Part 6
Abigail's POV
There is no way that Sarah was a witch. Believe me I would have picked up on it by now. Once I got back to her home I saw her panicking. Great I had to deal with another panicked person. I took her by her shoulder and tried to calm her down. That didn't seem to help until I told her to sit down or I would tie her down. That got her attention and she quickly sat down and looked at me with tears in her eyes.
"I have never done witchcraft in my life. Why would someone dare accuse me of such a thing?" Sarah questioned me.
To be truthful I could only think of one person who had that kind of power and was able to convince the entire town to agree with whatever she said and that was Angelica. Hating her was beginning to be a past time for me now.
"You are not a witch and I will prove it. Who is the one that you know accused you? I mean you must have an idea or something?" I question her as she begins to think hard.
"I did talk to Ezekiel a few days ago, he isn't the smartest man in the town. Just a local hunter who sometimes comes to town to trade furs and meat." Sarah tells me.
"Well sounds like I need to have a little talk with him. You get James to bed and rest up. I promise you this whole business will be nothing but a bad dream." I tell Sarah who tries to trust me I can tell that as she stands up and walks into the nursery.
After talking to Fred very quickly the new costume I needed for that night just happened to show up in a nearby cupboard in the kitchen. Really these clothes could land perfectly folded but me I just fall right on my butt? What is up with that? Quickly I change into tight black pants, dark black boots, a red corset and a small black jacket to go over it. The finishing touch though was a masquerader mask that was black with gold lace on the edge. Ezekiel wanted to see a witch I would show him one.
The sun had set and I was already in the woods hunting down well the hunter. Still it had been a while since I had come out here and I beginning to think that he wouldn't show up. Turning to make my exit I hear what sounds like a drunken laugh. Just my luck of course whoever I would run into out here would be drunk. Tavern never seems to go out of business now does it? I follow the noises to a fire I somehow missed and see a man with dark hair in a pony tail put his musket down as he takes a drink.
"So you like to accuse people of being witches do ya?" I question trying to deepen my voice.
The man turns around and looks at me completely shocked, he drops his drink and his eyes widen as he looks at my outfit. Smiling I walk up to him and kick the gun out of his reach. I was going to make sure he had no way to harm me at all.
"You...you really are a witch." he says as he tries to stands up but staggers.
"Yes, we do so hate when other people take credit for our work as well. Yet I hear you went and blamed some poor woman who I can certainly tell you isn't one of us for practicing our art. My kind doesn't take kindly to that." I tell him as I back him up against a tree.
"I...was just followin orders....I swear oh mistress..." he says bowing his head to me. "Please don't hurt me."
Wow this guy was pathetic I hadn't even really done anything and here he was begging me not to hurt him. Either way I knew I had to make him tell the town that Sarah wasn't a witch. Would this be easy or would people just think he was drunk again? Still I knew I had to protect Sarah. I grab him by his collar and force him to look me in the eyes.
"Go to the town and retract your statement or believe me there will be hell to pay." I tell him but he looks at me utterly confused. "Tell them you lied you idiot."
He nods repeatedly as I push him to the ground. He quickly gathers his things and begins to take off towards the town. Either that was too easy or he thinks I was a dream and or nightmare. Really I just pray that idiot will go back to the town and say it was all a lie. Still he told me he was following orders. Who in the heck would order him to tell the town that Sarah was a witch. This just made the mystery deepen.
Back at Sarah's house I make it to the door when I hear horses coming up the path. Oh really?! I can't be caught dressed like this. Booking it I make it to the back window and climb inside the small area. It's my room thank goodness and I just barely take off my mask and re dress in a simple dress when my door opens and there stands Sarah with the Magistrate. Well this can't be good. Could the drunken idiot have known who I was?
"Abigail, the Magistrate would like for you to escort his daughter for the next couple of days." Sarah begins to tell me as I look at the Magistrate confused.
"As you wish of course, may I ask why though?" I wonder as I hope I haven't crossed any lines or anything like that.
"I believe she has an unhealthy vision of John in her head. Even plans of perhaps them courting." the Magistrate says as he beckons me to follow him.
Great not only am I running on no sleep but now I have to babysit. What could possibly be more fun then that? Oh wait...anything! I bet she's a teenager too. Just my luck. Sighing I follow the magistrate.
