The Kensington Marketplace
From Earls Court Road, you and Freddie turned on to Kensington High Street. He immediately filled with excitement, this was where all the best clothing stores were. People were everywhere on the streets, bustling in and out of stores. Girls in beautiful dresses walked out of a few small dress emporiums, a few cars drove down the street with teenagers stacked up in the back seat, and out of the top floor of one of the buildings, you could have sworn you heard some Beatles album playing. It was so picturesque.
You passed a Marks and Spencer advertising the St. Micheal 'Terylene' fashion line and a Daniel Neal children's store that was going out of business. Everything around you was just so fascinating. You would try to cover it up, but Freddie too was enamored with it all.
Then you both came across the Biba store, it wouldn't be long before Freddie would meet Mary there. One thing you began to realize that keeping Freddie's timeline intact wasn't necessarily a matter of not telling him about his future, it also meant making sure certain events in his life happened. He couldn't be preoccupied trying to take care of you, he'd have to go live the life he was destined to live. You'd have to make sure that certain events did happen, no matter the cost.
"The market is just a few stores down darling," Freddie said as he turned back to you, most-likely noticing you eyeing some of the items in other shop windows as you passed them.
"Oh yes of course," you answered catching up to Freddie.
You continued your way down the street until you found it, the three-story Kensington Market.
"Come on in dear, you're going to love it," Freddie said as he grabbed your hand and led you in through the door.
You weren't sure if it was the charm of being led by Freddie's hand that excited you more or the sheer enormity of the building when you walked in, but you were enthralled. As far as the eye could see there was clothing booth after clothing booth, people came rushing past while other simply stopped and stared at some items. It was extremely colorful and massive and it seemed almost inconceivable that their could be three stories of this.
Freddie led you over to a booth with a lot of women's clothing.
"Pick out anything you like," said Freddie as he gestured towards the booth. You smiled and walked around glancing at all sorts of shirts and pants. Freddie followed behind you for a while but soon ventured off by himself.
You grabbed a couple blouses and a few skirts and pants, you were looking for the cheapest option. You were looking at a lovely little yellow top at the edge of a small little booth when suddenly Freddie came around the corner with an armful of clothing.
"Wow, Freddie," you laughed, "that sure is a lot of clothing" He had almost a ridiculous amount considering his small figure.
"You better be sure to try it all on for me," he said with a glimmer in his eye and a smile.
"Wait, all that is for me?" you exclaimed. You knew Freddie was an avid shopper and had a taste for fashion but this sure was a lot of clothing .
"Of course dear!" he shouted almost dropping a few items, "Now shall we got to the changing rooms?"
"Sure," you replied.
Freddie marched his way through the whole marketplace with his giant pile clothing. He found an empty stall and placed your clothing inside.
"Now I'll just sit out here and you can give me a little show," said Freddie sitting down and smiling up at you.
You stepped inside the changing room and locked the door. You tired on a few blouses and skirts, always opening up the door to show Freddie. He almost always approved with a big smile. Every now and then he had a slight suggestion on what would match better with what. You were nearing the end of the massive pile of clothing, but then you heard a knock on the door.
"y/n, here try this on for me," said Freddie as you opened up the door a crack to be handed a beautiful floral dress and some flats to go with it. He somehow managed to find exactly your size.
You slipped on the dress and it fell very smoothly over you. You put on the flats and opened up the door.
Freddie smiled up at you and just sat there for a second looking at you.
"Beautiful," he said looking at you with eyes that made you melt, "Well, give us a spin dear"
You spun around for Freddie as the bottom of the dress flew up just ever so slightly.
"I love it Freddie," you said smiling at him.
"It's perfect," he smiled back, "Well, shall we? You could just wear the dress out, it looks exquisite" He got up and grabbed the pile of clothing you decided to buy.
"Alright," you said as you picked up your old clothing from inside the changing room, "Don't you want anything?" you asked him.
"No dear we were shopping for you," he replied.
"Here how about this," you said picking a brown hat with a small feather up off the shelf. Freddie put it on his head.
"Well this is fun isn't it," he laughed and posed with the hat for a second.
"You should get it," you said and smiled, "Just for fun"
"Well if you think I should, then I will," said Freddie raising his chin up and continuing to pose with the hat, making you smile more.
You and Freddie walked up to the registerer and paid for the clothing. It wasn't as expensive as you had thought but Freddie as obviously spoiling you. You put all the clothes in a bag and together walked out of the store and down the street. Together you and Freddie made your way down to the bus stop all aglow. Freddie with his new hat, a glimmer in his eye, and a wide smile and you in your new floral dress, flats, and a smile to complement Fred's. You both took your seats on the bus and smiled at each other, overjoyed.
