Chapter 2
I woke up, still wanting to stay in bed, but I forced myself up. I went into a nearby small room with a water area. It was basically a bath tub, and it was full of water. Greyson, I thought, he did this, he's so nice! We have to go above ground to get water, or go to a water hole down here, but it's hard to navigate. I quickly took a bath. After I got out the water was quickly absorbed by the mud. It's a special mud, that once pressure was put on it, it would soak up anything for two minutes. Went over to a broke piece of glass and fixed my hair into a side French braid. I walked out of the small room, into my bedroom, I changed into a green shirt, and camo shorts. I put my dirty clothes in the bath tub, made of mud. The mud will suck the dirt and germs of them in a matter of seconds. I get them after a minute, and lay the on a wood table. I left my room and noticed everyone was up. I went into the dinning room and saw some of the hunters. Their the ones who get the food for all us. I walked over to them and patted them on the back. Even though their much bigger than me, they respect me, highly. They smiled at me. I walked over and got a rabbit leg. I ate up quickly, and the rabbit leg and juice filled my sumach. I saw Greyson playing with a old coin on the other side of the room. I walked over to him, and waved. He waves back. "First we need Gillion leaves," I say to him. "Gillion leaves?" He repeats. I nod. "To charge the Omega Machine," I explained. Greyson nodded. "Wanna help?" I asked. I came out as I question but what I wanted to say was, "Come on. Let's go look." Greyson nodded. "Not much of a morning person, are we?" I giggled. Greyson slowly shook his head. We stand up and exit the room. We walked down the hall, to where me and Ashley had talked last night. We climbed up the rock wall, and pushed through the bushes at the top. They were there to hide The Hopes main entrance. "Where can we find them?" Greyson asked, sleepily. "At the river," I replied, "so that's where we're going." "Keep your voice down, they might hear us," Greyson whispered. I nodded, and we headed west, away from town. "So, how do we get the leaves?" Greyson asked in a hushed voice. "It's really a fungus," I say, "When the fish come to some age, the fungus grows leaves out of their gills, and takes control of their body." Greyson made a sick looking face, and I giggled. We came up to a river. The raging river, was crystal clear. Some of The Hopes hunters, were fishing, or teaching new recruits how to tie a not to make a net. New recruits are usually rouge hunters. They are hunters, who aren't in The Hope, but resist the Panbems. Most we meet, agree to join The Hope, but others want to stay alone. I walk over to Bystuyu, a hunter. "Any Gillion leaves yet?" I ask her. "Nope, chief. Not yet. Why?" She asked. "For the Omega Machine," I whisper. Bystuyu turned around to a new recruit. "That's the girl I was talking about," she said to a boy. He had blond hair, freckles, and fair skin. I waved, and he waved back, shyly. Me and Greyson walked over to the river, and we bent down on our knees. I saw a fish, with leaves. It passed by me right as I pointed to it. Webeni, a hunter caught it. "Can I have that? Just the leaves?" I asked. Webeni nodded and handed me a handful of leaves. "One more fish, with this much and we'll be good," I say to Greyson. It took a hour, but we had enough leaves. The hour, was long, and quiet, with only the river and small chat, to keep us away from the verge of silence. My mind fluttered away, to keep me from boredom. That boy is cute, I thought. I quickly erased the thought, though. We walked back to the main entrance and climbed down. "Thanks," I said to Greyson. "No problem," he says, pushing a loose stand of hair behind my ear. I giggled. Even though he's not the much older than me, he sure knows how to make me laugh. I looked into his eyes. The pieces of glass were still there! I narrowed my eyes, trying to get a better look. "What's wrong?" Greyson asked. "That stuff in your eyes! Their moving!" I yelled. Even though Greyson doesn't feel them, he knows they're there. "Wait... Your just shaking?" I sighed, "Why are you shaking?" Then I realized, I was shaking, also. Greyson pointed at the main entrance. "Air change... In temperature," I say. I stop shaking, and say good bye. I walked to my room, the Gillion leaves in my hand. When people hear "The Omega Machine" they usually think, a huge contraption, or ray gun. It's really just a tube, that will get rid of any kind of bacteria on a surface. The Panbems are a collection of bacteria and other organisms. I know that because, my dad found one behind our house -before the takeover- and studied it. Of course it was already dead. We aren't the monsters here! They are! I mashed up the Gillion leaves, with a black rock. Soon the leaves, were turned to paste. I walked over to a built in shelf. Broken glass say on top. I have collected the glass over the year of the Panbems take over. I carefully stuck the pieces of glass with mud. I stuck the mush in the tube. "One step down," I say, "five more to go."
