Part 13

Abigail's POV

Standing over a paupers grave was something I thought I would never do, yet here I am. Emily didn't deserve this. She wasn't evil and I know that child wasn't the work of the devil. Any medical expert from my time would have been able to tell. No not here though, she had to be a witch. Tears began to fall from my eyes as I heard someone walk up beside me.

"She was glad you defended her, believe me I could see it in her eyes." Amber tells me as she touches my shoulder. "There was nothing you could have done to stop them. Neither of us could."

"She's behind it all, I know it. Something tells me that Emily wasn't just a random woman they wanted to accuse as a witch. There is a reason to her madness." I say not looking away from the grave.

"Well all know that. I will help you in whatever way I can. Please be careful with the doctor though. I highly doubt he will be faithful." Amber says as she hugs me goodbye and then walks away.

Turning to walk back I can sense John again. I look behind my shoulder and see him leaning against a tree with a sad look on his face. Walking over to him I can't help but wonder if he knows what happened to poor Emily.

"Emily, the hung her for being a witch." I tell him as he nods his head. "I tried to defend her but no one would listen to me."

"That shouldn't shock you. After all half the men are too busy trying to please Angelica that they care little for anything or anyone else." John says as he puts his hand on my cheek. "Once you marry the doctor you will have the same power he does. Put it to good use."

Nodding my head I turn back to the town and begin my walk back. Once I get to Jason's house I see a note on the door. Apparently he was at the clinic now, for some reason I knew where that was. Following what I somehow remember I walk into the clinic to see him treating a patient. That made me look at him in a different light. Jason was able to help people but he could just as easily kill one as well. Then again anyone could do that...right?

"Oh Abigail? Aren't you afraid you will catch something?" Jason questions as he walks up to me.

"No, I have a wonderful immune system." I say confidently as I remember the countless shots I have had from my agency, those always hurt.

"Have you come to assist then?" he asks as he looks at me hopeful.

"Yes, I suppose I have." I say as I put on a white apron, a sign of hope to those who are sick.

After hours of patients have taken it's toll on us Jason comes up to me. This takes me back for a moment as he puts his hand on my cheek. Looking up into his eyes I feel that heart warming feeling again. Darn my stupid emotions. Jason leans into me and places his lips upon mine. I'm scared this is wrong, that Jason and I together are just one big mistake.

"Our wedding will be the happiest day of my life." he tells me not removing his lips from mine.

"You have no idea what you are getting into marrying me." I tell him honestly but now I lean forward into our kiss.

After a few minutes I hear a few wolf whistles and a couple of the patients who have to stay at the clinic clapping at us. Embarrassed I pull away from Jason but he wraps his arms around me not allowing me to escape.

"Hey now you all, ruining a romantic woman between future man and wife." Jason tells them as they just laugh and settle down for bed. "Come, I think it's time we get some rest as well."

Once back at my soon to be home I sat at the window seal looking out into the night. So much had happened and at points it was as if my heart couldn't bare what was happening. Still somehow I managed to pull through. I knew somehow I would avenge Emily's death. Knowing for a fact that Emily would never bring anything evil into this world.

"Sleep escapes you tonight my dear?" Jason asks me using a term of endearment.

"Death of a friend tends to do that. What of you? Shouldn't you be resting as well?" I question as I look over my should at him.

"Restless as well, some images no matter how hard you try can not be erased from your mind." Jason says as he walks up and hugs me, I allow it though I am not sure why. "Emily did not deserve such a fate, I will help however I can."

Breathing deep I look back to the window.

"Once we are married, lend me your power and that will be all you can do." I tell him as he holds me closer.

"My power will be yours, please do get some sleep. We have other things to plan tomorrow as well." he says as he kisses my head.

"You know nothing about me, where I come from who I even am at that yet you just agree to marry me. You are either mad or crazy which are pretty much the same thing." I tell him as he starts to walk away.

"Perhaps I am crazily and madly in love with you." He says looking at me dead serious. "You may not believe me but I am telling you, I will be faithful to you."

"Actions my dear Fiance speak much louder than words." I tell him as he nods at me and is about to walk out of the room. "No sleeping in the chair tonight?"

Stopping he turns and chuckles at me. "Some nights I must use a bed, I am old after all and my back dislikes that chair now."

"How old are you?" I ask him realising I had never asked.

"Thirty six, and you?" he says smirking.

"Twenty six." I answer, he nods and walks out leaving me alone in my room.
