Chapter 3

Outside rages a blizzard so strong that the familiar sight of our street has been almost erased. The flakes fall slowly and air is almost still, but it is so thick that it almost obscures the view completely. As I look upwards I feel almost as if I'm flying upward rather than watching the crystals fall, like oversized confetti, towards me. Looking down in my arms is my small baby girl.

Tiny fingers curl around my pinky. I watch the newborn peer through brand new eyes at what must be such a strange world after life in the womb. Her legs kick in a tiny jagged motion, looking for that resistance they are used to I guess, but finding nothing but air. I wonder if that's unsettling or a relief, it must have been pretty cramped in there. When she stretches her hands barely rise above her head and I think of how strange we'd all look if we kept those body proportions as we grew. She's so small and delicate like a glass doll, if I move I feel like I would break her. This is a new person, and I'm already filling up with love for her.

" Does she have a name? Because she can't be the girl with no one." He asks as he looks up at me. Now that she's here all the names I had faded away, a lot of things are different now.

" Do you have any ideas?" I ask, I think it would be best if he has a say in this.

" Oriana...?" He said, it sounded so pretty. Her name rolled off my tongue like a marble rolling around the floor. I couldn't get her out of my head, she was so beautiful, and her name was a piece of art. It was so perfect, I couldn't allow myself to speak, afraid I was going to embarrass myself.

" Oriana Syden Blain..." It was so unique, and I had never heard of a name like hers, a name like 'Oriana.'

" That's a- wait... you used my last name..." He was startled by the fact I used his last name.

" Well she is your baby..." I say in a fluster looking the other way. He places his hand on top of mine, our eyes meet again. " I want her to have your name, if that's okay with you?"

" I would love that... Oriana Syden Blain, you look just like your mother." Just by his words I start smiling like a fool, looking down at her closing her eyes my eyes start to water.

" I'm a mother... Wow I can't believe it." I wipe my eyes, and look back at him recalling his previous words. Looking back outside it seemed the snow had lightened a bit. " Does the phones work now?" Like lightning he shot up yo his feet running over to the phone dialing a number. Nodding his head yes and begins talking to the receptionist.

In no time the ambulance came with aggressive speed, the kind of sheer driving audacity that let everyone know the siren wasn't a polite request to move. Every head that was out in this horrible weather turned to follow the yellow and blue streak, unaware of the precious cargo inside.

Men outside working their hardest to get through the snow, looking out the window I see sweat dripping down their  foreheads. Oriana starts to cry, at the same time my stomach growls like an empty barrel, she must be hungry too. Taking out my breast I massage my nipple so she can drink. Her mouth finds the way, having her own little feast the men finally reached the door. Helping us into the ambulance, we make our way to the hospital.

Arriving there they put me in a wheelchair bringing me into a separate room, they said they needed to make sure everything was okay with Oriana so they took her away. They said as soon as they have records and fill out certain forms that would bring her back.

Dayton was in the waiting room filling out forms, I kind of feel useless. The doctor comes in a few minutes later making sure everything goes all right with me, after he left Dayton came into the room with 2 cups of hot chocolate One with out and one with cream.

" You didn't forget." I took it from him laughing to myself.

"Of course I wouldn't, at least this is the better stuff." He he said, he sat next to me holding my hand making me feel safe and at home.

" I can't really believe this, the day that I met you again I had our baby." I said taking a sip. " It's kind of completely crazy." He nods agreeing with me.

" Seeing you again, it reminded me of first day I met you." He started to say but the nurse comes back with Oriana. She was so quiet, like a little angel. I still can't get over the fact that we're basically a family.

"You two look wonderful together, I'll come back later with supplies for the baby." The nurse says and then leaves. Hearing her a small complement, my cheeks turn red holding my little angel.

" I love you, with all my heart Oriana... and you too." He says and kisses both of our heads. If I could capture this moment, this would be the happiest moment of my life. The man of my dreams, my first love and my first child. This is a memory I'll never forget.
