Girl Meets Sneak Attack.
Her outfit is up top!
Emily's POV
I walk to Riley's apartment, I live right down the hall, so it doesn't take me long. I knock on the door and Riley answers. She let's me in. I put my school bag on her chair.
"I love a sunny day. I love my friends." She says. The intercom buzzes. "I love my family. I love a sunny day." She hugs her father. "I even love going to school." She sit's down and I follow, sitting next to her.
"Okay, what's going on with her?" Mr. Matthews asks.
"I don't know. I just got here." I say.
"I don't know. Don't do anything." Her mother says.
"I'm in a good mood." She snaps her fingers. "This life thing? I think I got it down." Riley says. Maya and Farkle walk in.
"Maya, oatmeal." Topanga says as she puts a bowl down in front of me then one in front of Riley.
"No thanks, Mrs. Matthews." She say to Riley's mom.
"Oh, I wasn't asking." Mrs. Matthews says.
"Yeow." She walks over to the table and sits next to me.
"Farkle, you too." Riley's mother says.
Farkle closes the door. "Thank you. But my mother already made me eggs, home fries, wheat toast, marmalade and a strawberry shaped like a star."
"I'm going to the Farkle's. Who's with me?!" Auggie and Maya go to stand up.
"Sit down. Eat it, please." She says to us. Maya and Auggie sit back down.
"But it's still this." Auggie says and gestures to the oatmeal.
"Hey, Auggie, guess what? It's Googly time." Mr. Matthews says. He goes to turn on the TV but Mrs. Matthews stops him.
"No TV at the table." She says.
"You're right, Topanga. This table is about the discussion of today's events only. Riley." He says.
"I woke up. I love everything. I sat here.
"All caught up. Googly time!" He turns on the TV.
All of them except Auggie and I start saying the theme song in unison. "Here comes Mr. Googly and his foogly boogly friends."
Auggie turns off TV. My eyes widen, this is his favorite show. All, except Auggie and I, complain in unison. "Hey!"
"I'm too old for Mr. Googly." He says and walks over to the couch.
"What?" His mom asks, following him.
"But, Auggie, Mr. Googly's your best friend." Mr. Matthews says.
Topanga picks up a Mr. Googly doll, and pretends to be it. "Auggie, I'm your foogly boogly best friend."
Auggie starts talking to Mr. Googly. "Can I tell you a secret?"
"Of course. You can tell Mr. Googly all your secrets." She continues to still be the doll.
"I have a new best friend now." Auggie says to the doll.
"Oh really? Who would that be?" 'The doll' says.
"I don't wanna tell you who she is." Auggie says to the doll.
"She?" All except Auggie and Mrs. Matthews asks in unison.
"I've said too much." Auggie says to the doll.
"Okay, why don't you tell Mr. Googly all about your new best friend and none of us will listen." Mrs. Matthew say and me, Riley, Maya, Farkle, Cory and Topanga look away.
"I'm" He holds up five fingers. "this many. I'm done with you now. Goodbye." He puts the doll on the couch.
"They grow up so fast." Riley says.
Maya, Riley and I are walking in the hallway. I look into our class and see Lucas and Missy, flirting.
"I was so worried about this new school year. New school, new people, I didn't think I was going to survive. Not only am I surviving, I'm thriving. I'm like a plant going like this." Riley does an awkward pose. "What was I so worried about?" I nudge Maya and she looks at me confused, I nod my head to the room. Maya looks into the classroom and sees Missy flirting with Lucas, then covers Riley's eyes.
"What are you doing? Oh, this is too easy. It's Maya. I know because I saw you put your hand over my face. I'll do you now." She says and goes to cover Maya's eyes.
"Oh, that's not the game." I say.
"What's the game?" Riley says.
"The game is protect the plant from the bulldozer in the pink sweater." I say
"Oh, Emi, bulldozers don't wear pink..." She stops when she looks into the classroom and sees Missy flirting with Lucas. "Huh." She walks away from the door.
"You okay?" Maya asks her.
"Yeah." She slides down the wall until she's sitting.
Maya and I slide down next to Riley. "Oh, look what the bulldozer did to you." I say.
"There are other girls, in this world." Riley says.
"There are." Maya says to her.
"And other girls, like Missy Bradford, are going to talk to Lucas." Riley says.
"They are." I say.
"I don't like that." She replies.
"I know." I say.
"I wish the world was just us three." Riley says.
"Then it is." Maya and I say.
We're now in class.
"Sneak attack. December 7th, 1941." Mr. Matthews says.
"A date which will live in infamy." Farkle says.
"A date? They're going on a date? In Italy?" Riley asks. Still completely referring to Lucas and Missy.
"No, honey. You're in History." I say to her.
"I'm history?" Riley asks looling like a lost puppy.
"Okay, put your hand up." Maya lifts Riley's arm.
"Yes, Riley? You have a pertinent observation on the subject of the sneak attack?" Her father asks her.
""May I be excused?" Maya says to Riley so Riley would repeat what she said but it didn't work out.
"My eyes see my shoes." Riley says. I sigh. I look at Cory and point at Missy and Lucas, who are behind me.
"Yes, Riley, you may be excused." He says.
"Forever?" She asks hopefully.
"No, you have to come back to class at some point, honey. You just have to." He says then Riley leaves.
"It was another sunny day in paradise, before the sneak attack that changed everything." Mr. Matthews says.
"Do you like the movies? Dark at the movies." I hear Missy and Lucas' conversation considering he sits right behind me.
"Depends on the movie. Depends who I'm going with." He replies to her.
"Scary movies? I get scared at scary movies. You'll take care of me though, right?" She asks him.
"People who had viewed themselves as safe, no longer had any security at all." Mr. Matthews says.
"Just you and me, Missy?" He asks.
"Just you and me, Lucas." She taps Lucas's nose. "Boop." Oh god, I wanted to gag.
"Riley enters the classroom. "Boop? That's the best you got?"
"Please be cool, please be cool, please be cool." Maya and I are saying.
"You don't think that I can do boop?" Riley asks.
"How bad do you think this is gonna be?" I ask Maya and Farkle.
"I think we should have some faith in our Riley." Farkle says.
"I can do boop like you've never seen. Boop!" She turns to Lucas to tap his nose, but accidentally sticks her finger in his nose. "Does anybody see this?"
"Everybody sees this." Missy says/
"Take your finger out!" Maya says to Riley.
"Can't. Can't move. Scared." She pauses. "Do you think Lucas knows?"
"Riley, I've never seen anything like this before, I don't know what's gonna happen." Maya says.
"Emily?" She asks.
"I don't know kid. I don't know what's gonna happen." I say to her.
"Farkle?"
"Boy, Riley. I don't think I could do that even if I tried." He stands up. "Hey, Maya, boop. Oh no." He did the same thing Riley did but with Maya. I sigh and shake my head.
"The bombing of Pearl Harbor was our official entrance into a world at war, and nothing would ever be the same." Mr. Matthews says, completely ignoring the problem at hand.
After class, Riley is hiding in her locker.
"You want me to bring you lunch?" I ask her.
"No. Food would only keep me alive." She replies.
"Come on, little plant, come back into the sun." Maya says.
"I'm afraid something terrible will happen if I ever come out of here."
"Riley, that's crazy. Nothing could be worse than what's already happened." Maya says and laughs.
Missy walks up to us. "Oh, there you are. I've been looking for you. You're not upset with me, are you? Because I didn't hear that you and Lucas were together or anything."
"We're not." Riley says.
"Hmm, yeah, that's what I thought. So if you're not, then it's not a problem if I ask Lucas out, because he's really cute. Don't you think?" Missy asks.
"I loathe you." Maya says as I say. "I greatly despise you."
"Well, Lucas doesn't. In fact, I think he's kind of into me. Shocker." She says then leaves.
"I live here now." Riley says.
Later that night Maya, Riley and I are at Riley's window seat.
"I think of this as a personal challenge issued by Missy Bradford to grow up, and to grow up fast. So what do I do?" Riley asks us.
"Nothing." I say.
"Give me advice. You're a genius at this. Grow me up." Riley says to us.
"Why?" Maya asks.
"Because everybody else is."
"That's not the way I see it." Maya says.
"How can you see it any other way?" Riley asks.
"Missy Bradford has decided to grow up fast. That has nothing to do with you." I tell her.
"But what if Lucas takes her to a scary movie? "I get scared at scary movies. You'll take care of me, won't you?" Barf! Barf, I say!" Riley exclaims.
"Riley, do you want Lucas to take you to the movies?" I ask her.
"Alone? I don't know if I'm ready for that." She replies.
"Then what do you want from him?" I ask her.
"I don't know. I just, I don't want him with her. Am I jealous?" Riley asks us.
"You wouldn't know how to be jealous." Maya says.
"I just, I don't want him taken away from us. She's bad news. Teach me how to flirt." She then attempts to flirt.
"Not gonna do that." Maya says.
"Yeah, uh no." I say to her.
"Why not?" She asks us.
"We don't even know how to flirt. Who our age knows how to flirt?" Maya asks.
Farkle pops up from the window. "Hello, ladies." He enters.
"Farkle, you were out there?" Riley asks him.
"I'm always out there." Farkle says.
"Farkle, you're the biggest flirt in seventh grade." I say to him.
"Why, thank you." He says.
"Can you teach me how to flirt with Lucas?" Riley asks.
"I would do whatever you asked me." He replies.
"But I thought you loved her." I ask him.
"I love all three of you. I want you happy." He says. I smile.
At lunch the next day, Maya, Riley and I are sitting at our table.
"So you think he'll sit with us or, her?" I ask them.
"I try not to worry about things I have no control over." Maya says.
"Really? Because that's all I do." Riley says.
Farkle enters. "Hey, can I sit with you guys?"
"You better." Riley says.
"So you think he'll sit with us, or her?" Farkle asks.
"That's what I asked." I say.
Lucas walks up to us. "Hey, what's up? Is there a seat with you guys?"
"Always room for you, buddy." Riley says then turns to Maya, Farkle and I "I said "buddy" I'm not helping myself, am I?"
Missy enters. "Well, you know, I was just thinking that if you and I are going to the movies together, I should find out what kind of snacks you like so I could buy some for you." She walks Lucas over to another table. "Because, I wouldn't want you paying for everything."
"You're toast." Farkle says.
"I know."
"Are you saying she flirts better than you?" I ask Farkle.
"Oh, nobody's better than Farkle. I just don't think my young protege is ready for that monster." He says.
"So what are you gonna do, genius?" I ask him with a raised eyebrow.
"I think I'll just steal her from Lucas myself." He replies, I smirk.
"You would do that for me?" Riley asks him.
"Well, I'm certainly not doing it for me, toots. She's evil. If I'm not back in two minutes, she ate me. How's my hair?"
"Hasn't changed in six years." Mya tells him.
"She doesn't stand a chance." He says and walks over to them. "Hello, lady." He says to her.
"Farkle." She says to him. I tune out of the rust of their conversation.
Farkle soon comes back over. "It worked. I'm next."
"Riley, she's too good. You can't compete with her." Maya says.
"I don't want them together. I don't." Riley says then walks over to Lucas and Missy.
"Riley?" I ask her.
"Lucas." She says to him.
"Riley." He says to her.
"I don't know what's going on here and I don't have any right to say this, but I don't think you should hang out alone with this girl." She says to him.
"Why not?" He asks her.
"I don't really know, but I think, if you actually spend time with her alone it's gonna change things for you know, all of us." Riley says.
"Well, aren't you just a concerned friend?" Missy asks her.
"Yeah, I am." Riley says to her.
"Well, with you around, how could I ever possibly get Lucas alone?" She throws potatoes on Lucas' and her face. "Food fight!" Missy exclaims.
"Hey!" Lucas says, standing up as Mr. Matthews walks over.
"Oh boy." I mutter.
"No food fight! Detention this afternoon, both of you!" He says to the two with potatoes on their face.
"Oh no. Both of us. Alone." Missy says with a smirk.
Riley and Mr. Matthews are talking in his classroom, where I am sitting at my desk.
"How could you do that, Dad?" Riley asks her father as I put my feet on my desk watching them talk.
"What did I do?" He asks his daughter.
"You gave them detention together." Riley says.
"I was the cafeteria monitor. I saw potatoes not where potatoes are supposed to be. Detention him, detention her." He says.
"But Lucas didn't even do anything."
"Don't care. I'm mad with power." Mr. Matthews says.
"Then I want detention too." She says.
"You do? Riley, you've never had detention in your whole life. What could you possibly do that would get you detention on such short notice?" He asks her.
"I could introduce you to my special guest stars." She gestures to me and the door.
"Uh-oh." He says.
Maya enters, and jumps on Cory's back. "Nothing personal, bub."
He start to sputter gibberish. "Yeah, that'll do it." Maya hops off his back. "Nice job."
Maya shakes his hand. "Pleasure doing business with you."
He looks at me. "How are you gonna get detention?"
"Oh, I'm just gonna crash it." I say with a smirk.
"Okay." He says.
We are now at detention when Missy walks in. After a few, Lucas tries and offers us to go hang out with him and Missy but Missy says no.
"Grow up." Missy says then leaves the room.
"Not yet." Riley says.
"Oh she's leaving." Mr. Matthews says. He collects his stuff and is about to leave when he notices us still sitting in our seats. "You guys coming?" He asks us.
"No, not yet." Riley says and Mr. Matthews leaves.
