23. Shakespeare In The Park?
Mary sits strapped into the passenger seat in the quinjet, dressed in a loaned Shield Agent uniform, similar to the one Maria Hill had on, as Natasha flies over head to their destination and Steve sits in waiting in the back. She never saw herself returning to Germany, she had stayed away for a reason, too many bad memories. Mary was pulled from her thoughts when she saw an elderly man stand when everyone is kneeling in front of Loki. She remembered Loki from New Mexico. He was so much different than their short meeting, she had never spoken to him but Thor wanted Mary to hear their conversation since she already knew who Thor was.
She looks back at her brother, "Captain Rogers, go now." She tells him as Loki readies his scepter to fire at the elderly man. Steve looks back at Mary and nods as he jumps out of the jet.
Mary watches as her brother lands just in time for his shield to block the blast from Loki's scepter and it recoils off his shield hitting Loki on the way back. The sister smiles in victory but she knew this was only the beginning as her brother stands from his landing position.
"You know, the last time I was in Germany was with my sister, and we saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing with him." Steve states as he walks towards Loki slowly. Mary chuckled softly at her brother referencing her.
"The soldier." Loki gripes as he stands up, "The man out of time." He quips with laughter following his words.
"I'm not the one who's out of time." Steve responds as Natasha lowers the jet and flicks the switches to aim the gun at Loki.
She turns on her headset and Mary only watches Loki. She wasn't needed unless there was an injury to the small team, "Loki, drop the weapon and stand down." She states but Loki sends up a blast towards the jet before she can say anything else. Mary quickly takes the controls and dodges the blast, breathing heavily at her reflexes. Natasha and Mary look at each other nodding at each other then go back to see Steve and Loki fighting. Mary gasps briefly when Loki sends her brother across their fighting area a few minutes later.
"The guy's all over the place." Natasha murmurs and Mary nods.
"He's too unpredictable." The Doctor comments.
"Agent Romanoff, why is my doctor in Germany?" Tony's voice appears in their ears, "You miss me, Liza?" He asks as AC/DC begins to play through their systems.
"Tony, what did you do?" Mary asks as she chuckles softly at her godson's antics as the volume becomes louder and louder, drawing the attention of her brother and Loki from their fight.
Mary watches as Tony flies into her line of sight, sending repulsor blasts at Loki, sending the god flying across the ground and landing beside his godmother's brother. When Tony stands, he readies not only a repulsor but also a mini missile is aimed at Loki as well as other weapons attached to his Iron Man suit. "Make your move, Reindeer Games." He quips to the god. Mary chuckles softly again as her brother straps his shield onto his arm and steps beside Tony. Loki's armor vanishes in golden wisps around him as he raises his hands up in surrender. Tony lowers his arms and his weapons retract back into his suit, "Good move."
Steve breathes heavily after having fought a literal god as he glances over at Tony, "Mr. Stark." He greets Tony.
Tony nods his head towards Steve, "Captain."
When they are all on the jet, Mary steps out of her passenger seat, walking over to see Loki in chained handcuffs being escorted by Tony and Steve into a seat. Steve and Tony both look at Mary, the looks on their faces indicating they want her no where near the god they captured. So Mary sits down across from him several seats down the line on the opposite row of seats.
"Is he saying anything?" Fury asks over Mary and Natasha's headsets.
"Not a word." Natasha responds bitterly.
"Just get him here. We're low on time." Fury orders.
"Sure thing." Mary says in reply and Natasha cuts off the comms. Steve and Tony both surround Mary, they didn't like her being here but she was needed if one of them got injured. She was skilled in battlefield medicine, they both knew that only she could do the job that was required of her.
Her brother stands beside her as Tony stands in front of her, effectively blocking Loki from seeing her and vice versa. She understood their protectiveness, she was the most defenseless one on the jet, she could use a gun when she absolutely had too, but other than that, she was only needed for medical purposes. "I don't like it." Steve grumbles, crossing his arms.
Mary looks up at her brother as her godson speaks, "What, Rock of Ages giving up so easily?" He quips. The godmother had also found it odd that Loki surrendered rather quickly once Tony showed up. That didn't seem like the god she had met two years ago. She knew he had a plan, but what it was she didn't expect to get answers.
"I don't remember it being that easy." Steve replies, "That guy packs a wallop."
"Still, you are pretty spry for an older fellow." Tony quips to his godmother's brother.
Mary raises an eyebrow, "Tony." She warns her godson, she didn't want him poking the bear with her brother. He was still adjusting with the help of his sister.
Tony ignores his godmother as he turns his head towards Steve, "What's your secret, pilates?"
Steve raises an eyebrow in confusion, "What?" He questions, looking over at his sister who only shakes her head.
"It's like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple of things doing time as a Capsicle." Tony teases, smirking slightly. "But I'm sure Mama Ree's been trying to get you up to speed." He says quieter than the rest of what he was saying, it wasn't just the three of them on the jet, two other people were on the jet and they didn't know Mary's secret. Though she could guess Loki already knew, he was the god of lies after all.
"Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in." Steve retorts, looking at Mary who only sighs. She really didn't want her two most loved people in the world to get into an argument right now. She had hoped they would get along, this was their first meeting aside from the time Tony came by when Steve had first woken up.
"Yeah, there's a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you, doesn't tell Mama Ree either." Tony replies as lightning and thunder go off in the sky around the jet. Mary gasps and stands from where she was sitting.
"Elizabeth." Steve calls for his sister, he wasn't used to using her middle name other than a nickname. "It's not safe."
Mary shakes her head, "This isn't natural." She replies, looking over at Loki as he glances at her.
Steve steps in front of his sister to block her from Loki, "What's the matter? Are you afraid of a little lightning?" He questions the god.
Loki eyes the Captain as he leans forward in his seat, "I'm not overly fond of what follows." He states plainly. Mary and Loki were the only two who knew what this weather meant. And one of them was more eager than the other.
A loud thud caused them to jump in the jet, Mary smiles softly as the lightning becomes more prominent and the two men around her go on guard. The jet continues to shake in the thunderstorm and Tony grabs his helmet, putting it on his head as he presses the button to open the rear hatch of the jet. Steve secures his helmet and looks over, "What are you doing?" He calls to Tony.
Mary stumbles as the jet shakes again with the hatch open, "T! Don't!" She shouts and she jumps when she sees Thor land on the open hatch. "Thor, wait!" She shouts at the thunder god and her friend.
Thor briefly makes eye contact with her, a brief look of confusion on his face before he shoves Tony to the ground of the jet with Mjolnir and rips Loki out of his seat, holding him by the neck. The two brothers quickly exit out of the jet, leaving the small team without their prisoner.
Tony groans as he stands up, "Now there's that guy." He grumbles, looking over at his godmother, "You know him?" He questions.
Mary nods, still in shock Thor had taken Loki, "New Mexico." She mutters in reply and that's all Tony needs to understand the situation a bit better. He was with her when Coulson came to get her for the New Mexico case Shield had been assigned to.
"Another Asgardian?" Natasha calls out from her pilot seat in the jet.
"That guy a friendly? Elizabeth knows him." Steve asks, looking between his sister and Tony as the Captain holds onto his sister as the jet continues to rock due to the wind blowing in the sky around them.
"Doesn't matter. If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost." Tony states urgently, then looks at Mary. She knows that through his helmet he's looking at her with sad eyes. He knows the two are close friends and he doesn't want to hurt his godmother but he also can't let Loki go free or get killed by Thor.
"Tony! We need a plan of attack!" Mary shouts, trying to reason with her godson before he does something stupid. He had been known for stupid ideas all his life that had threatened his life on more than one occasion.
The godson turns his head to look over his shoulder at his godmother and her brother as he steps up to the edge of the hatch platform, "I have a plan. Attack." He states as he launches himself off of the platform.
Mary groans in frustration as she looks up at her brother, the same reaction on his face as he then grabs a parachute and begins to strap it on. He hands Mary the connecting harness, her hazel eyes wide. "I can just stay in the jet you know.." She points out.
Steve shakes his head, "I want you to, but you know the thunder god, you could probably be the only one to reason with him." He states and Mary nods slowly, understanding her brother's perspective.
She huffs out a breath of air and begins to strap herself into the harness Steve had given her as Natasha speaks up once more, "I'd sit this one out, you two."
"I don't see how we can," Steve comments as he tightens the straps to his harness, then begins to connect his sister's harness to his own.
"These guys come from legend. They're basically gods." Natasha points out, worried that her friend and the Captain will wind up getting themselves hurt. She knew Fury was close friends with Doctor Bryne, and if anything happened to her, there would be hell to pay.
"There's only one God, ma'am. And i'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." Steve states as he grabs his shield, then looks at his sister, "You ready?"
Mary hesitates as they step onto the edge of the platform, "Just like when we saved James's battalion, right? We jumped out of Howard's plane in worse conditions." She teases nervously, causing her brother to chuckle with a nod.
"Just like that." He replies as he launches them off the platform. Mary's eyes widen as she grips onto her brother's arm that clutches his shield. His other hand held steady on the pull to the parachute.
When Steve and Mary land, she can hear her godson in his comm and Thor on the other end, she quickly tries to get out of his harness as her thunderous friend snaps at her godson, "Do not touch me again." Thor snaps.
"Then don't take my stuff." Tony quips and Mary simply rolls her eyes as Steve gets out of his harness as well.
"You have no idea what you're dealing with." Thor says to Tony and Mary can feel the anxiousness in her body building as she knows the people she cares about are going to fight if they keep this up.
"Steve.." She mutters as the he lifts her onto his back like during the War
"Uh.. Shakespeare in the park?" Tony quips, "Doth mother know you wear-eth her drapes?" Her godson mocks how Thor speaks.
"This is beyond you, metal man." Thor snaps dangerously low, "Loki will face Asgardian justice."
"He gives up the Cube, he's all yours. Until then, stay out of the way." Tony states and soon Mary can hear trees breaking and falling as her godson groans. She knows the fight had already started, she just hoped she could possibly stop it from getting worse.
She hears Tony's repulsor blasts in the distance as Steve gets closer to where Tony and Thor are fighting. Mary gasps when she sees lightning strike a specific spot, she points over in the area for her brother, "Over there, that's where they are." She says.
"When we get there you go for cover until I can get them calmed down enough." Steve states, "I'm not letting you get hurt." He states, Mary goes to respond but they both stop talking as they see the two men fly through the trees and into the sky briefly before falling back onto the ground.
"Okay.. so not where i pointed." Mary mutters, and Steve runs in the new direction. When they finally catch up to where Tony and Thor are, she quickly climbs off her brother's back as he sends his shield at them to gain their attention, "Hey!" Mary shouts. Both men turn to look at the siblings, "That's enough." She snaps as Steve puts his shield back onto his arm. He hoists his sister onto his back again as he jumps off the cliff, when he lands he sets her down again.
"Now, i don't know what you plan on doing here." Steve starts.
Thor looks at Mary, in shock she's actually here in front of him, "I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes."
"Then prove it. Put that hammer down." Steve states and Mary widens her hazel eyes.
"Thor, we can talk this out." Mary states, "There's no need for fighting." She says, trying to plead with her friend as he begins to swing his hammer.
"Yeah, no. Bad call, he loves his hammer." Tony states quickly, "Mama Ree, get away from here." He finishes just as Thor smacks him harshly with Mjolnir, sending him flying into the trees.
"You want me to put the hammer down?!" Thor shouts as he charges Steve. The brother's eyes widen as he grabs his sister quickly, pulling her and himself underneath his shield as Mjolnir collides with Steve's shield harshly, lightning and thunder booming overhead at the impact and the trees in the surrounding radius are trampled by the blast the two weapons made when they collided.
All four of them stand shakily, Steve helps his sister onto her feet, looking her over for any scrapes. She looks at the three men, "Are we done, here?" She snaps, breathing heavily.
Thor sighs, still gaining his breath, "I had no quarrel with you, Lady Elizabeth." He states, his words indicating he was apologizing to her. "I only had quarrel with these two men."
"If you have a bone to pick with them, you have a bone to pick with me, Thor." Mary says, then as her thunder friend has a confused look on his face she points to Steve, "Patient." Then points to Tony, "Like family." She snaps.
"These are the men you spoke so highly of two years ago?" Thor asks quizzically, Mary nods in agreement. "You mentioned a brother but you also said your beloved had passed." Steve hesitates, making eye contact with Tony who only shrugs. Neither of them knew Mary had told the god of thunder so much about her past.
"James.. is still gone.. but Steve has been around a while, we just weren't speaking to each other two years ago." She explains, Thor nodding slowly as he believes the lie she told him about Steve. She sighs, not wanting to explain anything more until later. "I can explain more, we have a lot to catch up on, but now isn't the time to do it when your brother is still without supervision."
Thor nods, "Agreed, Lady Elizabeth." He states, then looks at Steve and Tony, "I hope we can spar like that again in the future." He states as he walks past them as the four of them look up to see the jet landing where the trees used to be.
Steve raises an eyebrow as he looks at Mary, "You told him about Bucky?" He asks.
"I did." Mary responds, "He would involuntarily flirt with me until I told him I was already married." She says with a small smile, "We've been close friends since two years ago, I saw him as another brother if i'm honest." She says slightly ashamed as they walk onto the jet.
"There's nothing wrong with that." Steve reassures her, "Don't think for a moment that I would be mad or upset with you for thinking that about another man. I was gone for so many decades, it was bound to happen."
Mary smiles softly, nodding slowly, "Thank you, Stevie." She whispers.
"Of course, Lizzie." Her brother responds quietly.
The next day Steve, Natasha, Bruce, Mary and Thor all sit at the round table in the bridge, Mary next to her brother as The thunder god choosing to stand beside the table. Her godson had yet to walk into the room yet, but knowing Tony, he'd make an impression, but it wasn't always a good one. He had already made quite the impression on Thor and her brother. The group at the table pull up a live video feed of Fury talking to Loki. Bruce has the footage in front of him, but everyone is able to hear it.
"In case it's unclear. You try to escape. You so much as scratch that glass." Fury says to Loki as he pushes a button on his screen, opening the bottom of where Loki's cell is, gushing wind is blowing everywhere. Mary visibly cringes when she hears Nick. She didn't want Fury to include that monstrous thing on the carrier, but he did so anyway. "Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. You get how that works?!" Fury exclaims as he closes the bottom of Loki's cage. "Ant." Fury points to Loki, "Boot." He then turns to the screen with the death trap button.
Loki smirks, chuckling, "An impressive cage. But not one built, i think, for me."
"Built for something a lot stronger than you." Fury retorts, making all eyes at the table look to Bruce.
"He's just trying to intimidate, Loki.." Mary tries to reassure her friend, but also herself. She never saw her friend as a threat, even when he was his alter ego. But she knew other people, millions of other people, saw the Hulk as a monster that needed to be put down and caged.
Loki continues to speak once more and all eyes go back to the live footage, "Oh, I've heard." He teases with a smirk, "The mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you, that you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?"
Fury raises his one good eyebrow, "How desperate am I?" He scoffs at the god, "You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace and you kill 'cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did."
Loki smirks, "Ooh. It burns you to come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is."
Fury proceeds to walk away, saying "Well let me know if 'Real Power' wants a magazine or something."
Steve watches the monitor go black, then looks at his sister, "I suggested to Fury that he not to include that ridiculous cage." She murmurs, sighing. She looks to Thor, who stands in front of the table, his eyes are focused, thinking about something. Most likely what she was also thinking but on another level. Mary had only met Loki once, she knew he was lying at the time but she also didn't know the relationship the two brothers had with one another.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Bruce sarcastically asks the group. Mary dry laughs as she shakes her head
Steve looks to Thor, he was still wary of the god of thunder, but if his sister trusted him with her life, then he had no reason not to trust him as well. Maybe not as much as Mary did, but he trusted his sister more than anyone in the world now, she had the heart of gold, always giving more of herself then she gets back in return with a bright smile on her face. She never once would think of herself before someone else unless it would cause them more harm. "Loki's gonna want to drag this out. So Thor, what's his play?" The Captain asks the god.
Thor looks to the group, nodding, giving a small smile towards Mary before he begins to speak, "He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard nor any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tesseract." Thor explains to the group.
Steve looks at Thor, confusedly, he was still adjusting to the new age he had been thrusted into. And an army from space was not something he ever thought possible. He was still having a hard time believing that the man in front of him was truly Thor from Norse Mythology. The same mythology Schmidt had killed millions for. "An Army? From outer space?" He asks seriously.
Banner joins the conversation, "So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." He says and Mary's eyes widen. Erik Selvig was one of her closest friends in the science world.
Thor looks up, then over at Mary. They were both close to Erik, "Selvig?" He asks, needing to know what had become of his friend.
"He's an astrophysicist." Banner replies.
"He's a friend." Thor says quickly in reply.
"A close friend." Mary adds solemnly.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours." Natasha says, referring to Clint. Mary knew Natasha wasn't doing well on the inside knowing Clint was their enemy for the time being. The doctor didn't like it either.
"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here." Steve asks and Mary nods in agreement.
"I was curious about that too. It seemed too easy." She pipes in.
"I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you could smell crazy on him." Banner states to Steve and Mary.
"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he's my brother." Thor tells the table.
"He killed eighty people in two days." Mary points out, looking at her close friend and brother figure.
"He's adopted." Thor adds quickly and all Mary can do in response is chuckle at how fast Thor changed his tune on his brother.
"I think it's about the mechanics. Iridium, what did they need the Iridium for?" Bruce questions, thinking out loud so the others could step in if they needed to.
A voice from the hallway answers back, "It's a stabilizing agent." Mary's godson tells the group as he and Coulson walk into the room, he turns to Phil. The two converse quietly before he walks over to the group, "It means the portal won't collapse on itself like it did at Shield." He explains, then passes by Thor, patting him on his huge arm, "No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing." He teases, causing his godmother to chuckle. Mary smiles as Tony walks around the table, kissing his godmother's cheek, "Did I surprise you?" He asks, referring to their conversation back at the new Stark tower.
"Always keeping me on my toes, T." She replies with a smile, but she freezes when she realizes that Tony slipped up. He couldn't kiss her on her cheek in public, that would mess with her cover and his own relationship with Pepper if the press caught wind and blew it out of proportion like they always did.
"Good. Means i haven't lost my touch." He states, smiling at her, then turns back to the group, still not realizing what he had done until he sees the look on his godmother's face as well as her brother's. He curses under his breath as he glances around at the table, the other agents not paying enough attention to notice.
Thor looks confused at the exchange, he knew his friend was close with Tony, but he didn't think it was that close. "I am confused. I thought Lady Elizabeth was only your personal doctor. She mentioned it back in New Mexico." He states, confused by Tony's affection towards Mary.
Mary nods slowly, she knew questions would raise now that Tony had slipped. "She is." Tony answers, "I greet all the women in my life like that." He lies quickly to try and avoid his godmother from having to reveal herself to three people all at once.
But it only makes Thor more confused, "Then why are you and Lady Elizabeth so friendly, I believed it was customary to remain professional between colleagues? Despite your close kinship. And why has she not aged since I met her two years ago? I believed Midgardians to age faster than us of Asgard do."
Natasha nods in agreement with Thor, "I've been wondering about that too. I met you just before Thor did, you and Stark were awful close when I was there. And there were a few other occasions as well during that time." She says.
Bruce steps up to the table, "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, I met you in 2009, and you still look the same as you did then." He adds to the three's confusion.
Mary hesitates, glancing at her godson and brother. Both men can see her fighting with her nerves as she breathes out through her mouth slowly. She hadn't expected the need to tell them so early, she figured she'd eventually have to. Tony quickly walks over to her, "I'm so sorry." He apologizes, knowing how big her secret is. He felt horrible for messing it up for her.
"It's alright, Tony, really." She replies softly, "It was bound to come to light sooner or later with them." She points out, trying to make the situation better. She places her hand on his cheek, then puts her hands on the table, shakily taking a breath as she looks at all the confused faces. Her right hand goes under the table, her middle finger finding the button she remembered was there when Nick told her about it. The six of them around the table watch as black out panels fold around them, blocking the outside of their conversation.
Steve stands, going beside his sister. He wraps his arms around her elbows. "I've got you." He promises her, and that's all she needs as she looks at the group.
"You know me as Elizabeth Bryne." She states, hesitating on how to tell them, "But that's just my alias." She pauses, "My real name is Mary Elizabeth Rogers-Barnes, Co-Founder of Shield, sister to Steven Grant Rogers, better known as Captain America and wife to Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes." She announces to them. The black out panels were sound proof as well as a visual block for those not around the table. She watches the faces of Thor, Natasha and Bruce. Thor was still confused but the other two knew what that name meant.
"I do not understand." Thor mutters, looking at Mary, "Why would you use a fake name?"
Mary chuckles lightly at her friend, her hand resting on his bicep, "Because I was born on September eleventh, 1920. I am ninety-two years old. Steve is ninety-four, we're two years apart."
Thor's eyes widen in shock as he looks between Steve and Mary, "How are you two still this young then? I thought Midgardians died around when they are in the eighties or nineties."
Steve nods, "Usually us humans do, our lifespan isn't long like yours." He mutters, looking at his sister who nods for him to continue explaining. "I was trapped within ice for seventy years. But i have a serum inside of me that my sister believes to have kept me preserved." He explains, taking Mary's hand into his own, "Schmidt, the man we fought during World War II, injected Mary with his own serum, something we believe that was him trying to recreate what I was given."
"It stopped my body's natural aging progression." Mary says, "I am forever twenty-three years old."
Bruce whistles lowly in shock, "I've never seen that before. In all my years in the scientific fields.." He says.
Natasha looks up, "Schmidt, you mean the Red Skull?" She asks quizzically.
Steve and Mary nod, "We never called him by the title he gave himself." Mary explains softly.
Thor's blue eyes widen when his mind pieces together the information he had been given by Mary two years ago in New Mexico and just now, "This Schmidt, he was the man who made you fear me, my people."
Mary nods again, "He was insane, he believed Norse Mythology was the key to everything, global domination included." She says, "He had the Tesseract. He thought it was a gift to him from Odin himself."
"It was not." Thor mutters, he was angry that such a man used his people's mythology and legends for evil. That it made his dear friend scared of him when they had first met.
"So why did you go under an alias? And why is Stark affectionate with you?" Natasha asks Mary, her eyes briefly going to Tony who is only watching his godmother, silently encouraging her to continue in telling them her story.
"He's not your son is he?" Bruce asks quickly.
Mary laughs, "No. Howard and I were nothing more than friends who saw each other as siblings. Tony is my godson."
Tony nods, "I grew up with her being one of the only constants in my life." He says, smiling at the memories that enter his mind.
The godmother nods, "So in a way he is my son." She says to Bruce with a small smile, "And as to why I have an alias, I don't like the public attention. Tony made sure that when i'm with him that the press would leave me alone. But could you imagine the attention I would receive from not only the press, but from the world governments if they knew I was still alive?"
"That's why you faked your death and a decade later Elizabeth Bryne stepped into the scene." Natasha finishes where Mary was leading too.
Mary nods, "I wanted to still be a part of the world. I still wanted to make a difference in people's lives, but I couldn't as myself anymore." She explains, then looks at the three of them, "I'm sorry i lied to you all."
Thor shakes his head, "There is no need for apologies, you had every right to keep your past from us. I am grateful you trust us enough with your secret."
Tony steps closer to the table, "You can't tell anyone." He says to them, "She is Elizabeth Bryne to the world, to anyone that doesn't know."
Bruce looks up, pushing his glasses up onto his face, "Who else knows?"
"Nick, Pepper Potts, Harold 'Happy' Hogan and Coulson." Mary answers with a small smile.
Natasha raises an eyebrow, then smirks, "That's why Fury is so protective around you in his own way. He made me swear to protect you before we left for Stuttgart." She comments.
Mary chuckles, "Nick does a lot for me, and I'm still his boss technically." She says with a shrug, "I never resigned before I 'died'." She says with air quotes around died
Steve looks at Mary, he was curious as to why she didn't mention her daughter but he would ask her at a later time, "The agents will get curious." He reminds his sister.
Mary nods quickly, then looks up at her team, her friends, "Thank you. For taking this so well. For not being angry with me."
"Of course, Lady Mary." Thor says with a small smile as Natasha and Bruce nod in agreement.
"Let's get this show on the road, huh?" Tony comments, kissing his godmother's cheek once more before he slips his hand underneath the table and presses the button to retract the black out panels. The group of six acting as if they were talking about Loki, and not the woman beside the Captain and Iron Man
This is literally a new chapter because when i was revamping the original chapter 17, i had added these scenes and then looked at the word count, and literally the word count was well over 9,000. So i needed to split the chapter. So now 1.5 has another chapter! I really love this chapter, because when i was revamping these chapters, i wondered why Mary hadn't been in some of the scenes i loved in Avengers. So added those scenes! Also i really wanted to detail and explain her alias as Elizabeth Bryne for you guys and for the team who didn't know already.
I really hope you guys like the edits/revamp like i do!
