pausing and looking at each other. "Hey!"

"You're both the Doctor." The Stone gave them both a pointed look. "Don't get jealous with yourself."

"But-" both of them started.

"Stop it." She warned raising a finger to both of their lips before kissing them both of the cheek. "Now I really don't like that hissing so I think its best to get out of here."

"Definitely enjoying it." The Ganger nodded at the Doctor as the Stone stepped forward.

"She definitely is." The Doctor agreed with his Ganger. They then stepped forward as well, coming in line with the Time Lady and then linked arms with her. Finally, the two Doctors stepped forward once more dragging her with them.

"Hello." They both greeted the humans. "Sorry, but we had to establish a few ground rules."

"Formulate a protocol." The Doctor started as the Ganger looked over at him slightly surprised.

"Protocol? Very posh." The Ganger Doctor questioned a little impressed now as the Stone sighed having two Doctors talking practically into each ear did actually hurt her head and she wasn't even joking this time. No matter how much she secretly enjoyed it.

"A protocol between us. Otherwise-"

"It gets horribly embarrassing."

"And potentially confusing."

"And not to mention other things..." the Doctor said his voice trailing off as he looked at the Time Lady.

"I'm glad you've solved the problem of confusing." Amy rolled her eyes.

"That's sarcasm."

"She's very good at sarcasm." The Doctor informed his Ganger. "I think it's just something that only happens when you are Scottish or when you have red hair... the Stone is very sarcastic when she wants to be."

"That's just me Doctor."

"Right yes, sorry dear."

"Breathe." The Doctors both told Amy making her step back slightly as they released the Stone's arms.

"What?"

"I think it's time to think of a plan or something." The Stone cut in.

"I agree," Amy said frowning slightly at both the Doctors.

"Yes, we have to get you off this island." The Doctor nodded.

"That also includes the Gangers." The Stone added as the Ganger Doctor pointed at the Time Lady.

"Humans and Gangers together."

"Sorry, would you like a memo from the last meeting?" Cleaves looked at the three in annoyance. "They are trying to kill us!"

"They're scared." The Doctor gave the woman a pointed look.

"Doctor, we're trapped in here."

"Right, See, I don't think so." The Doctor replied. "The Flesh Bowl is fed by cabling from above."

"But where are the earthing conduits?" The Ganger questioned.

"All this piping must go down into a tunnel or a shaft or something." The Stone frowned starting to look around.

"Yes?" The Doctor looked at the humans. "With us?" He continued looking around before spotting a large grate in a wall. "Yowza!" He exclaimed. "An escape route."

The Stone and Amy both looking at each other. The pair mouthing 'Yowza' questioningly as the Doctor smugly smiled.

"You know, I'm starting to get a sense of just how impressive it is to hang out with me."

"Do we tend to say yowza?" The Ganger asked spotting the confused look on the Time Ladys face.

"That's enough, let it go, okay? We're under stress." He quietly replied out of embarrassment. The Stone fondly smiled and patted his cheek quickly kissing it as he flashed his sonic at the grate before allowing her to climb inside. The Ganger Doctor followed next before the humans and then finally the Doctor who flashed his sonic at the grate to lock it back in place just as the Gangers of the humans broke it. The two Cleaves staring at each other for a moment.

  ----------------------------------------------------------------

After they had gotten back onto two feet the group thought of a plan. "The army will send a recon team out." Buzzer explained.

"We need to find a way to contact the mainland," Cleaves informed.

"What about Rory and Jen?" Amy questioned. "They are both out there."

"No, this place is a maze." The Doctor shook his head. "Takes a long time to find someone in a maze. I bet you lot have got a computer map, haven't you?"

"If we can get the power running, we can scan for them. Be a lot quicker."

The group then started to cough. Even the Time Lords and the Ganger were furiously and uncontrollable coughing. "Doctor, you said earlier to breathe."

"Very important, Pond." The Doctor coughed out. "Breathe."

"Yeah, well, I'm struggling to."

"Acid interacting with the stone." The Time Lady managed to cough out. The Doctor put an arm over her pulling her against him allowing her to bury her face in his chest to try and make it easier for her to at least breath.

"Creating an asphyxiant miasma." The Ganger added.

"A what?"

"Choking gas." The Stone muffled as the Doctor nodded.

"Extra heavy. If we can get above it-"

"The evac tower." Cleave cut in. "It's this way." They all followed behind the woman coughing and spluttering as they went.

----------------------------------------------------------------

They reached the Evac tower just as Amy clutched her stomach. The Stone and the two Doctors eyed her worryingly.
Oh. I think I coughed so hard, I pulled a muscle or something." She muttered as their hearts all sank knowing it was most likely not the coughing. "It's okay, it's better. It's easing off." She slowly nodded a moment later.

A church bell nearby then began to ring and Jimmy looked up. "It's midnight." He faintly smiled. "It's Adam's birthday. My son's five. Happy birthday, bud."

"I bet he has a great birthday." The Stone smiled a little. It was never customary for Time Lords to celebrate all of their birthdays. They believe it was something lesser races did but she always did enjoy it when she and the Doctor celebrated, even if it was something only they did on Gallifrey, their little secret that they kept alive right up until they were separated due to the Time War. The Stone softly smile remembering when the Doctor had brought a cake into the Library for her first birthday when she returned back onto the TARDIS with the Tenth Doctor.

The Time Lady even celebrated it for her own children when their father wasn't home. It was hard for them to understand that it was something they kept a secret from their father until they were older and eventually grew out of the yearly celebration unlike the two best friends, still in their tradition hundreds of years later.

The Stone slightly shook her head moving around the console of the evac tower to help to Doctors with the wires, trying to get the console to work as the humans tried to use it. The Doctors who were very much enjoying each others company kept bobbing up and down as they spoke.  The Stone watched them curiously for a moment as they both switched places and shoes. "We need to find out if he is real." The Doctor reminded the Time Lady, placing the shoes that the Ganger had just given him on.

"Doctor he is. I know he is and I know you better than anyone."

"You know that dear but the humans might not believe us plus it helps us understand them."

"As long as it isn't just to protect me." The Time Lady grinned.

"You never know.' The Ganger winked at the Time Lady, guessing what she had said to the Doctor.

The Time Lord chuckled shaking his head for a moment before going back to the wires. "Doctor there's no power." Amy then spoke up from the other side of the console.

"Oh, there's always some power floating around." The Ganger said popping up.

"Sticking to the wires, like bits of lint." The Doctor popped up just as the Ganger went back down grinning at the Time Lady for a moment before he kissed her cheek.

"Can you stop finishing each other's-"

"Sentences?" The Doctor cut in. "No probs."

"Yes." The Ganger grinned again.

The Stone also stood up in between the Time Lords.

"No, hang on." Any frowned suddenly remembering. "You said that the TARDIS was stuck in acid, so won't she be damaged?"

"Nah, she's a tough old thing. Tough, old, sexy."

"Tough, dependable, sexy." The Ganger smirked and then looked at the Stone. "I know someone else who is all three of those.

The Stone smirked a little at the Ganger. "Oh really?" She then looked at the Doctor. "Definitely you sweetheart." The Stone chuckled then kissed the Gangers cheek.

"Did you-" The Doctor looked at her.

"Did I?" She raised a brow.

"Did you just flirt with him." He pointed between his Ganger and his wife.

"So?" She shrugged.

"So?" He repeated sounding slightly annoyed.

The Stones face softened slightly seeing what was now up with the Time Lord. Without saying a word she reached across and cupped his left cheek with her hand. "He's you just as much as you are him, remember? You're both the Doctor to me and always will be."

The Doctor smiled a little and lightly kissed her quietly whispering his love for her while the Ganger smiled at them both. Even if it technically wasn't him kissing her she still had basically admitted that she trusted them both and loved them. It definitely warmed his hearts.

"Come on." Amy slightly rolled her eyes at the three. "Stone they can't both be real can they?" She looked at the Time Lady and then looked between the Doctors. "How can you both be real?"

"Well, because we are." The Ganger nodded. "I'm the Doctor."

"Yeah and so am I." The Doctor added. "We both contain the knowledge of over nine hundred years of memory and experience. We both wear the same bow tie, which is cool." He grinned.

"Because bow ties are-

"And always will be."

"Not to mention." The Ganger grinned.

"We also have the wife." The Doctor added. They both then kissed the Time Lady's cheek at the same time making her chuckle at their antics.

"But how did the Flesh read you?" Amy asked. "Because you weren't linked up to it."

"Well, it must've been after I examined it." He shrugged. "Thus, a new, genuine Doctor was created."

"Ta-da." They both popped back down going to fix the wires again.

"No getting away from it." Amy crossed her arms. "One of you was here first."

"Well, okay." The Doctor popped up. "After the Flesh scanned me, I had an accident with a puddle of acid." He explained the console hiding what was the footwear he had swapped with the Ganger. "Now, new shoes. A situation which did not confront me learned self here."

"That satisfy you, Pond?" The Ganger asked.

"Don't call me Pond, please." She turned away from him making the Doctors and the Stone frown at her. "What?"

"Interesting." The Ganger hummed. "You definitely feel more affection for him than me."

"No, no, I." she shook her head before she signed. "Look, you're fine and everything, but he's the Doctor. No offence. Being almost the Doctor is pretty damn impressive."

"Being almost the Doctor's like being no Doctor at all." The Ganger replied slightly hurt.

"Don't overreact." Amy lightly laughed.

"You might as well call me Smith."

"Smith?"

"John Smith." He then said. The two Doctors then went back down to finish the wires. Switching positions once more so that Amy and the humans would not realise that who they thought was the Ganger was actually the Doctor.

"Yes!" The Doctor grinned. "Communication a go-go."

Cleaves moved over to the console to start to type into it. The Time Lords and ganger then walked around to watch.

"Find Rory!" The redheaded human exclaimed. "Show me the scanning tracking screen. Come on, Rory, let's be having you."

"There's no sign of him anywhere." Cleaves shook her head.

"Come on. Come on, baby, show yourself."

"Saint John's calling. Emergency Alpha." Cleaves said into the comm. "Saint John's calling the mainland. Are you receiving me, Captain? Come in." She shook her head and moved away from the comm for a moment. "We'll never get a signal through this storm. Saint John's calling the mainland. Come in, this is urgent."

"We're just about reading you, Saint John's." The captain responded. "How are you doing? We've had all kinds of trouble here."

"Request immediate evacuation. We're under attack. The storm's affected our Gangers. They're running amok."

"Your Gangers?" The captain repeated.

"Yes, our Gangers are attacking us. We need you to take us off the island immediately and wipe them out." The Time Lords shared a slightly worried look with the Doctors Ganger.

"Copy that, Saint John's." The captain replied. "Shuttle's despatched. Hang on."

"You'll need to airlift us off the roof of the evac tower," Cleaves said. "And Captain, any further transmission sent by me must come with the following codeword." She began to type it into the console. "I'm typing it, in case they're listening in."

The woman then hit send just ad the captain replied. "Got it. We'll swing in, get you out and decommission the Flesh."

"We've got to get out of here." Buzzer said to the others. "We are, we're going to get out."

"We're not leaving without them," Amy replied. The Doctor said nothing as his Ganger picked up a phone.

"I want them found too, but it's about casualties, innit?" Buzzer said to her just as the Stone lightly frowned at the idea. "Can't be helped."

"What are you doing?" Amy asked the Doctor.

"Making a phone call."

"Who to?"

"No one yet." The Doctor handed the Time Lady the phone who had noticed the Doctors eyes dark as he watched Amy. A frown on his face. She trusted his Ganger because she thought he was the Time Lord. "It's on delay."

"Right." Amy said before sighing as she admitted: "Not getting it. Why exactly are you making a phone call?"

"Because, Amy, the Stone and I are and always will be the optimists." The Ganger replied. "The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams." He then lightly spun her around. The redheaded human giggled slightly before she noticed the Doctor with his arms crossed on his chest. "The wheels are in motion. Done."

She gave him a dark look almost matching his but nowhere near as deadly as the time lords before she pushed her chair to look at the Stone and the Ganger Doctor. "You know really there can be only one."

"Hmm?" The Ganger questioned as Amy gave him a disapproving look. "Oh, nothing. Carry on. Be amazing." She shrugged off before the human woman frowned slightly her eyes shifting away from the other ginger who was currently watching her, Amy looked passed her, her eyes fixed on a wall she stood up slowly stepping closer to it before she gasped slightly and stepped back. The Stone and the Doctor shared a look knowing what was wrong with her.

"Amy?" The Ganger asked. "What happened?"

"It's her again."

"It's who again?" The Stone questioned. They needed to know who it was that had taken her and put her in a flesh avatar.

"There's a woman I keep seeing. A woman with an eyepatch and she has this habit of sliding walls open and staring at me." She explained. "Doctor? Stone?"

"It's nothing." The Ganger lied.

"Doesn't seem like nothing."

"It's a time memory." He explained. "Like a mirage. It's nothing to worry about."

The Ganger Doctor quietly winced and the Stone looked at him curiously wondering what was wrong. The Doctor clearly felt it too perhaps stronger than the Ganger who had the Stone rubbing soothing circles on his back. The Doctor then left as Jimmy shouted for him to come back: "Hey, hold on." The Stone stood up to go and help him.

"Don't let him go," Cleaves ordered.

"No, leave it to me," Amy told the Time Lady who frowned slightly as she watched the human leave to follow the Time Lord.

The Stone groaned slightly her head actually feeling slight presser now. It was like the flesh had somehow managed to get her through the telepathic link she shared with the Doctor.

"Why?" The Ganger swallowed hard as Amy burst in looking horrified with the Doctor following.

She pointed at the Time Lord who looked helpless. "Keep him away from me."

"Did you sense it?" The Doctor asked the Ganger. Knowing fully well that he sensed it before and much stronger than he did. The Doctors had to keep their cover secure therefore, the Doctor bursting out like that was good cover while the Stone comforted the Ganger.

"Briefly." The Ganger lied. "Not as strong as you."

"Amy, I'm sorry." The Doctor tried to apologise.

"No, you keep away." She ordered stepping back. The Stone stood up sensing it was best to stand between them. The Ganger, however, grasped her wrist and slowly shook his head making her slowly return to her seat. "We can't trust you."

"It would appear I can connect to the Flesh." The Doctor frowned.

"You are Flesh." Amy corrected.

"I'm beginning to understand what it's been through, what it needs."

"What you want. You are it."

"It's much more powerful than we thought." He continued to ignore the redheaded human. "The Flesh can grow, correct?"

"Its cells can divide," Cleaves answered.

"Well, now it wants to do that at will." The Doctor explained. "It wants revenge. It's in pain, angry. It wants revenge."

"I was right." Amy narrowed her eyes at the Doctor. "You're not the Doctor. You can't ever be. You're just a copy."

"And how would you know that Amy?" The Stone questioned standing up. The human woman turned around to look at the Time Lady. "Are you trying to say that the Doctor doesn't get angry?" She laughed slightly at the thought. "Trust me I know he gets angry I know him the best and more than anyone. We're Time Lords and we have been through a lot in the centuries we have lived much longer than you have and with so much more hatred." She let out a small breath and turned away from her, now quietly speaking in a much softer tone than before. "After living as long as we have you just learn how to keep your anger in." Her eyes then flickered to the Doctor, who was looking down until his eyes met hers. They both gave each other a small smile. "Sometimes..." She finished in a murmur. The Time Lady then sat down beside the Doctors Ganger who let her lean against him, her head on his shoulder for a moment as he kissed the top of her head.

"Doctor." Cleaves then spoke up looking at the Time Lord who was supposedly the Ganger, remembering what happened before the Stones speech. "It might be best if you stayed over there for now, hmm?"

"Hold on a minute, hold your horses." The Ganger Doctor stood up looking between the Time Lord and Cleaves. "I thought I'd explained this. I'm him, he's me."

"Doctor, we have no issue with you, but when it comes to your Ganger-" Cleaves looked at the Ganger. Not even she had a clue and she had been around the Flesh much longer than any of the others most likely did.

"Don't be so absurd." The Ganger cut in.

"Buzzer." Cleaves nodded at the man.

"Sure, boss." He picked up a barrel and then walked to the opposite side of the room, setting it down. "Take a seat, mate." Buzzer instructed the Ganger who was really the Doctor. The Doctor shared a look with the Time Lady slightly smiling.

"Nice barrel, very comfy." The Doctor lightly brushed it before sitting on it. "Why not? Is this really what you want?"

A few seconds later a voice, most likely one of the pilots to pick up the group came throug. "This is the shuttle. We're right above you, but we can't get low enough. Gamma static could fry our nav-controls. Sit tight. We'll get to you. Just-" it then cut out. The Ganger brought of the Doctors sonic and scanned Cleaves.

"Hello?" Jimmy spoke into the comms. "Can you hear me?"

Amy sighed in defeat and shook her head. "I can't find Rory. I'm going out there."

"We could use the sonic to track him." The Ganger announced not looking at the human as he checked the reading on the screwdriver. "Humans and Gangers give off slightly different signals. The sonic needs to tell the difference."

"Oh, so the sonic knows Gangers are different." Amy rolled her eyes. "The other Doctor is different."

"He is the Doctor." The Stone corrected.

"Not to me." The other redhead crossed her arms. "I can tell."

"So you can supposedly tell but my wife who has been my best friend for over nine centuries apparently can't?" The Ganger glared. The look was then wiped from his face and replaced with a single raised eyebrow. "Sure you're not prejudiced?"

"Nice try, but I know, okay?" She protested pausing for a moment. "He might also be her Doctor but we've been through too much. You're my Doctor. End of."

The Stone sighed knowing it was no point. There was no way Amy was going to listen to her now. A couple of minutes later a screen stopped fizzing and lit up showing Rory and Jennifer

"Hey, there's a camera up." Buzzer announced. "We've got a visual."

"That's Rory and Jennifer." Amy pointed out.

"They're heading for the thermostatic room," Cleaves announced.

"Let's go get them," Amy announced and then watched as the Ganger tossed the screwdriver over to the Doctor who caught it.

"Hang on."

"We can't let him go," Cleaves stated. "Are you crazy?"

"Am I crazy, Doctor?" The Ganger asked.

"Well, you did want to plug your brain into the core of an entire planet just to halt its orbit and win a bet."

"Excuse me?" The Stone crossed her arms having never heard this before.

"Oops..." Both Doctors said looking at each other. "Sorry dear."

"We're having words when you get back." She pointed at the Time Lord. She could sense the Ganger smirking behind her. "And don't you think you got away scot-free either sweetheart. She said without turning around. "Those words include both of you." Hearing the Doctor behind her swallow hard she smiled turning around and kissing his cheek.

"He can't go rescue them." Amy looked at the Time Lady as if she was mad. "I'm going."

The Ganger then stood up matching his height up to Amy's. If she was going to now ignore the Stone he had to make sure she remembered who the Time Lady was. "Do you know, I want him to go. And I'm rather adamant."

"Well then, he'll need company." Buzzer said. "Right, boss? It's fine. I'll handle it."

"I'll go with him." The Stone said walking over.

"Thank you, Buzzer. It'll be all right." The Doctor nodded ignoring the Time Lady for a moment. nodded. "I'll find him."

"Doctor." The Stone warned.

"I want you here." He protested nodding at his Ganger. "With him."

The Time Lady smirked, speaking aloud. "This isn't because I threatened to have a talk with you is it?"

"Possibly." He hummed.

"You know no matter how much you give me those eyes I'm still giving it to you."

"I know." He sighed lightly kissing her for a moment. "Look after Amy." He whispered tightly hugging her before leaving. Buzzer following.

"Can't explain it to you now, but I need you to trust him." The Ganger said to Amy as the Stone walked over to join them. "Can you do that for me, Amy?"

"And what if you're wrong?"

"I trust him with my wife." Was all he replied.
