Chapter XI: The Cursed Island!
Previously on The Man without a History
~Y/N POV~
"Let's go," I said to the team, who simply nod and start walking. As we reach the guild doors, Laxus decides to speak.
"Yeah, yeah, go to the job, when you come back I'll be the one those sluts of your confine in," Laxus said with an arrogant tone.
"Laxus!" Makarov screamed at him.
I just froze, my body trembling.
~Third Person POV~
"Y/N, just ignore him let's go," Erza said, as she touched Y/N's shoulder. However, her eyes widen when she felt his body trembling.
Y/N looked at her, she was in shock because Y/N's eyes were glowing, glowing a crimson red.
~Present Time~
~Y/N POV~
I started breathing deeply trying to control my rage, unknown to me all my elements were going crazy around my hands, causing my team and many of the guild members to start sweating nervously.
I turn around and face Laxus, who was just staring at me with a stoic expression.
"Look here, you son of a bitch, at least I don't have a father that betrayed his own guild, and the way you treat your guildmates and your grandfather, tells me that we're going to have another cycle of the same person," I said with a calm voice, grinning as I see Laxus's eyes twitch.
"Let me tell you something, you're powerful, I'll give you that much. Wait, wait, sorry, I meant were powerful, till I came along," I said, as I walked towards Laxus, whose eyes were twitching and fists clenching in anger, he walked closer to me, and we were now standing face to face. He was 2 inches shorter than me so I was staring down at him, into his dull grey eyes.
"I'd rather talk with you, but money is more important than wasting time with you because unlike you, I have responsibilities. And I'm mature enough," I said, my eyes glow red, "To know when the fuck to back off from someone stronger than them," I said in a deep intimidating voice. Laxus stared at me, he grits his teeth and takes a step back.
"Good choice, you're lucky you are his son, I respect him enough to not beat your ass, but you keep pulling these strings that make it really hard not to hit you, " I said in a normal voice, clenching my fists.
~Third Person POV~
A dark mist surrounding Y/N's fist, which he was unaware off, however, it did not go unnoticed by everyone. They just took a step back, Laxus just stood still. There was a spark of fear for not knowing what that dark mist could do to him, however, as soon as it came, it disappeared.
~Y/N POV~
"Let's go," I said turning around, Erza smiles and nods at me. I just sigh and smile at her, and start walking to the door.
As I reach the door, I look back one last time, to see Laxus gone, and walk away.
(A/N: PSYCHE! What? Did you want to fight him? Chillax, you'll get your turn to fight him during the Fairy Contest Arc, that time you can beat him with more reasons. You can't be all brawn all the time, you gotta think calmly.)
~Timeskip~
The picturesque port town of Hargeon, we were back here to catch a ferry or a boat to Galuna Island.
"Wow, this brings back memories," Lucy said with a smile as we were walking.
"Hopefully it's good memories," I said with a smile directed at her.
"Yeah, it was where I met you," She muttered, which did not go unnoticed by ears. I just grinned at her, she blushed and looked away when she realized that I had heard her.
"She loooooves you," Happy whispered in my left ear. I turn and look at Happy, and just grin at him.
"It only seems like yesterday when we meet her for the first time," Lucy said, putting her hand over her eyes.
"It was practically yesterday, you don't have to get all mushy," Nashi said.
"Yeah, you sound like an old lady," Happy said, as he was perched on Nashi's sleeping bag that was strapped to her camping bag.
Lucy just gave him a cold glare.
"Well, let's go find a boat that will take us to Galuna," Erza said with a knowing smile.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?! Forget the boat, why don't we swim for it?!" Nashi said nervously.
'Think he forgot who he was talking to,' I thought, waiting for a smackdown from Erza.
"And you think she's the one that's crazy?" Lucy said with a sigh.
Silvia, Erza and I just chuckled at that.
We walked to the docks to see if we could get one of the boats.
"Galuna Island? No way, not for a million jewel," said one of the boatmen that we were trying to hire.
"Around here it's bad luck to even mention that name," said another man that was with the guy.
We walked to another boat.
"Sorry kids but I don't think anyone here would be willing to take you," said a man with a green tank top.
The man that was next to him, with a wooden crate in his hands, "That island's got a curse, so if you got a death wish, I'd stay far away," he said.
We walked around more asking for a ride to the Island, we then reached a boat with a man that was wearing a light olive green poncho and a dark blue bandana on his head. He had an upside down 'U' shaped mustache.
"Don't know why you'd wanna go there, but no sailor with his sauce will take you to Galuna, not even pirates are going anywhere near that place," he said.
"Are you serious?" Lucy asked with a worried tone.
"Looks like we're gonna be swimming after all," Nashi said with a grin.
"Sure does!" Happy said in a sing-a-song voice.
"WE'RE NOT SWIMMING, NASHI!" Lucy yelled at Nashi.
"We could always just fly there," I said with a shrug. "My magic can carry about three people, I am sure, one of Erza's armor can carry the rest? Right, Erza?" I asked looking at Erza.
"Yes, that seem-" "Magic?" the boatman asked. "Excuse me, but are you wizards?" He asked standing on the boat. All of us looked at him, with a raised eyebrow, I stood in front of the group with Erza. "Have you come to life the curse on the Island?" he asked.
"Yeah!" Nashi said with an excited smile.
"Well...maybe," Lucy said with a nervous tone. The man looked at us with eye wide open, sweat forming on his face.
"Get in," He said, pointing at the boat.
~Timeskip brought to you by Happy saying 'Later that day' as he was fishing~
"Now I'm starting to get scared," Lucy said with a scared tone. She was sitting on my right with her knees to her chest. Nashi was leaning on my left shoulder sleeping so that she won't get motion sickness.
Much to Erza's and Silvia's dismay, they had to sit across from us.
"It's alright Lucy, we're here," I said smiling at her. She nods gently but still pulling her knees closer, she had my bomber jacket around her, as she was feeling a bit chilly.
'I don't blame her, this mission feels fishy, as if this is not the only thing we're about to do,' I said looking around, it was now close to night time.
"It's kind of your fault too buddy, why did you decide to let us on?" Silvia asked the boatman.
"The name is Bobo," he said turning around, "And if you must know, I used to be a citizen of Galuna Island," he said.
I raised my eyebrow at that.
"Huh?" Lucy asked.
"But I had to flee," He said looking down at the water. "I just couldn't take it anymore," he said. "I should warn you, tragedy befalls anyone who steps foot on the island," He said, as he rowed the oar to the boat. "There is no avoiding it," he said, there was a pause, "Unless you're able to lift the curse," he continued.
He lifted his poncho to show his left arm, which looked deformed, the skin had turned a dark purple, looking something like that of a demon.
"This vile demon's curse," he said. Lucy gasped, her eyes wide, she shifted closer to me in fear.
"Woah!" Silvia said as her eyes went wide, "You arm...what happened to it?" Silvia asked.
"Is that...the curse?" Lucy asked in a soft voice. He looked at her for a minute, I looked at him with caution as if he was going to do something.
He then looked up, "We're almost there," He said. "That's Galuna Island," He said, looking far away.
We all turned in front at looked at the Island that was coming up. A bright light shining on top of the island.
"That's weird, why is the mountaintop glowing like that?" Lucy asked.
~On Top of the Mountain~
Many people in purple cloaks were standing in a circle, with the middle having a gap, their hands spread out.
"Zeref, Send Deluna, Cuna, Cuna," said the people, in the mix were many female and male voices.
(A/N: I was only able to pick up the first three words then I just literally spelled the gibberish they were saying, sorry if it sounds weird. But it is a cult, so 'weirdness' is like their motto.)
~Back on the Boat~
~Y/N POV~
"What the?!" Lucy said we turn around to see her standing, "Where did he go?!" Lucy asked.
"Did he fall out?" Silvia asked, looking at the water.
"It's like he disappeared into thin air!?" Happy exclaimed.
We looked around the water but did not see a body float to the surface.
Suddenly I felt the water pick up, I turn around and see a huge wave forming.
"What's that sound?" Lucy asked.
"Uh...guys don't panic," I said, everyone, turned around.
"AHHHHHH!!! HELP ME!!!" Lucy started screaming.
"Just hold on!" I said. A whirlpool started forming, and we were sucked in. The last thing I remember was surfacing on the water before I passed out.
~Timeskip to Next Day morning~
~Y/N POV~
I heard waves crashing all of the sudden, I open my eyes slowly, my vision going blurry for a minute due to the sudden increase in exposure to light.
"Y/N?" I heard a familiar female voice. I gently push myself against whatever thing I was lying on. It did feel like sand, as I looked around I saw a female with blond hair looking at me.
As my eyes adjusting, I realized it was Lucy.
"You're awake!" She said with a smile. I look around to see Erza, Nashi, and Silvia looking at me with worried looks.
"What happened?" I asked.
"We got sucked into the whirlpool that formed in the ocean, luckily your clones came out at the right time, and help onto the boat," Erza said. Nashi then pointed at the boat that was parked on close to the beach but still on the water.
"I would've helped but I was too heavy," Erza said with shame.
"It's alright, as long as you're safe and sound, I don't give a damn if you weren't able to help," I said, as I sit up.
"Is this Galuna Island?" I asked looking around.
"It seems so," Silvia said.
"Ok, Let's get to it," I said, getting up. Feeling my muscles ache lightly. I lose my balance and start falling, but then I feel a hand grip my right arm.
I look up to see everyone holding me, "Thanks," I said with a smile. They all nod, and pull me up.
I stand and tried to get my bearings, they let go off me, but their hands are close, in case I fall again.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, as I get my bearings.
"We made it guys!" Nashi said excitedly.
"We're lucky that wave and Y/N were able to wash us ashore," Lucy said looking at me with a smile and light blush.
"I mean Y/N saving us was lucky, but the wave I'm not so sure," Silvia said nervously.
"There's no point discussing, we need to get the job done and leave as soon as possible, to not get the curse on us," Erza said putting her hands on her hips. It seemed that everyone's clothes were dry, so I'm assuming that we've been here for a while.
"I can't help but wonder what happened to the guy that brought us here?" Lucy asked. "Right after he told us about the curse he vanished," she continued.
Erza, Silvia and I nod.
"Forget about that stuff for now, and let's go exploring!" Nashi said excitedly, waving her arms in the air.
"Aye!" Happy said, sharing her enthusiasm while jumping up and down.
"She has a point," I said with a grin.
"We've been like for a few minutes and you guys already forgot about the mission," Lucy said sweatdropping.
"She has a point as well," I said with a shrug.
~LINEBREAK~
Erza was holding the Request paper in her hands and reading something out.
"Apparently, there's only one village on the entire island," She read, "The village chief was the one who originally put in the request," she continued.
"So, I guess we need to try and find him," Silvia said.
"So, what are we waiting for?" I asked with a grin.
"LET'S DO THIS!" Nashi said excitedly.
"AYE!" Happy exclaimed.
The rest of just giggled and chuckled, and started walking.
~Timeskip~
The dread 'Keep Out' sign.
We were standing in front of a tall wooden wall, that had wooden spikes protruding at the end. The wall looked to be about 15-20 Meters.
"Well, we found the village," I said, straining my neck to look up.
"Now what?" Silvia asked.
"Check out that gate, when they say keep out, they mean it," Nashi said,
"ANYONE HOME?! WE CAME HERE TO HELP YOU!" Lucy yelled towards the gate.
"Let's bust in," Nashi said with a grin.
"NO WAY!" Lucy exclaimed. I just sighed.
"Who goes there?" asked a male voice. We looked up to see two shadows on top of the wall.
"We're wizards from Fairy Tail, here for the job!" Erza said.
"Fairy Tail?! There here! Finally! We're saved!" The man exclaimed.
"Wait! We'd like to see your emblems," the man requested.
We all showed him our emblems. I had to lift up my shirt to show the emblem that was on my right peck. As I put my shirt down, I saw the three girls were blushing furiously and looking away.
I just chuckled at them, flattered that I get that reaction from them.
"They're here, they're really here!" said the other man.
With a loud thud, the gate slowly lifted up. I raised my eyebrow
"It's like we're walking into a Giant Monster's mouth," Happy said casually.
"Are you trying to freak me out?" Lucy asked.
"Huh?" Erza said as she looked at the figures that were standing in front of us, however, they were covered with orchard colored cloaks from head to toe.
"I'm Moka, the village chief," said a male voice standing in front, on his left was a staff with a crescent-moon shaped stone on top. "On behalf of everyone here, I welcome you," he said, "Pleasantries aside, there's something you need to see!" He said.
He turned around and said, "Now my people!" All the figures dropped their robes, it showed their bodies having various forms of demons body parts. Clawed legs, wing looking arms, crab-like arms, a few having different amounts of horns.
"It's just like what happened to the boat guy," Silvia said looking around.
"Yeah," Lucy said in a soft voice.
"Oh, wow!" Nashi said looking at Moka, "Those sideburns!" She said, her eyes dropping out of their sockets.
I just facepalmed myself. Erza let out a sigh.
"Not that, I was trying to show you what's happened to my arm," Moka said. "Everyone on the island has suffered horrible disfigurement because of this curse," He said. "Not even the animals have been spared," he said.
I looked at the mountaintop and squinted my eyes at it.
"You thinking what I'm thinking," Erza said, I looked down to see her looking at the mountaintop.
"It would make sense," I said.
"Please excuse me for asking, but what makes you think it's a curse, sir?" Silvia asked in a gentle tone. "It could be some kind of infectious disease," she said.
"We've consulted with dozens of doctors, young lady, but they all agree no such disease exists," Moka replied. "Our symptoms began, the same time the moon fell under a spell," he said.
"What kind of spell?" Lucy asked.
"Since ancient times, this island has absorbed the light of the moon," Moka replied, "Causing it to glow as beautifully as the moon itself," he said.
"However, years ago, the moon's color began to change, and an eerie purple glow cast upon the island," he said.
"So the moon turned purple," Nashi said.
"Haaa! It's coming up from behind the clouds," Happy said with a nervous voice.
"You feel that?" I asked Erza.
"Magic," Erza said.
"Oh wow! It really is purple," Lucy said
"Man that's creepy looking," Silvia said.
"It's the curse, stand back, the change is about to begin," Moka said, I watched as his eyes trembled.
"AHHHH!" All of them started screaming.
"WOAH! What the?!" Lucy asked as she stepped back. I quickly cast a shield of clear ice around ourselves.
Slowly their skin burst out, their fingers elongating, their faces elongating as well. Horns growing from some of them.
"They're changing," Silvia said.
"Yeah, I see that," Lucy said.
"Why is this happening to them?" Erza asked as she staggered back with her eyes wide open.
~LINEBREAK~
I had dispelled the shield.
"I'm sorry if our appearance frightens you," Moka said, as he was in his demonic form.
Moka now was a short, bald with long silver sideburns running from the length of his face down to his hips. He has purple skin and has dark violet spots all over his body.
He has blue claws for feet and hands. He wears a necklace made of what appear to be large animal teeth centered by a skull and a dark blue cape that drapes down from his shoulders to the back of his knees and features a crescent moon symbol.
He also wears a white tribal-like kilt that features a red ringed circle and two green stripes encircling near the trimmings of the kilt, which is also cut decoratively. He has gold rings on both of his legs and his left arm.
"It's okay, I'm just completely confused," Silvia said.
"You poor people," Lucy said, as her hand was on her chin.
"Oh man," Nashi said, "You guys look so cool!" She exclaimed, a grin on her face. All of us, including the villagers, just had a deadpan look.
"Huh?" Everyone asked.
"It's awesome! You've got horns and stuff," Nashi said, clenching her fists in excitement, "I'm so jealous!" She said.
"Only you, nashi, only you," I whispered. I heard Erza giggle at that.
"She thinks we look cool?" one of the men asked.
"No one's ever said that to us before," said a female voice.
"Nashi, you're being insensitive, they don't want to look like this," Lucy scolded Nashi.
"Seriously?" Nashi asked casually, "My bad, then I guess we should help them out," Nashi said, rubbing the back of her neck.
"That is why we're here," Erza said.
"Get a clue, lady," Silvia whispered to the side.
"Anyway," Moka said, "As you've witnessed, whenever the purple moon shows its face in the sky, everyone in the village takes on a horrific demon form," He said.
I then heard a child crying, I look to my right to see child crying, with what looked like to be his mother trying to comfort him.
I clenched my fists in anger, 'Whoever did this, is going to pay,' I thought. I feel a hand squeeze my shoulder, I looked to my left to see Erza's hand on my shoulder, and she was giving me a determined look.
"If it isn't a curse then what else could it possibly be?" Moka said we look around to see everyone starting tear up, even the men.
"Magic," I said loudly.
"Huh?" some of them asked.
"Magic? But how? I thought Magic helped us," some of them voiced out their opinions.
"Whatever is doing this, it's doing it at that mountaintop," I said pointing to the mountain that was glowing. "I sense a weird magic coming from it, as if it's trying to revive something, and it's not something good," I said looking at the mountaintop.
"We'll return to normal once the morning comes, and the sun has risen," Moka said, "However, there are some poor souls that can no longer switch back to their human forms for they've lost their minds," He said.
"How sad," Lucy said.
"The fate for them, these unfortunate souls in the grip of madness, we've no choice but to put them to death," Moka said looking down in shame.
"Ha!" Lucy, Silvia, Erza and Nashi gasped.
"But they might change back to normal someday," Nashi said.
"They can't Nashi," I said with a sad tone. "Madness always leads to killing, how can he be sure that they won't turn on their own people, he is the village chief, his people come first," I said looking down.
"But Y/N," Nashi whined.
"Nashi, please understand, it's not easy to kill off your own people, imagine the struggle on him," I said to her. Nashi just looked down, she looked sad. That was the first time, I've seen her so sad.
I just sighed, I walked over to her and hugged her. She wrapped her arms around me and just leaned against my chest, all I could do was caress her back.
"Like he said, if we wait for that to happen, the monsters will surely kill us all," Moka said. "We've tried capturing them, but they always broke free," He said. His eyes trembled, you could see the pain in his eyes. "It's no use," he said, holding up a photo. "Once it takes all, there is no way to save them," He said, tears coming out of his eyes.
"I should know, I was forced to kill my very own son," he said looking down.
We gasped, 'The picture, the guy from the boat,' I thought.
"That's the guy...." Lucy said, looking at the picture, "From the boat, but we just saw him yesterday, he-" "Shh, now I understand why he disappeared on us like that," Silvia said, "He's dead, but his soul can't rest in peace," she said.
Lucy's eyes widen.
"Please lift this curse from our island," Moka said bowing his head, "If it goes on much longer we may all fall victim to it," he said. "W-We'll d-die," he said with a shaky voice.
"WE'RE NOT GONNA LET THAT HAPPEN!" Nashi exclaimed. "We can fix this, I promise you," she said.
Moka looked at us.
"There's only one way this wretched curse can be lifted," Moka said. "The moon," he said, my eyes widen, "The moon must be wiped from the sky!" He exclaimed, pointing up at it.
I looked up at the moon and squinted my eyes.
'Something doesn't add up, it wasn't purple when we were on the water, what could've happened within a few hours,' I thought, as I continued to stare at the moon.
~Short Timeskip~
"I never knew the moon could be so creepy," Happy said, as he stared at the moon.
"Hurry and close the window, you heard what they chief said!" Lucy scolded Happy. "You've gotta stay outta the moonlight," she said, going through her bag. She was now wearing a white t-shirt and some hot pink knee-length shorts.
The village chief was kind enough, to give us a cottage fit for about 5 people. Unfortunately, there were no other cottages available, so I had to stay with the girls.
It's not like anything will happen anyways, it's not even the right place or time for 'anything' to happen.
'Gotta say, she looks like those neighborhood girls,' I thought as I looked at her.
"You may not care, but I don't want to risk turning into some freaky looking monster," Lucy said.
"I'm not so sure about this job guys," Nashi said, as she rested on one of the chairs.
"Do these people really think we can destroy the moon?" Silvia asked as she was sitting on one of the chairs close to Nashi.
"I wonder how many punches it will take?" Nashi said holding her fist up, "You think I can handle it?" Nashi asked.
Again I facepalmed myself.
"Only you will think with your fists Nashi," I whispered. Erza who was sitting next to me giggled,
Erza was wearing her pajamas, I'm not even surprised she brought that, though I wonder how she was even able to get all of the luggage from the water...
'Nah...I'll leave it be. Erza's like a wildcard,' I thought, looking at Erza.
She was wearing a light purple nightwear which had a knight's cross with a heart on the end.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Silvia exclaimed. "Don't be stupid, Nashi," Silvia said.
"Nashi," Lucy closed her eyes, "There's not a wizard alive that's strong enough to do that," she said.
(A/N: Now before you go all, "Me?" and shit like that. You're strong, but not fucking strong enough to survive the FUCKING SPACE! That is just stupid and wishful thinking, don't be dumb.)
"But that's the job we're hired to do isn't it?" Nashi said, "We can't take a job and then back out, 'cuz that would make Fairy Tail look bad," she said.
"What they're asking can't be done," Silvia said.
"Look Nashi, there are many things that you need to even reach the bloody moon," I said to her.
"How do you think you're going to get to the moon anyway?" Silvia asked.
"With Happy," Nashi said pointing up, casually.
"Huh?" Happy said, "I don't think so," He said shaking his head.
"Okay, we can't destroy the moon, but if we do some investigating, we can find a different way to lift the curse off the island," She said putting her hand on her chin.
"You kids can do what you want, but after the day i've had, I need some shut-eye," Silvia said removing her shirt off, she then moved to her sandals.
"Please don't take-off anymore," Lucy said sweatdropping.
"Okay!" Nashi said with a smile, "Our investigation starts tomorrow morning, I'm hitting the sack," She said jumping onto the futon and mattress that was laid out for us.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Silvia said as she rested her head on the pillow.
"'K then," Lucy said, "I'm pretty sleepy too," She said rubbing her eyes. "Good night," She said, sleeping in between Silvia and Nashi.
Erza and I looked at each other, and just smiled and shook our heads. I pulled Erza close and took her towards the mattress, putting her down gently and then lay down next to her, I pull the cover over us and then spoon her.
Going to sleep, and worrying about the investigation tomorrow.
~Sometime Later~
~Third Person POV~
Nashi, Lucy, and Silvia were sleeping close to each other. Nashi and Silvia were both snoring loudly.
Lucy who was 'sleeping' peacefully suddenly opened her eyes and sat up.
"So loud!" Lucy exclaimed, "How am I supposed to sleep if the beast and the perv keep snoring?!" She asked.
Y/N waved his fingers and Lucy literally fell right into sleep.
Y/N smiled and snuggled closer to Erza who smiled and the warmth and scooted back into Y/N, both of them smile and go to sleep.
---
A/N: Okay! I had to end it here because I'm fucking sleepy and tired from the exam I gave. It's like 2:45 AM here.
