Part 16

Running back to Aro I was quick to tell him what I had done and he stood confused for a few moments looking between Petra and I. Yes I had saved her but I hadn't killed Alexander, not yet that is after all he could still be used for information.

"Why do I get the feeling you have done things like this before?" Aro asked with a grin on his face apparently now understanding why I was keeping Alexander alive.

"Once or twice, still he told me Hermes is fighting tomorrow. Anyway you could get me inside he's one of the ones I have to save." I ask and Aro nods while putting his hand under his chin as if he were thinking about his plan.

"Getting in won't be a problem, its getting you to Hermes that might be. After all why would a noble well forgive me soon to be noble woman want to see a gladiator?" Aro said as I was trying to think of an answer to give him.

"To sleep with him." Petra said earning a shocked look from Aro and myself. "Oh come now you two, you know it happens so don't act as though you don't. I could take her myself and pretend it is in preparation for her marriage."

At this point my jaw was probably on the ground. Petra was the one who came up with a very good and convincing plan. Aro would need to be convinced though...wouldn't he? Looking over at Aro I could see his hand still under his chin but he was also nodding in agreement to every word that his sister was saying.

"Clever idea Petra, I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time something like this was suggested. It would have to be much earlier than when he would fight though, they wouldn't want to tire him about before going into the Arena. Petra make sure she wears a mask as well." Aro said as he went to an opening over looking the city,

"Of course brother, no harm shall come to her, you have my word." Petra said then took off further into the house.

Walking up to Aro I wanted to know what he really thought of plan and if he thought it would be successful. Standing beside him I admit he did have a bit of an intimidating presence about him but a part of me knew I could trust him. Moving to stand in front of him his eyes make contact with mine.

"We know how to get me in but what about out and explaining a missing gladiator?" I ask and his gaze goes back to the ground.

"We may need a body then." Aro says not looking up at me.

"A body? How in the world would we get one of those?" I asked concerned and curious about what was about to happen tomorrow.

"Let Petra and I worry about that, you go and get some rest you will need to look well tomorrow. You have no need to fear or worry, I give you my word." Aro says then kisses my forehead and walks off.

What is it with people in this time thinking they have to take care of me? Is it just a Roman thing really? Looking back out to the city I knew where to find one of the men but I actually wasn't suppose to send Hermes back to the future. At least Fred didn't say anything about him. Fred! That's right maybe I can find a mirror around here and contact him. Running back inside I quickly find the first mirror and stand before it.

"Fred? Oh please Fred tell me you can hear me?" I ask and within a matter or moments I hear a voice reply back to me.

"Abigail! Thank god I have been trying to contact you for so long but the signal there isn't exactly ideal." Fred sighed. "Ok still haven't gotten the ID on guy #3. Do you have any good news?"

"Hermes is fighting tomorrow and I know he isn't one of the ones I was sent back to save but I have to get him out of there somehow any way that you can help me out Fred?" I ask him praying to hear a yes.

"Hmmm, I could send him to a different time and place no idea where at the moment but any place would be better than a cell. Plus when you got him I could probably program a double to be in his place for at least fifteen minutes." Fred said and I felt automatically relieved.

"Fred you are a genius. When I get to him how do I contact you?" I question as I look around and all the sudden there is a bright light coming from the table in front of me and three objects appear upon it.

"The necklace will allow me to communicate with you, the bracelet will transport Hermes to any time or place he wants to be even limbo, then the ring it will make the double appear but like I said only for fifteen minutes, got that Cinderella?" Fred says with a laugh.

Taking the items I hide them in a purse that Petra insists I carry around with me literally everywhere.

"Yes Fred I understand and thanks. You have more gadgets then I know about don't you? Never mind don't answer that. I'll contact you tomorrow." I say and turn and walk off back to what was my room.

There was a lot going to be happening tomorrow. Still at least I could give Hermes his freedom, he could pick when and where to go and Fred would transport him there. Sighing I open my door and am surprised to see Aro putting something on my bed. Walking in more I can see it looks like a costume. Puzzled I looked at Aro and waited for an explanation.

"The costume of Diana, the goddess of the hunt, the one whose name you share for the moment." Aro smiles as he walked me over to the bed and explains what little improvements he did on the outfit if I run into trouble. "The shawl could be used to kill as well in case you need to take out a guard before I or Petra can come to your aid."

"You really thought of everything didn't you?" I ask as he looks at me and nods.

"I take my obligation to you very serious Abigail, perhaps in helping you it will erase the foul deeds I have done in my life." Aro says as he turns away from me but I stop him and make him face me again.

"All of us have done things we regret, we're human, we are programmed to fail." I say trying to comfort him though I have no idea what he's done.

"Then hopefully you will help me rewrite my programming as you call it." he replies as he onces again kisses my forehead and leaves the room.
