A Fresh One

A Fresh One

by VeraLoy

Shoulders hunched against the rain, Dan followed his uncle though the graveyard. The spade's iron handle was already cold and slippery in his grip and he wondered how on earth Jeb thought they were going to get the body out of the grave on a night like this.

But Jeb had insisted. "Customer promised a good price for a fresh one!"

The two men reached their goal, the newly-turned earth already slick and muddy.

"What's that?" hissed Jeb, looking over Dan's shoulder. Dan turned, then something struck him hard on the head.

"Sorry, Dan, but the price was too good."
