Mary and Steve are shoved into Schmidt's lab roughly by Hydra Agents, she winces as her knees come into contact with the hard floor, Steve glances at her briefly, making sure she's okay.

Schmidt walks up to them, hatred in his eyes, only to be given the same look by the female in front of him, he sees the pure hatred in her eyes as she stares back at him.

"Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait, but I must say you two do it better than anyone else." Schmidt says to the siblings, then looks at Steve, "But there are limits to what even you can do, Captain. Or did Erskine tell you otherwise?" He quips, looking the two of them over, "Erskine's little assistant." He murmurs, gripping her chin roughly, she yanks her head away from the man.

"You don't deserve to speak his name." She snaps, "Not after what you've done to him and his legacy."

"Ah, but i've come across information that says you are his legacy." Red skull states, "You were given his formula for the serum, were you not?"

Mary's eyes widen, looking up at Red Skull, her mind trying to process how he got ahold of that information, Erskine was so careful when he gave it to her, and she had been even more careful, burning it after she had locked it into her memory.

Steve hesitates, then tries to get the conversation back onto him, "He told me you were insane." He states to Schmidt, drawing the man's attention.

Schmidt goes over to a table, picking up a syringe filled with a blue liquid, "Ah. He resented my genius and tried to deny me what was rightfully mine." He asks them, walking back to them, grabbing Mary, Steve shouts in protest then watches in horror as Schmidt injects the liquid into his sister.

Mary screams in pain, feeling a burning sensation flow through her body, Schmidt throws her to the ground, knocking her unconscious.

Schmidt laughs maniacally, then turns to Steve, "He gave you and your sister everything. What makes you so special?"

All Steve can see is red as he looks at his unconscious sister, praying that her and the baby are okay after whatever Red Skull had done to her. "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." He grits out, his jaw clenched tightly.

The Hydra agents pull him up, holding him by his arms as Schmidt goes on to beat Steve black and blue. Steve breathes heavily, looking up at Red Skull, "I can do this all day." He states, seeing Mary begin to stir, unbeknownst to Schmidt.

"Oh, of course you can. Of course. But unfortunately I am on a tight schedule." Schmidt says as he grabs a pistol, aiming it at Steve's forehead, he prepares to shoot when Steve breaks free from the agents' hold.

"So are we!" He shouts as he punches Schmidt and the agents as Dum Dum, Jones and Falsworth zip line through the glass wall, starting to shoot at all the agents in the room.

Falsworth throws Steve his shield as he rushed to Mary, "Rogers! You might need this!" He exclaims.

Steve catches his shield with ease as he scoops up his sister, "Thanks!" He shouts back as he looks her over as her eyes open.

"Steve?" She mumbles, her breathing is shallow, but she's alive, which mean that hopefully the baby is too.

"I've got you, let's get you to Peggy and Phillips." He tells her as they run out of Schmidt's lab.

The two siblings eventually reach a hallway, but a Hydra agent with a flamethrower blocks their way, Steve shields Mary and himself from the blasts.

Soon they hear gun shots, the brother turns to look at who shot the agent, smiling as he sees Peggy, he smiles at her, breathing a bit out of breath, "You're late." He tells her, repeating what she said years ago to him when he rescued Bucky's infantry. "Please, take Mary." He tells her.

Peggy's eyes widen, nodding, "Of course! What happened?"

"Schmidt injected her with something.. i don't know what it was but it was painful, she screamed and then Schmidt knocked her unconscious." Steve explains, "She's breathing.. so that's good.."

Peggy nods slowly, taking Mary into her arms, looking at him, "Weren't you about to.." She trails off.

Steve nods, "Right!" He shouts, kissing Mary's forehead before going to chase after Schmidt.

Peggy rushes to the hanger, seeing Phillips in a roadster, "Where did you find this?" She asks as she places Mary into the backseat carefully.

Phillips's eyes widen at the sight of the nurse, she's pale, and sweating, he knew some medical facts, and he knew she had a fever. A bad one.

"Does it matter? What happened to Barnes?" He asks Peggy as they speed off to catch up to Steve.

"Schmidt did something to her." Peggy states, "Steve doesn't know what he did to her." She adds, holding Mary's head in her lap, brushing the hair from her face.

They soon catch up to Steve, "Get in!" Peggy yells at him, Steve nods, quickly jumping into the passenger seat, looking over at Mary, taking in her state as Phillips pushes a button in the car, making it go faster then they all thought was possible for a car to go.

Steve spots Schmidt's giant plane as they get closer, "Keep it steady!" He shouts, getting ready to jump onto the plane.

"Wait!" Peggy shouts, gaining Steve's attention, Mary opens her eyes to see Peggy grab her brother's suit, pulling his face to hers, their lips connect.

Mary smiles, "Leap of faith." She murmurs, her body still feels like it's on fire and under ice at the same time.

Her brother and best friend break apart to see Mary smiling up at them, "Go get them." She breathes out, her breathing still shallow and ragged.

Steve looks at Phillips, "I'm not kissing you!" The Colonel shouts.

Steve smiles briefly, "i'll be back." He promises, jumping off the car and onto the plane just before it takes off. Phillips quickly spins the car around before it has the chance to fall off the cliffside. They watch the plane take off with their friend on it.

"I knew you liked my brother." Mary teases, causing Peggy's cheeks to turn a shade of pink.

Mary blinks her eyes open, the pain finally had subsided, now all she felt was grief, it had been a week since Peggy broke the news to her about Steve. He had crashed the plane into the Atlantic Ocean so save America and the world. Her brother was a hero to the nation, but all Mary felt was grief and pain in her heart knowing the only family member she had left, was the one inside of her, still growing strong from what the doctor had told her a few days ago.

She looked around her hospital room, Peggy and Howard were the most frequent visitors, giving her updates about what's happened with everything in the world.

Her Commandos also visited regularly, making her smile when she needed cheering up. Which she needed most days now.

Soon, months go by. Mary was now living with Howard. He wanted to make sure she had the best doctors for when the baby came, it was September, she was now seven months along with her pregnancy.

Howard comes into the nursery room he, Peggy, Jarvis(Howard's butler), Mary were decorating and furnishing for the upcoming Barnes baby.

"Ree! The war's over!" Howard exclaims, Mary widens her hazel eyes, Jarvis helping her out of the rocking chair she was in.

She walks over to Howard, "What? Are you sure?" She asks, he hands her the newspaper, she reads it over. A grin forming on her face, "It truly is over.. Baby Barnes wont grow up in a world full of war." She mumbles, tears clouding her eyes, sets the paper down, wrapping her arms around Howard.

Howard nods, "No, they wont. I'll make sure of it, Peggy and Jarvis to." He states

Over the last six months Mary had grown very fond of the butler, he was caring, he gave her advice when she needed it most.

"Thank you, Vis." She states to Jarvis, smiling at his nickname she had given him.

He nods, smiling at her, "Anytime, Mrs Barnes." He replies as he sets the teddy bear into the crib, "Is that all for the nursery?" He asks

Mary nods, "It's perfect. Thank you."

Northwell Hospital, New York City
November 22nd, 1945.
4:45am

Dear James, my beloved husband,

We have a daughter, born on Thanksgiving. She's named Rebecca Sofia Barnes, like we agreed on. She's seven pounds and eleven ounces, healthy baby girl in every way.

I went into labor during Thanksgiving dinner with the Commando's, Peggy and Howard as we were all saying what we were thankful for, i had said i was thankful for you, because without you, i wouldn't have known what pure, true love is. Everyone but Peggy naturally started to panic, rushing me to the hospital.

Howard was frantic, making sure everything was paid for, Peggy was by my side through the whole labor. 12 hours your daughter took to be brought into this world. The Commandos were made to wait in the lobby with Howard, all of them pacing until Peggy came out and told them the news.

She is worth everything and more, she already has five uncles that will do anything for her and take down any boy that looks her way.

I named Peggy and Howard her god parents, knowing that they will give her the world and more.

I wish you were here with me, but i'll always have a part of you in our beautiful baby girl. Our little Becca.

If you were here with me, you would've never let anyone else hold her. Being the protective daddy i know you would've been. The only person who would've fought you tooth and nail to hold Becca would be Peggy. She wouldn't go down without of a fight.

She has your eyes, your nose, your everything. She's a mini you. And i couldn't be more pleased with that outcome.

The doctors will be in soon to check up on me and Becca, so i should rest now.

I love you with every fiber of my being, James. You're my one and only. No one will ever compare to you for as long as i live.

My eternal love,
Your Little Nurse, Mary Barnes.

Mary folds the letter up as she sets the pen down, looking up as Peggy walks in to her room, smiling.

"I had to see you two before i went home for the day." She says, smiling at Becca sound asleep in her cot next to her Mother's bed.

"She's absolutely stunning, Mary. Truly." Peggy whispers, not wanting to wake the baby up.

Mary smiles, "James and I did good.. he'd be so happy to see her." She murmurs, tears falling from her hazel eyes. "But he can't."

Peggy goes to sit down at the foot of the bed, placing her hand on Mary's blanket covered legs, "He is here." She states, "He's in Becca, he's apart of Becca." She reminds Mary

The new mother nods, "He should still be here though. Him and Steve both should've been here." She replies

"I agree. Which is why i thought this would help." Peggy says, pulling out a framed picture of Steve and Bucky, one that Mary had taken. New Year's Day, 1945. Her and Bucky's wedding. Both men in the picture had grins so big that it reached past their eyes.

Mary smiles, "Thank you, Peg.." she mumbles, "Thank you for everything."

Three years later

"Howard! Can i have that sample back please?" Mary asks, smiling down at Becca as she chews on her stuffed bear in her play pen.

Howard and Peggy had noticed that Mary wasn't aging, three years may not be a long time to figure that out, but it was just enough for those two to notice.

"Sure thing!" He states, kissing Becca's head as he passes by her, handing Mary back the sample of her blood.

"You think the key of figuring out what's wrong is in your blood?" He asks her

The nurse nods, "I do, i'm sure of it." She replies, putting the slide back under the microscope, hesitating as she looks through the glass, "You sure this is mine?"

Howard cocks an eyebrow, nodding, "100% positive." He states, "Why?"

Mary shakes her head, "No.. it's nothing.. least it shouldn't be.." she trails off, looking back at the slide through the microscope.

Howard leans his forearms on the table, "What're you trying to say, Ree?"

"My blood isn't moving. Like it's frozen." She states, looking at him, "I have your blood sample for comparison. If you look at yours, it moves."

Howard looks her over, "Are you trying to say that the reason you're not aging is because somehow your body is frozen?" He asks.

Mary nods, "Schmidt injected me with a liquid, he wanted to see what it would do to someone." She explains.

"Go on, Ree."

"Howard.. I think I'm immortal."
