Goodbye, Forever (Bonus Chapter)

John's POV

The town now has no memory of the magistrate, Abigail, Angelica, Will, Lady Montgomery or the good doctor. Yet somehow I do, I remember everything that happened. Abigail and the doctor were gone, I didn't know where either of them went and neither of them said good bye. Maybe that was for the best though.  After all I'm sure this wasn't Abigail's first mission.

Walking through the woods I couldn't help but remember when I kissed her here. I was happy though the people of Salem were now safe for the moment. Did that mean that I thought this time of peace would last? Not a chance. Sitting down and leaning my back against a tree I close my eyes hoping for a moments peace.

"Falling asleep on the job?" a familiar female voice asks me and my eyes jolt open, there before me stands Abigail in a dress from my time period. "I didn't think you were one to slack off."

"Everyone needs a break every now and then, I thought you and the good doctor left." I ask her as I stand up.

"That's why I am here, I need to talk to you, he came back with me but I can tell he can't accept it. He'll be sent back I just know it and I need you to watch out for him and make sure he forgets me." Abigail says as she walks up to me.

"I'll do what I can, what about you though? Thought you two were in love?" I ask crossing my arms.

"I've learned a lot from my job, including how fast one can fall in and out of love. Trust me when I say he's better of here." she says as we stand merely inches a part from one another. "I also came to tell you good bye."

Goodbye, the one thing she didn't give me before she left the first time and now she came back to do that and ask me to babysit Jason who would now become her ex husband one day, though she didn't tell me when. Putting my hand on her cheek I bring her face closer to me and lean my forehead against hers.

"You'd have been better off with me, it was a mistake ever telling you to marry that man." I tell her and before she has a chance to reply I lean and kiss her.

Honestly I didn't expect her to kiss me back but when she did it felt as though my heart was going to explode, every time we touched I could feel something I never had before. What truly hurt was knowing that no matter what I did, I couldn't keep her. Still that didn't stop our kiss, she wrapped her arms around my neck bringing us closer together. I now knew she had to have felt something similar to what I felt but just like me there was nothing she could do about it. I belonged here in Salem and she belonged where time needed her.

Pulling away I could still feel her breath upon my lips. I prayed that I would always remember this moment with her, this goodbye, this kiss showing that we did care for one another. Putting my arms around her I held Abigail close to me and just closed my eyes. I knew I was stalling trying to make her stay as long as I could. Yet it couldn't last forever. I could feel her looking up at me and in turn I looked down at her.

"Will you watch out for little Abigail as well? After all she is my namesake." she said trying to lighten the mood.

"Nothing to worry about, I promise no harm shall come to her." I nod my head in agreement.

"I'm sorry I wasn't honest with you from the start, I had a feeling you wouldn't have believed me. Do you forgive me?" Abigail asks me and my answer is to kiss her again.

Would I have believed her from the start? Probably not but now I had to reason to disbelieve her. As I held her closer and deepened our kiss I could already sense that our last bit of time together was drawing to a close. Pulling away one last time a device Abigail had was going off and she had a sad look on her face.

"I have to go, keep your promises ok because I will know if you don't." Abigail said as I couldn't find words so instead I nodded.

Backing up from me she smiled and blew me one last kiss before she touched something on her wrist and once against disappeared, only this time it was right before my eyes.

"No wonder Jason fell in love with you, I did too and I always will." I say to no one.

Turning around I start walking back to town when I hear a loud thump behind me. Turning around I see Jason laying on the ground looking around completely confused, walking up to him I help to stand as he looks at me trying to figure out what was wrong.

"What happened? Where am I?" Jason asks me and just like Abigail said I had to make sure her forgot so I decided to lie to him.

"One of the streetwalkers brought you out here probably to rob you and knocked you out, I just found you and am taking you back to town." I reply as he believes my story and nods.

"Women, can't live with them or without them. Yet they seem to cause so much trouble." Jason says as we continue to walk.

Looking up at the sky as if Abigail could see me I smile and shake my head.

"You have no idea my friend." I laugh as we walk back to town.
