How to find a spider

"Natasha? Seriously?" Steve seemed surprised.

" Yep." Tony shrugged " Something about them being paired together an missions for shield before they became avengers,"

Sighing Steve ran a hand through his hair, "Well if we really want to get the story straight from the horse's mouth we better get on it. Natasha isn't one for sharing things she doesn't have to."

It was Tony's turn to sigh. " I'll check the gym, you check the firing range and we'll meet back here?"

"Sounds good." Was all Steve said before jogging of towards the firing range.

Tony wandered into the gym in a slow walk, he wasn't down here very often. Really only Natasha and Clint used it on a regular basis, Steve wasn't a fan of all the new tech so he tended to go out running for exercise,he liked to be out in the city. Thor didn't need a gym and Bruce was much happier in the lab, there was no stress down there. While His philosophy for exercise was why spend hours lifting weights and working when you can just build an Iron man suit that will be stronger than you'll ever be?

Usually the gym is filled with the sounds of clanking weights, tired grunting, smells similar to his high school gym locker and heavy metal rock and roll. But today it was a ghost town, everything was stacked neatly in its place and it even smelt faintly of lemons.

Natasha would literally kill for the gym to herself, he thought as he wandered idly between stacks of dumbbells. She would be having the time of her life in here with Clint...

Suddenly he cursed and kicked at the matted floor, Of course she isn't in here! She spent most of her time in here sparring with Bird-brain, if I was as close to him as we thought she was I wouldn't be anywhere near here!

He groaned and started stamping his way back upstairs.

Hopefully Steve is doing better than I am!

Steve was having just about as much luck as Tony was. He knew the second he opened the door that Natasha wasn't inside, there was no sound of gun shots or the tell tale smell of hot metal smoke. If Natasha was in here he should have been able to tell the moment he swung open the door.

He could've left right then but he decided to do a quick walk around, just incase he missed something that could tell him where she was.

As he wandered between the targets he felt his foot hit something, something small and made of metal.

Frowning he leaned down and picked them up. Dog tags? He thought looking at the medal tag. In the middle of one there was a hole about a centimeter wide. Steve rubbed at the layer of dust that was covering it like a blanket, it had obviously been here a very long time.

As the dust smudged away Steve saw in straight, uniform letters the words;

BARTON
CLINT F
B POS
NO PREFERENCE

It was a standard military tag, yet Clint was never in the military. Or was he? Steve was beginning to wonder how much of what little Clint said was true.

With that thought he stuffed the tags into his pocket and started to jog back to the common room, even more determined to find Natasha now.

Tony was already sitting on the couch with a glass a scotch when Steve arrived.

"Any luck?" Tony swished his drink around in his glass.

"Nope." He sighed plopping down on the couch next to him.

Just as Tony was about to speak a loud crash echoed throughout the house.
