Chapter 5: Back To The Future
(923 words)
Your POV
Waking up in the spot that I had fallen asleep in, sitting up and yawning a little, before looking around. Raising my brow while teaching for my bag, seeing a cloud of dust come off of it. Releasing a small cough before brushing my hands clean, grasping for the zipper, and opening the bag. Seeing the clothes, and snacks that were tattered and the food is expired. Pulling out one of the snacks, looking for the expiration date, seeing that it should be some time away.
Putting it back into the bag, zipping it closed, and putting it over my shoulder, I made my way out of my hiding spot. Brushing myself off for a moment, blinking the pain from the sun out of my eyes a little before looking around. Seeing that a tree that was only medium-sized was now the size of a mighty oak that could have been standing for a hundred years.
Tilting my head for a moment before putting my hand on the tree, something felt off. Turning down to look down the road, the usual cars being along the shoulders of the street. Stopping in my tracks after processing that the car models weren't from the 1930s, but now they were released with the latest models of flying car from only a few months ago. Pulling out my phone and looking at it to see it working just fine. It had a signal, though the night before it wasn't able to find anything. nothing more than a useless block of ones and zeros.
Scratching my arm for a moment, looking down after I felt the familiar woolen fabric. Rubbing the thick and scratchy material between my fingers, sighing for a moment. Emmett. Biting my lip for a moment, feeling my cheeks flush a little. My heart thumping in my chest as I thought about the lanky redheaded scientist.
You were supposed to help him with the experiment. All you did was disappear after agreeing to tell him you would meet him, you even lied to him about where you lived!
What if I go tell him what happened, he's a scientist, he would believe me right?
Don't be a fool, a hundred and ten years have passed. He's most likely deceased. He died knowing you lied to him, that you disappeared.
Shaking my head for a moment, deciding to head to the library to see if I could find anything on him and his life after I left. Being stopped in my tracks about a block away from the library. Looking up to see what was in front of me, I was met with a few officers.
"(y/n) (L/n)?"
"Y-yes?"
Looking at each other for a moment they motioned for me to follow them, leading me to a patrol car. Getting into the car and watching them get into the front of it. Gulping gently for a moment before speaking up from the back of the car.
"Can I ask what's going on?"
Sharing another look for a moment resulting in one furrowing his brows in confusion, turning to look at me.
"You've been missing for a couple of months."
Leaning back in shock before he turned to face forward before we were leaving. Looking at my hands for a moment, sighing gently, just how long have I been gone from this time? Being brought into the police department as they followed me into the building, an officer put his hand on my shoulder, getting my attention.
Looking up at the tall officer, who said that he was going to put me in a conference room so they can find out what happened. Though I wasn't sure what I was going to tell them. Sitting at the table with the small glass of water in my hand, realizing I was still in the clothes from the 30s. Hearing some voices before the door opened, looking up to see my very emotional mother coming into the room.
Before I could say anything she had me in the tightest hug I've ever felt from her. Rubbing her back a little before patting her arm for her to let me go from her cobra grip. Pulling away from me for a moment before grabbing my face and kissing my forehead a thousand times. Once she was done, pulling away and looking at me before sniffling.
"Where have you been?"
Sighing gently and giving a small smile. "I was visiting a friend."
"For a couple of months? And without sending anything to tell us you were alright?"
"I was going to, but my phone wasn't working."
Hearing her sigh gently before nodding she motioned for me to stand, doing so I was met with another, but a considerably gentler hug. Smiling gently as I leaned into the hug, pulling away for a bit before she wrapped her arm around me, walking with me out to the car before heading home. Seeing her glance at my bag as I put it at my feet, humming gently.
"I thought your bag was a lot newer than that?"
Looking at it, as it technically was new last she saw me, though it ended up sitting in the same spot while I was put through time. Looking out the window as the car flew back towards our home, there was a lot that I had to catch up on when I got home, though the first thing that was on my mind was finding out what happened to Emmett after I disappeared.
