Part 7
Abigail's POV
Just as dawn approached I sat inside the young woman's room waiting for her to try and sneak in the window, just like I use to when I was her age. Never did I think I would be in this position. Just as I started to drift off the window opened and I made the light in the room brighten. The woman looked at me with shock written all over her face. Great, I can only imagine the explanation she was about to come up with from the top of her head.
"Go ahead, give me your best excuse for staying out all night. I can guarantee you I thought of it before you though." I tell the young woman as I cross my arms and stare her down.
"No need to worry, he didn't want anything to do with me. I am too young for him and it appears another has already caught his fancy." she says as she begins to take off her cloak and shoes.
Oh young one you don't know what love it yet. Believe me I really don't think I know what it is yet and I am older than you...well not really but you know what I mean. I nod my head as I walk over to her bed and sit upon it waiting for her to either tell me to get the heck out or tell me what happened last night to her.
"Are you my new babysitter that my father was talking about?" she questions as she comes to sit on the top part of the bed.
"Let's just say I'm a friendly ear right now, go on tell me what happened." I tell her not expecting her to trust me.
"He well John as you know I went to him to confess but he said I was too young and that his heart belonged to another. Well after that I went to leave but ran into Ezekiel and he was rambling about some witch in the woods. I took him to the reverend and then came back home I swear." she tells me as I can see her eyes are getting weak. "I'm Anna by the way. Can we talk later? I am really very tired."
Those were the last words she said as she passed out. Great now the one person who can take the blame off of Sarah is probably in jail. Ugh must I do everything myself? Wait why do I ask that when I already know the answer? Standing I cover the girl with her blanket and walk out of the room. The Magistrate sits as the table having tea as his wife knits of the other side. Pretty laid back parents if you asked me.
"Is she asleep?" he asks me not looks away from whatever documents he had in his hand.
"Yes at the moment, she had a long but not fulfilling not sir. If you will excuse me I believe I need a bit more rest as well." I tell him as I walk out of the house.
Thinking that once I got to Sarah's I would finally be able to rest I being to fast walk there. As if that would do any good in these shoes. Ha!
"Oh miss Abigail!" I hear the Reverend call out to me.
Dang it! So close but yet so far. Turning around I see him running up to me. Well he must be excited about something to be running so fast. Just as he reaches me he grabs my hand and pulls me into the tavern. Oh yay ale this early in the morning. Honestly I am surprised your peoples livers still freaking work! He bring me over to a table where a man sits with a few bottles in front of him almost like a scientist.
"Dr. Thronewhip, this was the woman I spoke of. Miss Sarah's cousin, Abigail." the Reverend says introducing us.
The doctor looks up at me and his beautiful green eyes catch mine. Oh darn it! I didn't want to form a connection with anyone here but for some reason this guy reminds me of someone. The doctor offers me his hand which my hand gladly accepts. My hand in his he takes it to his lips and kisses it.
"A pleasure to meet you Miss Abigail. I am Doctor Jason Thronewhip at your service." he tells me his eyes never leaving mine.
"A pleasure to meet you as well sir, forgive me but I am quite tired and need rest from helping my cousin with her newborn child. Perhaps I will see you later in the day?" I inquire and then look to the Reverend to make sure what I just said was alright.
"I look forward to seeing you again." the doctor says as he kisses my hand again. "Until we meet again."
He releases my hand and I smile at him as I turn around and walk right out of the tavern. I was going as fast as I could without running when I finally got to Sarah's house. I found her asleep in a chair, walking into the nursery I saw James resting peacefully as well. Oh child if you only knew the things I did to help your mom last night I doubt that they would make you laugh at all. Going into my room I just fall onto my bed. Sleep was something that I desperately needed. My eyes were heavy and my body just wanted to give in and never move from the spot I was in. Finally I let sleep win and my eyes closed as I drifted off into dream land.
