34. Who the Hell is Bucky

Becca sat with Sam outside at a table where they were told Jasper Sitwell would be as she licked the vanilla ice cream cone he had gotten her, pushing up the sunglasses on her face, smiling at Sam, "Thank you for my ice cream." She murmurs to Sam.

The man smiles at her, "No problem, princess. You can have anything you want." He states as he pulls out his phone, than hands Becca the gun, "Aim it when I tell you too." He instructs.

The teenager nods, setting the ice cream  down in the small paper bowl she had gotten from the ice cream parlor on the table in front of them, she grips the gun tightly as Sam calls Sitwell, watching the man intently through her sunglasses and baseball hat pulled down to hide some of her face. "Agent Sitwell, how was lunch, I hear the crab cakes here are delicious." Sam says.

"Who is this?" Becca hears Sitwell say over the phone.

"The good looking guy in the sunglasses and the wonderful girl sitting next to me with a delicious ice cream cone. Your ten o clock." Sam replies, watching Sitwell look in the other direction, making Becca giggle a bit, "Your other ten o clock." The two watch as Sitwell then turns, seeing the two of them. Sam smirks, "There you go." He murmurs.

"What do you want?" Sitwell asks, making Becca giggle more, leaning into Sam briefly as she takes a bite out of her cone.

"You're gonna go around the corner to your right, there's a grey car two spaces down. You, me and my princess are gonna take a ride." Sam states.

Sitwell looks at the two of them smugly, "And why would I do that?" He asks.

"Because that tie looks really expensive, and I'd hate for my princess to mess it up." Sam states as Becca holds up the gun with her expert precision, aiming at Sitwell's tie. The teenager smirks at the man, grabbing her sunglasses with her free hand and lowering them to the bridge of her nose, showing the Hydra man her eyes that are identical to her father's. Sitwell instantly recognizes Becca, fear surrounding his features as he looks around again and can't find the two anymore.

Becca kicks Sitwell's chest as they walk onto the roof of a building, Sitwell falls over as Steve walks up behind his niece, starting the interrogation, "Tell me about Zola's algorithm." He states, walking closer to the agent.

Sitwell is quick to stand up putting his glasses back on, "Never heard of it." He states nervously.

"What were you doing on Lumerian Star?" Steve asks. He isn't letting Sitwell go until he gets the answers he's looking for.

"I was throwing up. I get seasick." Sitwell says in reply, making Becca scoff.

"Lies." She murmurs, the girl was gifted in many ways she was discovering. One of those gifts was her advanced hearing. She was able to detect heartbeats up to a certain distance. She could tell when someone was lying, because she could hear the spike in the persons heartrate.

Sitwell stumbles on the ledge, almost falling backwards if it wasn't for Steve catching his suit in his fists, "Is this little display meant to insinuate that you're gonna throw me off the roof? Because it's really not your style, Rogers." Sitwell spits out as Steve holds him firmly in his grasp.

Natasha is behind them, glancing at Becca as she smirks. The teenager wasn't one for hurting people, but Hydra weren't people. They were monsters.

Steve lets go of Sitwell, smoothing out his suit jacket, backing up, "You're right, it's not." He states as Natasha and Becca step closer to the Hydra agent, "It's theirs." Steve comments as both Becca and Natasha plant their feet on Sitwell's chest, kicking him off the roof.

Becca laughs at the high pitch scream Sitwell let's out as Natasha turns to Steve, "What about that girl from accounting, Laura.." Natasha murmurs as she tries to remember the girls name.

"Lillian-" Steve says, "-Lip piercing right?"

Natasha nods, "Yeah she's cute."

Steve shoves his hands into his pocket, looking down at where Sitwell fell, "Yeah.. I'm not ready for that." He states, making Becca laugh.

"Auntie Nat, stop setting my Uncle up with girls." The teenager teases, catching the redhead off guard briefly, Becca had never called her Auntie before, but it warmed the spy's heart.

The three then hear Sitwell's screaming come back to them as Sam flies over them, gripping onto Sitwell as he drops him back onto the roof. Sitwell is scrambling, clearly ready to talk.

Sitwell holds his hand up as to say he'll talk and not harm him, "Zola's Algorithm is a program, for choosing Insights targets."

"What targets." Steve asks sharply.

"You. A TV anchor in Cairo, the Under Secretary of Defense, a high school valedictorian in Iowa City." Sitwell spits out names, "Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, anyone who's a threat to Hydra." He adds, breathing heavily, "Now, or in the future."

"Future? How could it know." Steve asks the Hydra agent, looking at Natasha and Becca, then glancing at Sam.

Sitwell starts to laugh, making Sam become cautious as he walks up to the man slowly, "How could it not?" Sitwell states harshly, standing up in the process, "The 21st century is a digital book." He seethes, breathing heavily, "Zola taught Hydra how to read it."

All four of them looks confused, glancing at one another, then back at Sitwell, "Your bank records, medical histories, voting patterns, emails, phone calls. Your damn SAT scores!" The man shouts, "Zola's algorithm evaluates people's past to predict their future."

"What then?" Becca asks, stepping closer to her uncle.

Sitwell starts to freak out, his heartrate starts to spike, "Oh my gosh, Pierce is gonna kill me."

Becca steps forward, gripping his shirt, "What then!" She asks again. She isn't letting anyone in Hydra go unpunished, not when her mama died to cover their mess up.

Sitwell looks at Becca, he knows who she it, what she is. Winter's daughter. Eyes are the window to the soul. The teenager's eyes are baring everything as she looks at Sitwell, she wants answers and she doesn't care who she has to go through as long as it's Hydra and not innocents.

Sitwell looks at all four of them, "Then the Insight helicarriers scratch people off the list. A few million at a time."

Soon the five are in a car, Becca sits in the middle as Natasha and Sitwell flank her sides, Sitwell is freaking out. Sam is driving and Steve is in the passenger seat as Sitwell leans forward, "Hydra doesn't like leaks. Rebecca here knows it." The agent snaps, causing all eyes who aren't driving to looks at the agent.

"How do you know Becca." Steve asks.

"Who in Hydra doesn't know about The Winter's Daughter." Sitwell states, "She was trained under The Winter Solider himself, that's why she has the nickname. If she were more obedient, she'd be just like him. Maybe better." He adds as he looks at Becca, "Everyone in Hydra has been looking for you since you took off that night. Pierce especially."

Sam has heard enough of Sitwell and says, "Why don't you try sticking a cork in it." As Natasha leans over, her head poking into the divider of the two front seats.

"Hey we're cutting it a little close, Insight's launching in sixteen hours."

Steve nods, "I know. We'll use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the helicarriers directly."

Sitwell sits forward, staring Steve down, "What? Are you crazy?" He states, "That is a terrible, terrible idea." He adds just when becca hears a thud on the roof of the car. Becca screams briefly as a metal hand breaks through the window, pulling Sitwell out of the car and throws him onto oncoming traffic, killing him instantly. The rest of the people in the car duck for cover as gunshots start to go off, Natasha climbs through to the front seats and sits in the middle as Becca climbs onto her Uncle's lap. Sam steers the wheel just as a bullet flies past his head and into the seat behind him. Steve grabs the brake and pushes it forward, sending the man on the roof flying  in front of them.

Becca hesitates, "Papa." She murmurs, looking at her uncle as they stare at the man they just launched off their car, they watch as the man flips and grips the freeway cement with his metal hand, crouching down as if he's preparing to attack again. The metal hand releases from the pavement when the Winter Solider begins to stand up. Car's are passing them, honking, but Becca hears a screech behind them, seeing a ATV truck crash into them from behind, sending them towards the soldier in front of them.

Just when they think they're going to hit him, the Solider launches himself over the car, gripping onto the roof for balance. Sam hits the brakes on the car again, hoping to slow the car behind them down. During all of this, Natasha is looking for her gun to give the four of them a fighting chance. Becca hears the whirring of the metal arm as it breaks through the car, gripping the steering wheel and pulling it out of the car, shocking Sam, who's driving.

Sam swears as Natasha finds her gun and begins shooting at the solider on the roof, Becca watches as her papa jumps from the car onto the one behind them. The car they're in begins to veer every which way and the truck behind them hits their backend, sending them spiraling, hitting the cement divider.

Steve straps his shield onto his arm as he grabs Becca, Natasha and Sam as the car begins to flip, Steve breaks the door as the car flips in midair, the skid on the pavement, Sam loses his grip on Steve and starts to roll on the pavement. Becca sees the truck stop and her father jump off the front of it. Natasha drags her away as Steve holds up his shield for protection. The spy hands Becca the gun she had for protection.

The teenager sees her father being handed a rocket launcher, firing it at the three of them. Steve shoves his niece and friend out of the way as he ducks behind his shield when the bomb hits his shield, sending him over the overpass freeway. "Uncle Steve!" Becca screams as then the rest of her father's team begin firing their guns at them, Natasha and Sam drag Becca from the men firing, taking cover behind their car that was flipped. The three are forced behind separate cars when the men advance them. Becca quickly runs towards Natasha handing the gun back to her.

Natasha fire a gun at the men, but the solider shoots another bomb from his gun towards the two girls. Natasha and Becca flip over the cement divider in time to escape the blast, ducking out of oncoming traffic, diving behind more cars as the men shooting turn towards them. The two girls dive behind a small sports car as the solider fires another bomb. Natasha grips onto Becca as they flip over the side of the overpass. The redhead releases a small grappling hook that prevents the two from falling, and they quickly make their way down to the street.

Natasha spots the shadows of the solder and his men, raising her gun and shooting at them. She manages to hit the soldiers goggles, breaking them. Giving them time to take cover. When the solider gets back up, Becca sees how furious he is that he got hit. Her papa unleashes bullets from his new gun at the girls. Becca and Natasha cling to the side of the fallen bus they had taken cover near, avoiding the rain of bullets.

Natasha grips Becca's arm and they make a break for it down the street, running as fast as they can to find more cover, they make it down the street as Becca hears more gun firing from where they just were. Becca watches as Natasha records something on her phone, setting it down and pressing repeat, attempting to throw the solider off long enough to get a shot at him.

They duck behind a car of the other side of the street, and see the solider walk up. Becca tries to keep her breathing quiet as she sees her Papa's boots from underneath the car she's hiding behind. The two girls watch as he is fooled by the recording, sending a small bomb to it, watching it blow up. Natasha leaps onto the car in front of them and jumps onto the solider, twisting her body to stay on his shoulders. She pulls out a cord, holding it around the soliders neck, pulling him backwards against a car. Becca can't think fast enough and sees Natasha being thrown from the soldier's shoulders and into another car.

Becca advances, sliding between her father's legs, hitting the pressure points in his legs, watching him kneel, looking up at Becca, her face is familiar but he doesn't remember where as he stands back up, gripping the teenagers hair and yanking her backwards. Becca yelps in pain but flips in the air onto her Papa's shoulders, "помню меня(Remember me)." She whispers to her Papa in Russian, but he shakes his head, throwing her off his shoulders and into the same car he threw the redhead. Natasha hands Becca a small disk, she nods as her Papa grabs the gun he dropped. The teenager throws it at her Papa's arm, watching it electrocute his metal arm, leaving it limp.

Becca and Natasha run away from him and towards crowds of people, "Get out of the way!" Becca screams to the people, Natasha saying something similar. Trying to get the people out of the way so they wont become a casualty.

They continue running until Becca hears glass being shot at and her Aunt crumple to the ground, clutching her shoulder, "Auntie Nat!" She screams, helping her aunt to a car for cover. Becca hears a car being jumped on, knowing it's her father, she takes the gun from Natasha and starts to shoot at him, also seeing her uncle advance to him.

Her papa doesn't have time to fire back as Steve runs up to him, the solider twists his metal arm and punches Steve's shield hard. Becca hears a ringing as the two collide. The solider swipes the shield away, kicking Steve in the chest. Steve squats with his shield in front of him as the solider fires two more times at him. He drops the rifle and takes off as Steve and Becca advance him.

Her papa stands up, using a smaller gun to shoot at them, Becca dodges out of the way and Steve raises his shield. Steve and Becca nod at each other, then her uncle grips his shield as Becca runs onto it, he lifts the shield up when she steps down, launching her towards her father. She kicks the gun in his hand and Steve comes around the backside of the solider, punching him in the jaw, quickly turning around and swinging his shield towards the solider only for the metal arm to catch it. The two men begin throwing punches and dodging them until the solider grips tightly onto the shield, flipping Becca's uncle, causing Steve to lose his grip on his shield. Becca's Papa now has the shield in his flesh arm and throwing punches with his metal one. The solider lands a decent punch with his metal arm onto Steve's chest, sending him backwards towards a car.

Becca advances, hitting her Papa's pressure points in his flesh arm, causing him to loosen his grip on the shield. Becca takes the shield from him, securing it on her arm and begins to use it to her advantage, swinging it against her father, only for it to be deflected and thrown into a van. Becca breathes heavily as she sees her father pull out a knife from his pant leg.

She turns her head to see her uncle advancing again. She grips onto her Papa's neck, getting him into a choke hold between her arms. The solider grips her arms, throwing her away from him. She gasps as her back hits the pavement, watching her uncle fight hand to hand with her Papa.

Steve soon is able to get his shield that is lodged into the back of a van, he deflects more punches and the knife coming his way from the solider. Steve makes his way around the solider quickly, he manages to throw a punch to the solider, lodging his shield into the metal arm, disarming it for a brief second as the continue to fight. Becca stands up, leaping onto a car and running to her Uncle and Papa. The teenager sees her uncle has her father in a choke hold that wont last long, so she quickly advances, launching onto her father, getting behind him and gripping his neck with both of her hands, she manages to throw her papa across the street some, but noticed his mask had fallen off while he was flying.

Steve and Becca breathe heavily as the solider stands up, turning to look at them. Steve's eyes widen as he sees the face of his best friend and brother, he looks to Becca as she stares at her Papa. "Bucky?" Steve says out of breath.

"Who the hell is Bucky?" Becca's Papa says as he raises his gun to shoot at them. Sam manages to fly in and kick Bucky onto the ground. A disoriented solider looks around, but then raises his gun again only to have Natasha come up, shooting the rocket launcher at him. She leans against the car for support. When Becca and Steve turn back around to see if the solider is still there, he's gone.

Soon Shield trucks and vans roll up, surrounding the four as agents surround them with guns raised. Becca sees the man from the mall yell at them, "Drop the shield, Captain! Get on your knees!" The man shouts at her uncle. Becca's eyes are wild as a gun is pointed to her head as she gets onto her knees with her hands raised.

Runlow then kicks Steve's knees, forcing him onto the ground to put cuffs on him, another man raises his rifle and points it at his head. Runlow looks up at the sky, seeing a news helicopter and looks back at his teammate, "Put the gun down." He orders, "Not here. Not here!" He shouts until his teammate lowers his gun.

Becca, Sam and Natasha are transported to a van, but as they walk towards the vehicle, she sees her uncle not moving or doing anything, he is just staring at the ground, still in shock from finding out his brother in law is alive and under Hydra's control.

Soon all four of them are in a transporting van, hands are bound, and Steve says, "It was him. He looked right at me like he didn't even know me." Becca looks down, feeling guilty for not saying anything sooner.

"That's because he doesn't remember you." The teenager whispers, "His mind is wiped every mission.." She trails off, staring at the floor.

"How's that even possible? That was, like, seventy years ago." Sam comments, not hearing Becca.

"Zola." Becca and Steve say in unison.

"Bucky's whole unit was captured in '43. Zola experimented on him. Whatever he did helped Bucky survive the fall." Steve states grimly, still processing the whole thing, "They must have found him and-"

"None of that's your fault, Steve." Natasha says quietly, getting sleepy as she continues to lose blood due to her wound. Steve looks at Becca.

"Even when I had nothing, I had Bucky and Mary." Steve murmurs quietly.

Sam looks Natasha over, seeing her wound begin to bleed more, "We need to get a doctor here." Sam states with urgency, "If we don't put pressure on the wound she's gonna bleed out here in the truck." He adds. The whole group watches as an agent pulls out their electrical stick, aiming it at Sam but then flips it and stabs the stick into the agent next to them, kicking them in the head, knocking them out.

The all four of them stare in shock at the agent, watching the agent lean forward, pulling off their helmet to revel Maria Hill, "Ah. That thing was squeezing my brain." She mutters, looking at all of them, then at Sam, "Who's this guy?" She asks.

The van door opens and Steve jumps out first, helping Natasha out as Becca and Sam follow after. Maria pulls open a metal gated door, leading the group into a tunnel under a dam. They walk for a while before Maria calls out to the man running towards them, "GSW. She's lost at least a pint."

"Maybe two." Sam adds quickly.

The man running to them calls back, "Let me take her!" Becca notices that it's the same man that was the doctor that operated on her Mama.

"They'll want to see them first." Maria points out as the four of them look at each other confused. They make it to a room blocked by rubber blinds, Hill pulls them open to reveal the two people that Steve, Becca and Natasha never thought they'd see again.

Nick Fury is laying in a bed and Mary Barnes sitting next to him, switching the bandages on his arm for new ones. Fury smirks, motioning for Mary to look behind her. The doctor smiles, seeing her brother, daughter and friends.

"About damn time." Fury says sarcastically, wincing as Mary smacks him gently, scolding him.

"Hi guys." Mary murmurs, smiling at all of them, but mostly her brother and daughter.
