Chapter 28 - "Oswald Heir..."

Chapter 28 - "Oswald Heir..."

April 1921

Clara's PoV

'Why is it their is always so much waiting around these things?' John scoffed as he paced up and down the drawing room waiting for some news - any news from upstairs.

'Everything will be fine' Richard said.

'How can you say that? The baby isn't even full term?' Her Father scoffed, as a nurse appeared in the drawing room with a smile on her face.

'Oh god? Is everything okay?' John stuttered, having dumped another layer of clothing in the sweaty nervous mess that he was.

'Everything is fine. Lady Clara is requesting your presence immediately'

'Why what's wrong?' Her Father asked.

'Nothing's wrong your lordship. Lady Clara successfully has had a baby. A little heir I hear' she chuckled.

'It was a boy?' John stuttered briskly racing up the stairs and opening the door without knocking because he was too impatient to wait, and couldn't help but smile at the bundle of joy that was in his bed.

'You had a baby?' Was all that John could stutter out nervously making me chuckle in tiredness.

'That I did. Come and meet your son' I smirked, enticing him in from the doorway to the bed.

'I don't want to disturb him'

'Don't be stupid. He's your son. Come and meet him' I scoffed, making him come much nearer to me and look over at the small baby I was cradling in my arms.

I wanted him to be the first to see him. The first person to get to hold him before he's whisked away to the nursery.

'He's amazing. He's got your nose' John said through a gushy voice, looking down on the small infant that lay so steadily between my arms.

'Do you want to hold him? Do you want to hold your son John?' I asked carefully as his eyes widened but his face perked up.

I sifted him over into John's arms so that I could lay down and close my eyes for a minute.

'What are you doing?'

'She's just had a baby John, she deserves at least a weeks rest and sleep' Lilly scoffed at him.

'Then you don't know Clara well at all. She'll sleep for a few hours and be up and about by tomorrow morning'

'No she won't' the nurse instructed. 'I'll be here making sure she doesn't even attempt to get out of bed before she's ready'

'I am here you know' I said rolling my eyes, as the whole room was suddenly bombarded with people.

'Please go away' I scoffed, closing my eyes once again. I really just wanted a moment alone with my husband and baby but that was obviously too much to ask.

'Give him here. Let me hold my grandson. Give me my little heir' Dad said suddenly gushing with pride.

It's hard to believe that six months ago he wouldn't let me marry John - and now he is just so over the moon a it having a grandson.

'Right everyone out. Let's give Miss Clara some time to sleep and recover' the nurse instructed, throwing everyone out of the room leaving just me and my baby.

I was more than annoyed that she had thrown John out, but I'd been told that he was practically camping on the stairs, just so that he could get in the room.

Of course as soon as the baby was whisked away and moved to the nursery all I wanted to do was sleep and not wake up for hours, thus the reason I snuggled up in the bed and fell asleep.

- - -

'So, to sum up. This is the nighttime. Because it's dark. So you should be asleep. But considering your doing the complete opposite... Maybe ill stay and keep you company?' John whispered, as he had snuck into the nursery that evening.

When he got to the nursery he wasn't at all surprised to find the nurse looking after the baby completely whacked out, while the new born fidgeted and got used to being in the outside world quietly.

John had sifted the little boy out of the cot and taken him straight to Clara's room.

John was originally disappointed to find Clara sound asleep, but then realised that she needed and deserved to sleep as long as she wants too, so started talking to the baby from the chair.

'You see... Some peoples will like you and some won't like you so much - and that's very much my fault... But I can assure you that your Mummy will look after you very well - so you won't need to worry about all the people that don't like you' John smiled as the baby closed his eyes.

'Is there a reason your talking to our baby as if I'm not in the room?' I asked as I sat up carefully having heard the entire conversation and not really wanting to disturb the adorable moment between father and son but had too.

It might be the only time I get to actually see John in the next few days so decided to make the most of his presence.

'No one would let me in so j had to sneak in. I guess you can say that I've abducted my own baby from the nursery room'

'Oh well. He is your son' I said, with the largest amount of pride on that. It seemed awfully strange to think that I'm 21 and a mother already. And that k have an amazing husband who's willing to do what he can for me and for our son.

I watched as John shifted himself from the chair and sat next to me on the bed and handed him to me.

'Does he have a name?' John asked. 'I mean we never really discussed names. We never had time. And I assumed that it would have to be a name that runs in the family?'

'It's doesn't no. But he does have a name yes. I wanted to go with John - but then o figured that might get a little confusing. So I went with George'

'Our little son George. I could get used to saying that' he smirked, kissing me gently, but nothing to enticing. I was just glad to have him here with me.
