Curse of the Black Spot - Two
"There's nothing wrong with the boy," Avery said talking up to the Time Lords. "He has no scars."
"Yep. Ignore my last theory." The Doctor nodded while the Stone frowned.
"He has his good days and his bad days," Amy whispered to the captain.
"So it's not just blood, she's coming for all the sick and wounded." The Stone said while the Doctor nodded in agreement.
"Exactly like how a hunter chooses the weakest animal."
"Okay, look, he's got a fever." Amy cut in. " The siren knows it.
"Humans." The Doctor hummed. "Second-rate. Damage too easily. It's only a matter of time before everyone gets bruised." He then put an arm around the Stone's waist before pointing to her and then himself. "Our ship, it can sail us all away from here. You and us, we fetch it. Let's go."
Avery stood up in the Time Lords way, bringing out his gun and holding it in front of the Doctors face.
"You're not the Captain here, remember."
They heard the siren hiss and saw an arm appear out of the barrel Toby had just opened, "no!" The Doctor and Stone cried out running past Avery and working together, using both of their strength to push the lid of the barrel back down.
"The water's dangerous." Avery scolded his son. "That's how she gets through. One touch of her hand and you're a dead man."
"We're all cursed if we stay aboard."
The Stone shook her head. "It's not a curse."
"Curse means game over." The Doctor added. "Curse means we're helpless. We are not helpless. Captain, what's our next move?"
Avery stared at the Doctor for a moment before nodding. "You said you have a ship?"
"That we do." The Doctor grinned.
"But you two can't go." Amy shook her head. "The siren is out there."
"And we're not hurt or sick."
"But he's the clumsiest person I know." Amy nodded at the Doctor.
"Hey!"
"And I'm with him." The Stone reminded ignoring the Doctors whines. "You honestly think I'll let something hurt my husband Amy?"
"No..." she quietly replied.
"Well then." The Stone grinned linking her arm through the Doctors.
"Wait with the boy."
"Captain, we're all in danger here." Boatman the sailor protested.
"I said wait," Avery repeated giving the man an annoyed look, "and barricade the door after we've gone."
"Sure you want to go?" Amy asked them both for the last time.
"We have to get Rory and Toby away." The Doctor said sighing, he didn't want to exactly do this, especially with the Stone with him but he didn't have a choice in the matter. Rule 0.1: Never disagree with a Time Lady, especially if it's your wife. "She's out there now, licking her lips, boiling a saucepan, grating cheese."
"Okay." Amy nodded. "Well, remember, if you get an itch, don't scratch too hard."
"We've all got to go sometime. There are worse ways than having your face snogged off by a dodgy mermaid."
The Stone snorted as Amy gave him an odd look. The Doctor glanced at his wife, "erm, I mean-"
"No, no." The Time Lady chuckled. "That was funny sweetheart." The Doctor grinned and they both followed Avery out of the magazine room and onto the mess deck.
"Do you want to draw lots for who's in charge, then?" Avery asked.
"Darkness? Demon?" The Doctor lightly hit Avery's stomach. "You can have first go."
The three slowly continued walking try to be careful to not harm themselves, Avery then stumbled and almost had a nail in his hand, luckily the Doctor grabbed the man back pulling him back upright as the Stone took hold of his wrist, the three of them let out a deep sigh.
"Nearly," Avery muttered lightly nodding at them both, thankful that they had managed to stop him.
The Doctor lightly patted his arm in reply and decided to put his arm around the Time Lady, feeling that it would calm him down if he had her beside him. Soon after they arrived at the TARDIS, the Doctor ran in and jumped up the stairs with the Stone, twirling her around before grinning.
"By all the-"
"Let me stop you there." The Doctor spun back around, cutting the pirate captain right off while slightly smirking at the shocked look on the man's face. "Bigger on the inside. Don't mind, do you, if we just skip to the end of that moment? Oh, and sorry I lied, by the way, when I said yours was bigger." He laughed before pointing around to the stairs leading to the other areas and the halls. "Kitchen that way. Choice of bathrooms there, there, there"
"Showing off, here." The Stone pointed at the Doctor who pouted momentarily before shaking his head.
"Dear?"
"Oh, you are so lazy." She shook her head while walking around the console, standing in front of the typewriter and starting to type what they were looking for.
"Thank you." He quietly replied, dragging out the words as he walked around the console and kissed her cheek before moving the scanner slightly so she could see it better.
"What's this do?" Avery curiously asked pointing to one of the devices on the console.
"That does very, very complicated." He nodded before hitting a bell. "That does sophisticated. That does whoa, amazing," he pointed at something else. "And that does whizz, bang, far too technical to explain!"
"Wheel?" Avery guessed pointing at another control.
"Atom accelerator." Both Time Lords correct the Stone able to see out of the corner of her eye.
"It steers the thing." He deadpanned.
"No." The Doctor denied. "Sort of."
"Yes." The Stone nodded "it 'steers' the TARDIS."
"Wheel. Telescope." He pointed. "Compass. A ship's a ship." The Stone sighed as the Doctor blinked.
"Oh." The Doctor blinked.
"I agree." The Stone raised a brow. "Definitely 'oh'."
"Anyways." The Doctor smugly grinned. "This is how the professionals do it." He then pulled down a lever and looked up to watch the time rotor move only to see it stutter.
"Or not." The Stone snorted while the Doctor pouted at her.
"Er, it's stuck." He frowned. "Not responding."
"Becalmed?" Avery said.
"Mmm hmm." The Doctor nodded. "Yeah, apparently. That's new. You had to gloat, didn't you?" He questioned the man.
"I'm not gloating."
"I saw that look just now." The Doctor pressed on. "Ha, ha, their ship is rubbish."
"True."
"Please don't argue." The Stone groaned. "I'm sure the TARDIS doesn't want you arguing over her."
"You're right." The Doctor nodded lightly touching the console. "Sorry old girl, sorry dear." He apologised to them both before typing on the typewriter. "It can't get a lock on the plane."
"The what?" Avery questioned.
The space we travel in." The Doctor informed.
"Sort of like the ocean in a sense." The Stone added as the Doctor nodded in agreement.
"Sort of ocean but not water." He cut in. "The TARDIS can't see. It's sulking because it thinks the space doesn't exist." The Stone sighed lightly patting the time rotor. Feeling the light buzzing feeling and hum of the TARDIS beneath her fingertips, tickling them right to the palm of her hand, knowing full well that the Time Lady sympathised with the machine, it would be a lie to say that she had a deeper connection with the magnificent time machine then the Doctor, but truthfully they were both women and understood how painful it was to have the Doctor who constantly insisted that he was right no matter what, especially when they both could tell he wasn't.
The Stone lightly shook her head knowing exactly what the machine would say to the Doctor if it could actually talk; truth be told it couldn't only a light hum here and there which both Time Lords knew was most likely just parts that needed to be fixed or replacing. It was nice to believe that they could communicate with her, the TARDIS though. "Without a plane to lock onto we're not going anywhere." The Doctor said after looking at Avery once more.
"I'm confused." He frowned as if he hadn't even got to grips with the small blue box actually being bigger on the inside than it was on the outside.
"Yeah, well, it's a big club." The Doctor remarked walking towards him. "We should get T-shirts."
"Sweetheart I'm not having a T-shirt that matches yours, not with your dress sense anyway."
"Because yours is way better." He rolled his eyes momentarily glancing up and down at the Time Lady before lightly snorting at the red and black combo in her outfit, not a single item being other than red or black unless it was a small insignificant thing.
Suddenly the TARDIS jolted causing the smile on the Doctors face to fall as he frowned looking at the Time Lady wondering if she had done anything. "What's happening?"
"I didn't do anything." The Stone protested as the Doctor moved around the console to meet the Time Lady at the scanner, Avery watched them both as the Doctor read off the Gallifreyan on it. "Okay, she's had her little sulk. Now she's heading for the full-on screaming tantrum."
"Can you fix it?" Avery asked as the TARDIS jolted again almost throwing all three to the glass floor. The Doctor let out a groan as he stopped himself from falling. "The parametric engines are jammed. Orthogonal vector's gone. I'm almost out of ideas."
"Almost?" Avery repeated.
"Well, we could try stroking her and singing her a song."
"I don't think that will work." The Stone winced as the TARDIS shook again, the Doctor managing to wrap his arm around her back to stop her from falling as he grabbed hold of the console as well. "I really don't know."
"Will, that help?" Avery asked.
"Hard to say. Never has before." The Doctor gritted out. "We've lost control of her." He then said slightly panicked seeing the time rotor start to move. "She's about to dematerialise. We could end up anywhere!"
"That sounds bad!"
"Yes, it is!" The Stone shouted already pulling the Doctor to the doors. "Out!"
"Out now!" The Doctor cried pushing Avery as they went while the console sparked. "Abandon ship! Abandon ship!"
The TARDIS then dematerialised as the three ran out. The Doctor swallowed hard putting his arms around the Stone, holding her close knowing that the TARDIS could be anywhere, leaving them both stranded. "Okay, okay, okay." He quietly muttered repeatedly kissing her hair. "TARDIS runs off on its own. That's a bit of a new one. Bang goes our only hope of getting them out of here."
"Not much of a Captain without a ship, are you?" Avery questioned.
"Oh, the Stone always has been the Captain." He grinned.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Doctor, Stone and Avery made their way back through the ship, trying to get back before something happened to them or before they were gone for too long. They skidded to a stop the Doctor making sure he was in front of the Stone as they met Mulligan one of Avery's sailors on the mess deck, a pistol on each hand pointing at the three while he had a jewelled gold crown around his wrist.
"Mulligan, what are you doing? This is mutiny."
"She doesn't want me. She only wants Toby and the scrawny looking fellow." He protested moving around them while still keeping his the guns pointed at them before making a run for it.
"He's got the last of the supplies." The Doctor said to Avery. "We should go after him."
"Never mind the damned supplies." Acey snapped. "What about my treasure?"
The Time Lords followed Avery only to duck as Mulligan shot at them.
"Don't get injured." The Doctor muttered. "Don't get injured."
"That is a very good idea sweetheart." The Stone replied in a slightly harsher tone making the Doctor wince as they carefully carried on following the sailor and Avery.
"Come out of there, you mutinous dog!" Avery shouted through the door where Mulligan ran as the Time Lords caught up.
The Sirens song then began, the Doctor looked up and around before he checked himself over while Avery did the same, The Stone more worried about the Doctor than herself as she checked his arms before he stopped checking himself and checked her before sighing and kissing her forehead knowing that it wasn't either of them. He then frowned once more and looked down as light then shone under the door showing that she was indeed inside.
"She's inside." The Stone muttered.
"She's come for Mulligan."
They heard Mulligan cry out before the glow disappeared, quickly the three moved into the small room before they looked in confusion seeing it bone dry. "No water in here. How did she take him?" He looked at the Doctor. "You said she uses water like a door, that's how she enters a room." Avery then picked up the crown as the Doctors eyes widened realising what was actually allowing the siren to arrive.
"I was wrong." The Doctor murmured shaking his head. "Please ignore all my theories up to this point."
"What, again?" Avery blinked.
The Stone shook her head. "We're all in danger. The water's not how she's getting in."
"When we were down in the hold, think what happened." The Doctor tried to explain. "You, me, Amy, Rory, leeches."
"She sprang from the water."
"Yes, only when it grew still. Still water." The Stone added. "Nature's mirror."
"So, you mean-" he looked at them.
"Yes." The Doctor nodded. "Not water, reflection."
"That siren legend." The Doctor said. "The Curse."
"You said curses weren't real."
"Folklore springs from truth." The Doctor said. "She attacks ships filled with treasure. Where else do you get a perfect reflection?"
"Polished metal." His eyes widened in realisation as he hid the crown under a piece of cloth.
"We must warn them."
