"i present to you," kuroo announces, holding up a few pieces of paper, stapled together, "our adoption form."
"it came?" oikawa asks excitedly, jumping up.
"yep," he grins, pulling oikawa next to him as he sits down on the couch, "wanna start filling it in?"
"fuck yes," oikawa grins, "tetsu, we're actually making this happen."
"we're actually making this happen," he confirms, "now, what's your name again?"
"haha, funny."

"hi, you must be yamaguchi-san," oikawa smiles as he opens the door for a freckled man.
"yes! nice to meet you, thank you for having me," he replies, entering as oikawa invites him in, "you are..?"
"ah, kuroo-oikawa tooru, my husband tetsurou's in his study, shall i go get him?"
"please," he replies. oikawa excuses himself and quickly hurries to kuroo.
"babe? he's here."
"sweet," kuroo grins, getting up. he quickly kisses oikawa's cheek, tells him "it's gonna be fine", and leads him out again.
"yamaguchi-san, nice to meet you," he smiles cheerfully as they bow to each other.
"likewise," he chuckles, "you seem to have a nice place. mind showing me around?"
"sure thing, come along."
the two show yamaguchi around, through the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, study, and designated baby room.
"this," oikawa smiles, "would be the nursery."
"it's a nice space," yamaguchi nods, "there's no stairs throughout the place, so that's a plus, and it's still a very spacious apartment. this is a great room. i'm impressed."
"we were very lucky to get this so quickly when it came up for sale," kuroo comments, "we've been living here since i left for university."
"ah, i see, a very nice place indeed," he comments, "you were lucky. anyway, i'd like to finalize some stuff you've already mentioned in your files. it's always important we properly screen our families and their backgrounds to ensure the children get the best possible living environment."
"of course, let's sit down at the kitchen table," oikawa says, already leading the other two out of the room.
yamaguchi sits down across from them, pulling out some documents from his briefcase, briefly taking a few notes before pulling out another blank page, smiling up at them. "so, overall, you two seem to be fitting. no criminal records, or any strange history, but there is one thing i'd like to discuss. kuroo-oikawa tooru-san, it states here that you suffered from tricuspid atresia up until a few years ago?"
"yes," he smiles, "i was born with it, sadly. but tetsurou himself actually created the possibility for me to have proper surgery. he himself helped and i now have a synthetic valve in place of the wall that was there before, and i haven't had any issues since."
"anything serious that happened in the past?"
"i had a stroke once. that was just over eleven years ago, with no problems since."
"i see. so you're officially cured?"
"i'm officially cured."
"well, i'm glad to hear that." he writes two short sentences down before looking up at them again. "tell me about your motivation to adopt."
"well, obviously it'd be impossible for us to have children of our own, seeing as we're both men," kuroo states. "we never really thought about it as newlyweds. last year, around christmas, when two friends of us announced they would be adopting, we suddenly realized that now that he was healthy, it wasn't impossible for us anymore. we're very happy as we are, but we feel like now that he's cured, we should enter another phase of our life. and after witnessing the joy a child brings... we want that joy for ourselves, and we want to make sure a baby that's born into an impossible situation gets the love they possibly can't get from their mother, for whatever reason that may be."
"and your financial position..?"
it's another half hour until yamaguchi leaves, fully informed, with seemingly only positive comments leaving his lips. when he leaves, he winks, telling them they'd be hearing from him soon.
"how soon would that be?"
"we've had our eyes on you for a certain mother for a short while now. she selected you herself, so possibly within three weeks we can arrange for you all to meet and discuss what needs to be discussed."
"thank you very much!" oikawa says, bowing before he leaves with a friendly wave.
kuroo exhales audibly, and oikawa stretches his arms.
"god, i think we did great," oikawa sighs, "i was so nervous."
"we did great, they already have someone for us," kuroo smiles, kissing his cheek, "it's all becoming real."

oikawa and kuroo decide to meet up with the birth mother at her place. it's a short drive, so they're over at her place in no time.
"hello! you must be the kuroo-oikawa's," she smiles, bowing to them, "my name's naomi asuka, though you already know that. feel free to call me whatever."
"i'm tooru," oikawa introduces himself, "and this is tetsurou. just use our first names; it's less confusing."
"in that case, asuka will do. please, come in," she smiles, stepping aside for them. they thank her, and slip their shoes off quickly before hanging up their own coats, as kuroo insists, being the gentleman he is.
"we can sit in the kitchen. would you like tea?"
"green will be fine," kuroo confirms, "for the both of us."
"that i can supply you with," she tells them, leading them to the kitchen, where they sit down.
"you have a nice place," oikawa compliments, looking around, "very earthly. i like the plants."
"thank you! i think plants add personality. i prefer them over most decorations," she tells him, "plus, i can get all the herbs i need fresh from my own kitchen, which i love."
"tetsu, we're getting herb plants."
"mirai is not going to agree."
"mirai?" naomi asks, setting two mugs down on the counter as the water heats up.
"she's our cat," oikawa smiles, "good with humans, bad with plants."
"i'd have a cat if i had the cash," she chuckles, "but i guess that's the case for a baby, as well. which is what we probably should be discussing."
"probably," kuroo laughs, "what would you like to know?"
"well, mostly i just want to get a grip of your personalities," she says as she pours in the tea, "i've met with four other couples but so far, i haven't found... the right parents. i'd prefer to raise this baby myself, but with my current major and student loans, i can't possibly afford it. so i want to only let people i'm completely sure of adopt him."
"it's a boy?"
"yes, i decided to test it anyway a week ago," she smiles.
oikawa squeezes kuroo's hand. this was getting even better.
"when's your due date?"
"thirteenth of january," she says, setting their tea down for them, "it's close, i know... it'll be a rush to get everything in order."
"we have the time to do it," oikawa assures her, "all we want is for you to feel comfortable with your decision and to have a clear agreement on what's going to happen."
"all i want is a safe and pleasant environment for him," she replies.
"that we can take care of. definitely," kuroo says. she averts her eyes.
"hey, asuka..." oikawa says, "you're scared, aren't you?"
she looks up at him. "how did you guess?"
"you really care for him. it's obvious. i don't know who the father is or what that situation is, but... it's understandable. you're allowed to feel what you're feeling."
"the father... we hooked up. and it broke. he was probably the best person i've ever had in my entire life. he was so careful and... dark, at the same time. he was perfect. but he lives somewhere in seoul for his job and i have no means of contacting him, nor do i feel that he needs to know."
"that's rough," oikawa says sympathetically, "did you know him for a long time?"
"we had a week long affair after my ex broke up with me. i was on holiday in seoul by myself, just to get out of here for a while, and i met him. when i came back, i was surprised with a baby."
"you know, we won't make you cut off all contact," kuroo says, "we're fine with it being out in the open, and you two spending time together."
"no," she says firmly, "i won't say no if he wants to see me, but i want him to be raised by his adoptive parents only. me being in the mix will only complicate things. it's my way of letting go of a lot of things." she looks up at oikawa. "sorry, i usually don't open up this much to people..."
"it's a good thing! clear communication will only make this easier," he assures her. "look, you let us know whatever it is you want us to do, and we'll be happy to oblige. we just want to make a kid happy and be happy ourselves in the process."
"that's a huge relief," she sighs happily, laughing softly, "thank you for your honesty and your support. and for being here for him."
"you mean..."
"i thought you two would be good from your files, but this confirms it. i'd be happy to let you be the adoptive parents."

"we're gonna be parents!" oikawa squeals as he jumps up into kuroo's arms as soon as they arrive home.
"god, i'm glad this worked out," he laughs, catching him clumsily.
"she's really nice. and the father seems to be a good guy too, from what we've heard. i'm so happy i honestly can't function."
"she reminded me of you," kuroo smiles.
"she did? how?"
"just... your vibe. you have the same honesty and willingness to talk, to have things clear and organized, with the right amount of passion. you both know what you want. you have a similar feel to you."
"i'm glad. i'm so happy. two more months and we're gonna have our very own baby."

sugawara and oikawa are good friends.
"koushi!" oikawa says cheerfully as he spots him in the grocery store, "haven't seen you in two weeks!"
"tooru?" he asks, surprised, "you're right, what's up?"
"adoption stuff," he chuckles, "it's tiring but rewarding."
"how long again?"
"one and a half months," he says, and his face visibly perks up, "would you like to go for coffee sometime? i feel like we haven't spoken properly in ages."
"sure thing! we could go now."
"good idea, i have nothing planned for this afternoon," oikawa smiles, "i'll have all of my stuff in two minutes."
"let me join you, i have everything already."
they head over to a small café three minutes away and sit down, both ordering a hot chocolate. it's one of their many similarities.
"so, how're you and koutarou?"
"very good," he smiles, "i didn't think i'd find someone i'd want to settle down with anymore. when i was twenty-nine, i kind of... gave up. everyone was maturing too quickly. there was no adventure left to find. but with him, i found that, and i'm happy i did, because settling down is exactly what i needed."
"you have matured," oikawa nods, "not as if you weren't mature before. but you have a different feel to you."
"i have matured. i had to, with koutarou around, honestly. it's a good feeling."
"are you two planning on stepping it up?"
"no. i don't think marriage is ever going to happen," he says surely, "we're both adventurous. we don't want that. it's like bokuto said, as long as i'm happy with what i do, he is too. i feel the same for him."

"kazuhiko," oikawa says. kuroo looks up at him.
"what?"
"his name. kazuhiko."
"kazuhiko..." kuroo ponders, "it sounds nice. kuroo-oikawa kazuhiko. i can roll with that."
"you can?"
"i like it. it sounds good. i like the meaning."
"finally," oikawa groans, "twelve days before due date and we have a freaking name."
"we are so talented."
15-1-2032
at five pm, kuroo's holding a little baby boy wrapped in a pastel yellow blanket, sitting in a chair in the corner of a hospital room. the nurse just finished her check-ups, and oikawa's arranging some form of documents with the staff, leaving kuroo with their child.
"hey there buddy," he whispers as he strokes his cheek softly, unable to take his eyes off of him, "how're you doing, little guy?" he blinks twice, before widening his eyes, opening and closing his mouth once, eyes on his dad.
"god, you're adorable," he chuckles, taking his little hand and placing a kiss against the tip of plump, little fingers, "your other dad's gonna be back soon, hmm?"
kazuhiko makes a soft sound, writhing slightly in his arms.
"you sure are energetic," he laughs softly, voice never louder than a whisper, "you're gonna make us so happy, buddy, so happy."
the door opens, and oikawa appears, walking over to the two. he kneels down in front of the chair, level with kazuhiko.
"he's so precious," oikawa remarks.
"he is," kuroo replies. "tooru, we're gonna raise a great fucking baby."
"that's reassuring to hear. let's just make it home alive first."
