I didn't even hear word about it until after the issue had been going on for a while, but apparently, there was a custody battle for me going on right under my nose.
Just as life was starting to settle down; I was overcoming my fears of interacting with people baby step by baby step, I started being bombarded with sudden questions at random. Such as the kinds of people I preferred to be around, the types of places I was most comfortable with, and the genre of food I liked to eat most. Though I was clearly disinterested, Mr. Yaga would bring up foreign countries and traditional families, as if trying to plant certain ideas into my head. For the most part, I just thought he had a new and strange fascination with America and its' culture in particular. Until I finally found out I had some extended family from there. And two individuals in particular who were vying for the ability to finally meet me in person.
Well, I couldn't exactly say no to this extended family of mine, now could I?
I didn't exactly want to meet anyone new, though. I was satisfied with the friends I had.
---------------
I was hiding in the bushes, watching the school doors closely. The ones the first years always exited. I crouched even lower as a calm bell chime echoed around like a sweet melody. I grinned, scrunching my nose as I waited.
Suddenly,
Slam!
"WE'RE FREE!!!" Gojo slammed the door open, nearly breaking it, and fell to his knees. Overcome with relief, he bent down and kissed the ground. "No more exams! I repeat! No more exams!"
Shoko strolling past stopped to kick her classmate's butt. "We still have two years to go." She stared plainly, but then she snickered and grinned at her classmate's reaction.
He essentially teleported to his feet, rubbing his butt with one hand and grabbing for the girl's hair with the other. "LET ME BE HAPPY FOR ONCE, D###IT!"
Geto jumped in and pried the two apart before they could start wrestling. Shoko was still grinning deviously, happy to stir the other's anger. Geto elbowed the others, taking on both in a mini brawl just to get them to stop harassing each other. "You idiots. Wait for combat training at least."
After some more bickering, the three calmed down and started walking down the path away from the school. The exact same path I expected them to go on~
Gojo, "I wonder where Zeya is today.. She's usually waiting for us."
Geto, "Dunno. Maybe she-"
"RAHH!" I sprung from the bushes and tackled The skinny one's nearest leg. I continued making wild jaguar or whatever noises as I wrapped myself around his leg, scratching at it with my 'claws.'
"OH GOD!" Getting into the act, the teen started frantically dragging his leg. The other two chuckled, casually walking past him. Meanwhile bro reached out for the two, acting like he was literally dying. "GUYS, PLEASE, HELP! THE TIGER HAS ME! I'M BLEEDING OUT!"
"Wow, oh no."
"So sad.."
"SERIOUSLY GUYS, YOU WOULDN'T ACTUALLY ACT LIKE THAT IF I WAS DYING, RIGHT?!" Gojo fell to the ground. "GHH OH HELL IT HURTS!" Shoko stopped, turned around, and turned their heads to stare at each other for a moment. Then, they decided to get involved as well.
"I'll save you, Satoru!!" Geto jumped into the fray, grabbing my torso to pull me off of his friend. He was putting in minimum effort, however, not wanting to accidentally hurt me or ruin my fun. Shoko, on the other end, grabbed Gojo's hands and started to pull. Tugging together, the other teens lifted Gojo and I into the air. But still, I didn't let go.
Gojo air kicked at my head. I grabbed his shoe. "OH CRAP, IT HAS MY OTHER LEG! NO!" He tore his foot free from the shoe. Shoko broke character to laugh. Together, she and Geto yanked one last time, successfully severing me from my prey.
Geto fell to the ground, sitting with me trapped on his lap while I clawed and hissed, reaching rabidly for the white haired teen who now lay on the floor near-motionless. Shoko rolled Gojo onto his back. "Sho...ko..." Gojo, his eyes half closed, tiredly reached up for his friend. "..Find me a wife... and tell her I love her...."
Shoko grabbed his hand all caring-like. Unable to take this seriously, she started to snicker instead of cry while watching the life fade from her classmate's blue eyes. She swallowed her laughs long enough to at least pretend to be in character. "Oh no, we're losing him!" Gojo's body went limp, eyes closing. She then rolled up her sleeves and started doing CPR chest compressions.
Gojo snickered and whispered, "You're.. not.. helping."
Also whispering, "Shut up."
Also also whispering, "I thought.. you said.. you were studying.. to be.. a doctor."
"I said shut up!"
My own snarling blocked out most of this banter. My attempts to escape became more desperate the longer this act went on. I started to take this play seriously the more I watched the boy lay there limply on the ground. That familiar feeling of helplessness returned. Geto was so strong when he wanted to be!
The teen noticed my change in attitude. The ravenous noises died out, replaced with very human whimpers of concern. He released me, allowing me to run/crawl the fallen one's way.
I tackled the fallen one, hugging him as I drape over his chest.
. . .
The music swells. Suddenly, Gojo wrapped his arms around me to hug back. "I'm okay.. I'm okay." The teen grinned. I held on tightly still, a tad too scared from his realistic acting. The white haired teen sat up, tensely rubbing my back. "Awh.. Did I scare you?~"
"Mhmm.." I nodded.
"Will icecream make you feel better?"
"... Mhmm."
Gojo snickered. "Right, guys, looks like we have a new mission to get done!"
"Yesss! Icecream!"
͡ᵔ ‿ ͡ᵔ "Mmm, well I won't get in the way of that~"
---------------
"I seriously think she's imprinted on you, man." Shoko said while staring at my little self clutching the blue eyed one's hand.
"Really??" Gojo glanced down at me. My feet patted happily on the city sidewalk. My arms swung about, my eyes full of life.
Geto smiled softly at his friend and I. "Hm, yeah, like a baby bird." He then offered his hand to my free one. I curiously accepted it. Together, he and Gojo picked me off my feet swung me a little. Shoko giggled as I started to laugh and squeal gleefully.
Interrupting our fun, Gojo's phone rang. He plucked it out of his pocket while groaning and held the thing weirdly while accepting the call. "Hgh, yes?! .. Uh?? What are you calling me for? Coulda just told me whatever in class.. . Yeah. She's with me. .. You need her?? Why?? ... Well, we're getting icecream right now, so they'll have to wait." The swinging stopped. Everyone in your group were staring curiously at the boy on the phone.
"..What is it?" Geto leaned in.
Gojo pulled the phone from his ear. "Some distant relatives of Zeya want to meet her.." He rolled his eyes. My eyes broadened, but I didn't want to think about it much. My mom never mentioned her family, so they were probably all scary people. "You don't want to meet them, right, Zeya?" I shook my head frantically. Gojo returned the phone to his ear. "She's not interested. So you can tell them to go away."
"Satoru, don't be so rude! They might have good intentions." Geto griped. It was clear he was getting an earful from the other side as well.
Talking to both, "It's hard to imagine anyone so distant being good people. They might only want her because of her third eye." Gojo wore a very different look than usual. Serious, staring straight ahead, his steely stare was borderline threatening. His grasp on my hand tightened slightly. I accepted his inner anxiety as my own. "... Hhhh, fiiiine! We're headed to Bixi's." With an annoyed look, he hung up and turned to his friends. "They're going to meet us there and talk to Zeya in the park after."
I gasped and tugged back, attempting to turn the two lads around. Neither dared to change course, however. So, here I was, being dragged to my fate.
---------------
My eyes anxiously bore into the crowd of people waiting in line. It was a small but popular business. And today's heatwave definitely helped to boost its numbers. So far, the principle hadn't shown up. Whenever he did make an appearance with the strangers, I had it planned already to turn and run. I didn't want to meet any scary people! I didn't want to leave the new home!
Finally at the front, I was taking a while to decide what flavor of ice cream I wanted. Gojo had picked me up like a large soggy cat and was holding me out before the array of options to behold. My anxiety was so bad, however, both about the relatives and just making a decision in general, my brain was fried and nothing relating to thought was thoughting. The teen's arms were starting to shake after a while. More pressing were all the angry eyes set on the bunch of teenagers and their adopted ball of anxiety. "Come onn, decide already." The teen's agitation didn't help. In fact, it did the complete opposite.
