Chapter 2 (Piper PoV)

A flash of light.

That was all Piper could see until her vision cleared up. She didn't see any sign of the others so she decided to have a look around. She saw that she was in the middle of a city. That in itself wasn't odd. But as Piper looked closer at her surroundings, she noticed the buildings' style was old, but looked new. There also weren't any skyscrapers to be seen on the horizon. And lastly, the clothes weren't in the style of the 21st century. The women here wore corsets and gowns and the men wore coats and breeches.

Where could we be? And why do they all dress like that? What is this, Hamilton? Piper thought. If that was the case, she probably looked ridiculously out of place here. Aside from Annabeth and Hazel, she'd be the only girl wearing pants. But nobody was giving her any funny looks. That didn't make sense. Unless...

She looked at her arm and instead of seeing a t-shirt's sleeve, she was looking at a tightly fitted long pink sleeve with lace at the end. What?! She checked the rest of her clothes. Yep, definitely women's clothing circa 1770s except for her shoes. Those were normal flats. Thank the gods, she wouldn't have to walk around in heels all day. So, she got zapped by one of Leo's crazy contraptions and ended up in 1700s New York wearing time period-appropriate clothes. How did that happen? Suddenly, she heard a voice behind her. "Huh? Where are - oh gods. I'm wearing a dress. How did this happen?! Aphrodite, was this your doing?!" "Annabeth?" Piper said, turning around to see her friend in an outfit similar to hers, except Annabeth's sleeves were only up to her elbows (though still topped off with lace) and her dress was blue-gray. "Hi Piper. Could you please explain why in Hades am I dressed in 1700s attire?" Annabeth replied. "I actually have no idea how this happened," Piper admitted.

The two were silent until Annabeth asked, "Hey, where's Hazel? Hazel? Where are you?" "There she is! At least, I think it's her..." Piper pointed to a girl in a yellow dress some feet away. Beside her was a boy with curly hair wearing a coat, breeches and boots. They seemed to be talking about something. "Oh my gods. Is that Leo I see?" Annabeth grinned. Piper laughed. "Probably. C'mon, let's go." They made their way towards them. When the two girls were behind the pair, Annabeth tapped the girl's shoulder. "Hazel?" She said. The girl turned around and it was, in fact, Hazel. Her dress was exactly like Annabeth's except for the color, which was yellow. "Piper! Annabeth!" Hazel grinned and tackled them in a hug. When Hazel finally stopped hugging them to pieces, Annabeth smiled and poked the boy's back.

"C'mon Leo, we all know it's you."

"Really?"

"Yep."

"Aw man." He turned around. "I wanted to be dramatic with my reveal, maybe I could -"

"No."

"Fine. Hey, where's the machine that brought us here in the first place? Did it break? Did you break it?" He looked suspiciously at the three girls. "No, Leo, it's perfectly intact," Hazel said. "And how do you know this?" Leo questioned. Piper said, "Leo, it's right beside you. How could it be broken?" "Oh." Leo facepalmed. Sure enough, the machine (now known to be a time machine) was right beside Leo, forgotten in all the confusion following them getting zapped into the Revolutionary Era. Leo bent down and inspected it for dents, then gasped. "No wonder we traveled to this time period! Guys, come look at this!" He bounced back up, his coat flapping. The girls bent down to see what Leo was talking about. Kinda hard to when you're wearing a really long poofy dress. Leo pointed to a small display on the side of the machine. "See? I think that sets the year." The display read: 1776. "So Piper and I were right, we are in the Revolutionary Era. But where are we?" Annabeth thought aloud. Piper said, "I don't know, I'll just assume we're still in New York." "We are in New York, Piper." Leo said.

"How do you know?"

"Uh, the other display on the machine says so?" Leo replied, tapping another display. This one read: New York City.

"Oh."

Anyway, let's go find everyone else." said Hazel. Huh, Piper thought. There's something about the year and the location, something familiar, but what is it?  She shrugged. Probably just déja vu. I'll think about that later. She turned and followed her friends.
