Chapitre Trois
Marinette woke up at dawn, peaceful at first. Just like every typical morning. She looked around, confused. This wasn't her room. Why was Adrien sleeping on the floor next to her bed? Then it all came flooding back like a tidal wave. Marinette groaned as she was pained with a sudden headache. She was still in the past with Adrien Agreste who was also Chat Noir, and they had no idea how to get back to the present. Marinette slowly got out of bed, careful not to wake up Adrien, and got dressed in the clothes Madeleine had left for her. She then left the room and went to see who was awake.
"Morning beautiful!" Lisette winked from her spot on the chaise. She seemed at ease. Maybe that was just her character. That's what Marinette figured anyway.
"Good morning. Is anyone else awake?" Marinette asked, slightly annoyed. Lisette threw her hand to her chest and gasped dramatically.
"Why? Is my company not enough for you?" She teased. Marinette subtly rolled her eyes.
"I was just curious," she replied, trying to remain level-headed. Lisette sighed in mock relief.
"Good! I thought you didn't like me for a moment!" She winked. "Nobody else is awake. It's just you and me," she said flirtatiously. Marinette's face grew warm. Did Lisette have no shame?
"Well then. What's on the agenda for today?" Marinette asked, trying to turn the conversation away from where it was going. She made her way to the chaise, keeping her distance from Lisette as she turned to face her. Lisette smirked ever so slightly.
"Oh you know, saving the world, trying not to die, the fun stuff," she replied. Marinette sighed.
"That sounds like a lot of work!" She exclaimed, trying to be optimistic and open-minded about this woman. So far, Marinette was not a fan of Lisette.
"Trust me, it is!" Lisette exclaimed dramatically. Marinette bit back a retort. There was so much she wanted to say, but she decided it would be best to remain civil.
"So, Lisette, how were all of you chosen to become Miraculous holders?" Marinette asked.
"I don't really know. One day, I woke up with a box on my nightstand. I opened it and saw the comb and then Pollen. She scared the living bejesus out of me! She explained to me how everything worked. I then transformed and eventually met up with the rest of the guys. We all decided after a while that it would be a good idea if we all lived together. That way all seven of us could help pay for a tiny house and we'd all be together so we could openly talk about how we would do to help Paris. Recently, it's been a lot of damage control as far as riots go. The people of our estate have been getting angrier and angrier. I don't blame them. Marie Antoinette is a pathetic excuse for a person. So is King Louis XVI. Ugh! I can't wait to see their heads on pikes!" Lisette exclaimed. Marinette shrunk down into her seat. Was this how all of them thought? She didn't know there could be so much violence in one person!
"Well, I can't reveal anything that happens in the future because that could change the past, and that's not what I'm here for, but isn't that a little extreme? Also, isn't that treason?" Marinette asked nervously. Lisette scowled.
"I don't care. That is my opinion, and I will live with it! Who are you to judge me?" she asked accusingly. Marinette put her hands up in defense.
"I wasn't judging!" she exclaimed. Marinette was genuinely surprised at how fast Lisette's mood changed. "Hotheaded" was definitely a trait Lisette possessed. Good to know.
"Well, I'm going to go see if Adrien is awake yet, um, I'll talk to you later, I suppose," Marinette said quietly and excused herself. She practically ran back to the room she and Adrien shared.
"Adrien, you awake?" she whispered as she closed the door behind her. She knelt down to gently shake him awake. He groaned.
"Where am I?" he mumbled. Marinette stayed silent until it all hit him. He was quiet for a moment before she saw the horror on his face as he remembered the events of the previous day.
"Mari, how are we gonna get out of this mess?" He asked. Marinette blushed at the nickname.
"I don't know, Kitty. I don't know. It seems that we were brought here for a reason though, other than Hawkmoth's villain gone wrong. They need our help here. I was talking with Lisette earlier, and she said that the riots have been out of control recently. Also, it's only a few days away until October 5th. You remember what happens on that day, right?" Marinette asked. Adrien's eyes widened in horror.
"The Women's March. Or the Bread Riot. Whatever it's called. This is bad, Marinette," Adrien stated. Marinette nodded grimly.
"I know Lisette hates Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. I think we were sent here to prevent the death of the king and queen until it's supposed to happen," Marinette replied quietly. Adrien stayed silent for a moment.
"Ugh, I just wanna go home. I know that's kinda out of character, but this is just too much!" Adrien exclaimed. Marinette nodded in agreement.
"It sucks," she replied. They sat in awkward silence. After a while, Adrien spoke.
"So, are we gonna talk about the reveal?" He asked.
"Maybe tonight. I don't have the energy to discuss this right now. Besides, we need to focus on what might happen today. Lisette implied that riots are very frequent," Marinette replied, avoiding the subject.
"Okay then," Adrien replied. He sighed. All of the sudden he gasped.
"Do you think our phones work?" He asked, pulling it out. Marinette rolled her eyes.
"No, Doofus. There's not gonna be any reception," she replied. Adrien groaned.
"I'm gonna lose my Snapchat streaks!" He cried. Marinette narrowed her eyes.
"We have bigger problems than that!" She exclaimed. Adrien pouted.
"Yeah you're right," he sighed. Marinette shook her head.
"You are so annoying," she muttered. Adrien smirked.
"But you love me, Bugaboo!" He exclaimed. Marinette's face turned red.
"I don't l-love you!" She stammered. Adrien rolled his eyes.
"Don't deny it! Don't try to fight this and deal with it, it's just part of it!" He sang, referencing "I Don't Care" by Apocalyptica. (Sorry I couldn't help myself.) Marinette rolled her eyes at him.
"I can't even—" she trailed off, struggling to find words. Adrien laughed at her and gave her a somewhat platonic hug. She sighed and relented.
"Are you ready for what could come today?" Adrien asked. Marinette sighed again and shook her head.
"No, but is anyone ever ready?" she asked. Adrien smiled softly and replied;
"Fair point." They stood in silence for a moment. Before any more words could be exchanged between them, a scream followed by more yelling erupted from outside.
"Riot!" they both exclaimed at the same time.
"Tikki!"
"Plagg!"
"Spots on!"
"Claws out!"
They both transformed and burst out of their room to find the superhero team all in the kitchen, ready to run.
"We need to be tasteful about this. We need as few casualties as possible. Remember: find the leader and end his reign. Only kill if you must. Ready? GO!" Madeleine ordered. They all ran out the door and jumped out of windows, ready to end this riot.
Marinette swung across the old-style Parisian buildings with ease. She focussed on trying to rescue civilians. She picked up small children and ran them to safety. She did her best to rescue everyone she could that wanted or needed rescuing.
Adrien focussed on ridding the mob of their weapons. He flew between them with his staff and broke all weapons he could. He only used cataclysm on particularly hefty weapons, which was dangerous because he would then have to detransform then retransform and do it all over again. Adrien panted as he jumped back into the mix of people.
Eventually, Madeleine and Gustave stopped the leader and restored peace. Exhausted, the superhero team made their way through the city, making sure everyone was okay. Eventually, they all made it home. The riot had lasted all day, and it was now dark. Marinette collapsed on her bed and groaned.
"How are we gonna do this every day, Adrien? I'm completely drained," she complained. Adrien gave her a weak smile.
"I don't know. All I do know is that I could sleep for days; however, a certain someone promised me a talk," Adrien reminded her. Marinette groaned.
"I'm so tired, do we have to?" she asked. Adrien nodded, crossing his arms.
"You promised," he insisted. She shook her head.
"I never actually promised! I just said maybe later. Don't put words in my mouth!" she exclaimed. Adrien rolled his eyes.
"Please?" he pleaded. Marinette huffed.
"Fine. What do you have to say?" she asked, annoyed. Adrien inhaled deeply.
"Well, Marinette, it's no secret that I've been in love with Ladybug since I met her, but I also have feelings for you. I always have. Ever since that first time we truly spoke in the rain. I denied it, but it was there. I'm so incredibly glad that both of the amazing women I fell in love with were the same person," Adrien confessed. Marinette fought a smile and lost. She beamed as he said such kind words.
"Oh, Minou. I have some confessions too. Ever since that night in the rain, I've loved you, Adrien. I didn't really know why I just accepted the fact that I did. It was simply the truth. When I first met Chat, I thought he was just an obnoxious flirt. Now I know that you are so much more than that! You've become my best friend in all ways, and I love you so much. I definitely fell in love with Chat Noir without realizing it. I just know that ever since Evilistrator and Glaciator and all of the other times where you've been kind to me when I was Marinette, I've seen you in a different light. Those days changed me. I know for certain I wouldn't be the person I am today without you. Without you as Chat and without you as Adrien. I need you both. I love you both. And I'm proud to be your partner," Marinette boldly confessed before embracing Adrien. He smiled and pulled her closer.
"I have one more question for you," Adrien said.
"Yes?" Marinette asked cautiously.
"May I kiss you?" he asked, blushing.
"You may," Marinette replied, blushing fiercely as well. And so, that night was the night they truly kissed for the first time. It was the perfect ending to such a trying day. Both Marinette and Adrien fell asleep happy that night despite everything they had gone through because they were going through it together.
