Thirty six

It was now a month since the break up. Jimin tried some more to rekindle their relationship but Taehyung was adamant on the separation. He was done. The former couple where no longer the same. The days and weeks seemed to drag on painfully, slowly and Jimin longed for escape. He wanted to return to his own timeline. The torture was too much to handle. Seeing Taehyung and not being able to be with him was difficult and because they lived in the same dorm, they ended up running into each other on countless occasions and during those times, they would simply nod their heads at each other and walk past as though they where strangers.

Jimin visited Jung min in the orphanage whenever Taehyung wasn't there. He had begged Sunmi to inform him whenever Taehyung comes and goes in other to reduce the chances of running into him. It worked but Jung min could tell right away that things where not right with his favorite hyungs.

One day, Jimin was cradling Jung min in his arms while looking at the pictures taken during the fundraiser and the camping trip. Whenever he laid his eyes on Taehyung's image, tears fell down his eyes. He stopped when he felt Jung min's little hands on his cheeks wiping his tears away. He looked at him so pitifully and Jimin immediately stopped crying in other not to worry the little boy. He hugged him tighter.

"I'm fine Minnie, I'm fine!" he whispered before planting a small kiss on the little boy's cheek. Jung min held him tighter and Jimin felt much better but he dreaded the time when Jung min would leave with his new parents. The adoption had already been processed and he would be gone any moment. The realization hurt Jimin who had come to love and cherish the little one as much as Taehyung did. He had come to see value in the things Taehyung had loved just like the orphanage and the kids in them.

Finally, the final years where rounding up their projects and soon graduation was just around the corner. It was getting colder soon. Jimin had suddenly called his parents on phone one day and told them he was gay. They had always had an idea even in his real time line but they had never confronted him about it and he had never came out to them so they simply married him off but things where going to be different now. He wished he had the courage to have done this but he had been too much of a coward who allowed his parents to live his life for him. They where out of their wits threatening him to come back home or risk them coming to his school but he just laughed it off. He really didn't care anymore.

One day, Hoseok dragged his feets into the dorm looking tired. He was holding a paper bag in his hands as he threw it onto the bed and removed his jacket which he also dumped carelessly on the bed.

"ugh how annoying! I've told Yoongi to leave me alone yet he keeps bothering me" he complained.

Jimin shook his head. "You both haven't reconciled yet!"

The latter frowned "As if! He ruined your relationship with Taehyung!"

Jimin smiled. "He didn't ruin anything. I did. I was the one who didn't trust my boyfriend"

Hoseok scoffed.

"You should forgive him already. If you keep playing hard to get for long, he might actually stop trying and move on to someone else"

Hoseok frowned. "He dare not!" he said and Jimin chuckled.

Hoseok suddenly reached for the paper bag and brought out a rice cake. As soon as Jimin sighted it, he froze. Hoseok held it to Jimin not noticing the change in his entire countenance at first.

"Yoongi bought some for me. Here have some" he said

But Jimin wasn't there. His soul had left his body. All he could think of was Taehyung giving him rice cakes because he was too cheap to buy anything expensive except when he was going shopping buying clothes and jewelries. Tears clouded his eyes and Hoseok stared in confusion.

"Jimin, are you okay?"

"I'm fine!" he muttered in a broken voice and dived under his duvet, his body visibly shaking because he was trying to hold back his tears. Hoseok silently watched him before he spoke.

"It's Taehyung isn't it?"

No response. Hoseok sighed. "I'm tired of seeing you in this situation. This is just sad. Try moving on! Taehyung seems like he's moving on fine without you seeing as how he's actively preparing for the last game. He's even glowing!"

"Stop! I know" Jimin responded in a muffled voice but it did not help to give him strength. It only made things worse because his ex seemed to really be glowing. He was even getting more handsome and lots of admirers flocked around him. Jimin tried not to show how it affected him by pretending like he didn't notice but he definitely did

How wrong he was because Taehyung was definitely not alright. He tried to show he was okay by putting up fake smiles and dressing up as best as he can to mask his suffering. Since the last game of the season was at hand, he worked harder than normal because he didn't want to spend time thinking about Jimin. He didn't want to grow weak and end up banging on his door and running into his arms the moment he sees his face.

His team mates pitied him. They knew he was overworking himself because he was in pain but no one could comfort him. No one could ease his troubles but Jungkook thought he'd try one day since he was partly the cause of his problem.

They had finished practice and where heading home. Taehyung had slung his bag over his shoulder when he felt a hand on his back. He turned and saw Jungkook with a weary look in his eyes.

"Hey hyung!" He said.

It had been so long since Jungkook had called him hyung. There was an uneasy silence between the two of them so Jungkook decided to talk first.

"I'm sorry Taehyung. I'm sorry about everything!" he said.

The latter was quiet but Jungkook continued.

"I'm sorry for treating you the way i did because of Jimin. You didn't deserve that. We used to be friends. We had each other's backs but I was so obsessed with having everything that i forgot how close we were before. You are one of the reasons why I've become the person i am now"

He sighed. "I wouldn't have been able to be with him anyway since I'm aromantic. I can't love him or anyone else"

Taehyung just stared at him quietly.

"So, if there's a way you can forget everything that happened I'll be really grateful! I hope we can be as we where before"

Taehyung finally smiled. "I'm not angry with you anymore Kookie because now I'm certain you're no longer a rival!"

Jungkook rolled his eyes and Taehyung ruffled his head affectionately.

"I hope we can be friends again!"

They both nodded. Jungkook lowered his head.

"And i hope you can finally work things out with Jimin. I know he really loves you"

Taehyung sighed sadly. "You think so?"

Jungkook nodded."I know" he whispered before he began to twist his fingers nervously.

"Em...i heard that your room mate Yugyeom transferred to another medical school last week. Is that true?"

Taehyung nodded taking note of the look of sadness in Jungkook's eyes. "Yes! He told me about you two. He was so hurt that he decided to leave!"

Jungkook scoffed harshly. "And he said he could handle me. He was just a liar!"

He looked really upset but then offered a big smile

"You didn't bring your car right? Let me drop you off at your house" he said and Taehyung just nodded to his request and they left together putting an end to months of rivalry.

The days flew past until the game finally took place and Bangtan college won their final game. The whole school celebrated their win but of course the former best friends and couples kept their distance. Hoseok was frustrated. He was getting impatient with the both of them. When the time came for them to graduate, it was time to graduate, Yoongi and Hoseok where graduating with Jimin and Taemin while Namjoon was graduating with Taehyung. Jimin's parents didn't even come because they where upset at him. Again, he didn't care. This wasn't even his reality anyway. The real people he had to face was in his own time line. He took pictures with his friends and their families including the lecturers and tried to make the best out of the situation but his mood got ruined the minute his eyes met with Taehyung's. It was uncomfortable and he quickly left so he could breathe more freely.

Hoseok watched them with a sad smile on his face. He didn't know what to do to bring the former best friends back together again but he had to try anything so he approached Taehyung who was standing far away from the crowd of graduates and well wishers. He tapped his shoulder to get his attention and Taehyung turned to smile at him.

"Hey hyung!"

Hoseok frowned. "Don't hey me! I'm sick of you! I'm sick of the both of you!"

Taehyung sighed as Hoseok went on.

"Isn't it enough? Haven't you punished Jimin enough? He made a mistake. Everyone does. You're not living with him so you have no idea what I have to go through"

He breathed heavily. "He sighs everyday! He never smiles and he cries because of rice cakes!"

"Rice cakes!" He repeated loudly and Taehyung almost teared up.

Hoseok eyed him "But you look fine! You don't seem affected at all"

Taehyung stared at him. "You think I'm fine? I'm not fine. I've only made peace with myself that's all."

He scoffed. "You have no idea the hell I'm going through right now. I still love Jimin. I still want to be with him..."

"Then why?"

"I want to be sure I'm the one he needs in his life. I want to leave the decision to him. I'm done chasing after him not sure of where i stand. I don't want to live like that. I want to have faith in us"

He shook his head. "If we reconcile just like that, the circle repeats itself and we'll break up again and end up resenting each other"

He sighed. "I don't want that. I'm just going to wait patiently. Wait for him to come to me!"

Hoseok glared at him. "Isn't this your pride talking?"

Taehyung chuckled. "Maybe!"

Hoseok suddenly grabbed his hand.  "I won't have this. At least, we deserve to take a picture together. All of us"

Taehyung protested but Hoseok was determined, dragging him to where Jimin stood talking to Taemin.

He left Taehyung there to call Yoongi, Jin, Namjoon  and even Jungkook to take a group photo. It was awkward standing there together. Even Taemin could feel the heat and he quickly excused himself. They couldn't even bring themselves to look at each other until the rest came back with the photographer.

Hoseok stood between them as the rest gathered around.

"Say cheese!" He yelled. Everyone smiled open toothed as the camera took their picture and the graduates threw their caps in the air.

There was an after party at Namjoon's house. The exes where forced to come and it was torture seeing everyone having a good time except them. Hoseok and Yoongi ended up making out in the dance floor after taking one too many drinks. Hoseok would probably regret it the next morning but right now, he couldn't be bothered.

Jimin drank more than he could endure and ended up getting really drunk. When the party got boring signalling it was over, people began to leave to their apartments or hostels. Taehyung stared at Jimin slumped heavily on the couch. He was just a little tipsy so he was well aware of his environment but he couldn't leave Jimin in his state so he went to him and gathered him in his arms bridal style.

Jimin's face was bright red as his eyes slightly opened and he looked at him.

"I hate you! You know that? I hate you!" He murmured drunkenly.

Taehyung didn't react as he just carried him to his jeep parked outside the house.

"Does this even make sense? What do you even want from me? I didn't leave my time line to come here and experience this type of pain because of you!"

He froze and looked at Jimin who was now slightly hitting his chest.

"You weren't even part of my plan. If only i had known, I should have stayed where i was."

What the hell was he blabbering about?

He finally reached the car and placed Jimin in the passenger seat.

"I wish I had never met the fairy!"

Fairy?

Taehyung couldn't understand a thing that came out from Jimin's mouth. He murmured some more until he finally passed out. Taehyung shook his head and drove away. Jimin woke up the next morning with a heavy bang in his head. He felt dizzy and ran to the bathroom to throw up. After washing his mouth, he tried to recall how he ended up back in his group even though he had been too drunk to move by himself.

After thinking for a while, he finally remembered. It was Taehyung and he had blabbered nonsense from his mouth. He wanted to tear his hair out of his skull in embarrassment when he heard a notification sound ring in his phone which was lying on his bedside table. He quickly grabbed it and saw it was a message from Taehyung. It was simple and straight to the point.

Come to the orphanage.
Today is the day

This was the day Jung min was leaving the orphanage and going home with his new parents. His heart was heavy as he dressed quickly and found his way to the orphanage. Sunmi and some of the staffs where standing in front of the building watching Taehyung hug the child tightly. He was full of sorrow, cheeks stained with tears as he held the boy in his arms.

Jung min saw him from afar and released himself from Taehyung as he ran into his arms. Jimin held him tightly feeling terribly as tears already started falling down his eyes.

"I'm going to miss you so much!" He cried.

Jung min sniffed and held his hand then spoke in sign language.

I'll never forget you

Jimin could interprete that much by himself as he hugged Jung min again. Sunmi pulled Jung min away from him and took him to the couple who patted his back softly to stop his tears.

"I love you" He said to them as he waved.

Taehyung waved back. "We love you" he whispered and finally, he was put in the car. The couple went in after him and they drove off.

Sunmi looked sadly at the two distraught people before entering back into the orphanage with the remaining staff.

Jimin sniffed sadly. "I regret it. I wish we never let him go!"

Taehyung said nothing, his hands placed firmly on his hips.

"He's gone now. There's nothing we can do about it. At least not in this life time"

Not in this life time

Jimin kept thinking about that sentence when Taehyung stood directly in front of him.

"There's something I have to tell you!" he whispered.

"What's it?"

Taehyung was quiet for a while before he spoke again "I got accepted for the art exchange program at Harvard. I'll be leaving in two days"

Jimin was shocked. "What? So soon?"

Taehyung nodded. "Yes, I've been arranging it for a while now!"

Jimin bit his lips. "You know you don't have to tell me right?"

"I know but i felt i just had to for old times sake and i guess we need closure"

Jimin lowered his head. "Yes closure!" He put up a fake smile " I hope everything works out well for you!"

"Thank you!" Taehyung responded in a small weak voice.

The awkwardness set in again and Jimin slowly backed away before turning away and walking fast. He didn't want Taehyung to see him like this. So broken. But now, he was faced with a dilemma. What was he going to to do now?

Thanks so much for reading. To be continued...
