Your POV

2045

Reaching over to my alarm as it ruined my sleep with its wretched noise. Letting my arm fall limp for a moment before sighing heavily, trying my best to blink the sleepiness away. Rolling over to my back, grabbing my phone before turning it on and unlocking it. Scrolling through some of the notifications, mostly consisting of people that I've never spoken to before. Many of them were the very people I've shared my school years with, the same ones that ignored me most of the time.

Sitting up and getting dressed for the day, grabbing the same bag that went with me to the 30s. Hopping down the steps while putting the bag on, I did some patchwork for it so I could hopefully get a few more miles out of it before having to retire it, being surprised that it didn't turn to dust after the years of it being in the hiding spot, another being that it wasn't found beforehand.

Turning the corner and poking my head into the kitchen, on the search for my Mom. Only for her to not be in the kitchen, humming gently before spinning on my heels and making my way towards her office. Knocking right before opening it, seeing her turn from her monitor and look at me.

"Morning hun"

"Hey Mom, I just wanted to let you know I was heading to the library."

Giving a single nod and a smile, raising her arm, and waving her hand, telling me to give her a hug. Giving my best sarcastic sigh, walking into the room, and hugging her. Feeling her plant a kiss on my cheek before letting me go.

"Don't give me that sigh, I haven't been able to even see you, let alone be able to hug you for the last couple of months."

"Hey, you're just mad that my sarcastic sigh is better than yours. I'm only going to the library, Mom."

Giving me a nod before sending on my way, turning towards the door, closing it gently after getting into the hall, heading towards the front door before leaving. Stepping into the front step, closing the door behind me.

Making my way down the sidewalk, the sound of sand rubbing against my shoe soles while walking down the small concrete path. Looking around a little while making my way towards the large building.

Being sure that there was something about 1931 that made me feel more at home. There's always been a lot of noise and bright lights where I live. The time I met Emmett however, is the complete opposite. There were hardly any lights on at night, with the sound of crickets being heard on a late walk. Much like the one Emmett and I went on.

Getting into the library, making my way up to the receptionist to see if they could help point me in the right direction.

"Good morning, do you have any documents on anyone from the 1930s? Like house deeds, marriage licenses, death certificates, things like that."

"We have house deeds and marriage licenses, but you may need to go to the courthouse to get the birth and death certificates. Since it has to be at least 100 years before those can be released to the public."

Nodding gently before humming, letting them go back to what they were doing before. Making my way to the legal document section, sitting at a computer since all of the older files were put on the server. Making it a lot easier to hunt them down, and I could transfer the information to the small tablet next to me, and it would help me find what I needed via chips in the documents and a receiver in the tablet. Like a game of hot and cold for knowledge.

Finding the birth certificate I needed, tells me that Emmett's birthday was in 1914. Making him 17 when we met. Finding the death certificate and pulling it out, reading that he died of natural causes in 2000. He died at the age of 86.

Looks like he had a long life of wondering why you never came back to see him.

I didn't want to leave the way I did, it wasn't my fault.

So many questions that he never got the answers to.

Shaking the head inside away with a sigh, flipping through the book that was in front of me. Not seeing any marriage certificates, feeling my heart sink at the thought of him being alone. Flicking through a few more pages, a copy of his will in the pages. Reading it for a moment, seeing that it mentioned someone named Marty McFly. Tilting my head for a moment, looking at it before trying to find out who this Marty was.

Once I found his papers I found he was a teenager that was friends with Emmett later in his life. Smiling gently that he found a friend, someone he would be able to share his experiments with. Finding a birth certificate for Martin Seamus McFly. Seeing that he was born in 1968, and doing some quick math, he would be around 77 years old. Feeling my heart pound for a second, thinking about the idea of going to tell Marty that I knew Emmett when he was a teen. Though doubting he would take me seriously since I'm still the same.

Putting everything away and leaving the library, heading towards the cemetery that's on the outside of town. After a short walk and standing under the gate for the cemetery, sighing gently before walking inside and walking along the rows, trying to find Emmett. After finding the headstone and verifying with the birthday and day of death, knowing it was him. Sitting on the end of the plot, looking at his headstone for a moment, a gentle breeze coming through the cemetery. Pulling the wool jacket closer, wrapping myself in it a little more.

"Emmett, I know that I disappeared on you after agreeing to meet at the diner. I'm sorry that I was pulled back to the time I was from. I shouldn't have hidden it from you that I had traveled over 100 years into the past, that was when I met you."

Fiddling with my hands for a moment before giving a shaky sigh, my heart thumping in my chest and my eyes starting to water. Wiping my face a little after a second before releasing a sniffle.

"I wish I never left like I did, if I hadn't gotten curious about what you were doing at the gazebo, you wouldn't have been left with so many questions. Emmett, I hope you can forgive me for what happened. I didn't mean to disappear, and I was really looking forward to working on the projects with you."

Pausing once more, pulling the time device from my pocket for a second, looking at it before raising my hand and throwing it, only for it to go off and put me in a different point in time. Looking at the headstone, that now wasn't there. Being confused for a moment, grabbing the device and standing before making my way out of the cemetery, now I had to figure out what when I was now.
