03: Not a Monster.

Taehyung glances over at you as he walks beside you, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. He hesitates for a moment before finally speaking up.

"So, uh...can I ask you something?"

"hmm."

Taehyung hesitates for a moment, his mind flickering with a million different questions. But he knows he needs to keep things casual, so he goes with something simple.

"What...what are you thinking about right now?"

"Why do you want to know?" You glare at him.

Taehyung falters for a moment, caught off guard by your question. He shrugs, trying to keep his response casual.

"I don't know, I'm just curious. Wanted to know what's going on in that pretty head of yours."

"nothing."

Taehyung's eyebrows shoot up in surprise at your blunt response, a small smirk on his lips.

"Wait, nothing? You're not thinking about anything? Not even thinking about how handsome and charming I am?"

You halt, chewing on your lip frustrated, "you again? that playboyish cheesiness? Damn you!"

Taehyung falters as you stop and chastise him again, realizing that he slipped into the old, cheeky playboy persona once more. He cringes internally, feeling a pang of frustration with himself.

"I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I...I keep falling back into that old habit. It's just...it's so hard to break."

"Gosh, fix yourself first. You are making me cringe." You go and sit in the bus stand.

Taehyung watches as you sit in the bus stand, feeling a pang of frustration and disappointment in himself. He rubs his hand over his face, trying to compose himself.

"I...I know, I know. I'm cringing too. It's just...old habits die hard, I guess. I'm really trying here. But...but I get it if I'm too much of a cringefest right now."

"You are." You scoff.

Taehyung's expression falls further as you confirm his fears. He leans against the bus stand, slouching a bit. He looks defeated, but there's still a hint of determination in his eyes.

"I know, I know. I'm working on it. I swear. I'm just...I'm not used to being genuine. I'm not used to being real. I'm used to just saying all the right things and being charming. It's so ingrained in me, but I'm trying."

You sigh looking around.

Taehyung nods, a hint of desperation in his eyes as he looks over at you. He can feel the weight of your expectations sitting heavily on his shoulders, but he's determined not to disappoint you.

"I will. I promise. I'm going to do better, be better. I'm going to show you the real me. The one under all the bullshit."

You remain silent.

Taehyung sits silently beside you, frustrated at himself for falling back into his old habits. His fingers tap restlessly against his thigh as he tries to come up with something to say, something that doesn't sound like a cheesy pick-up line. But the silence between you feels heavy, and he feels the need to break it.

"Can...can I ask you something, honestly?"

"hmm. ask wisely this time."

Taehyung hesitates for a moment, knowing he needs to choose his words carefully. He takes a deep breath, preparing himself before speaking.

"Why did you agree to give me a chance? Like...you could have just said no, and told me to get lost. So...why did you say yes?"

"Are you not grateful that I gave the chance to you? I can happily take it back as well, should I?"

Taehyung's eyes widen and he shakes his head frantically. His heart skips a beat at the threat of you taking back the chance.

"No, no, no! That's not what I meant, that's not what I meant at all. I'm...I'm so grateful that you're giving me this chance. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I swear. I just...I just want to understand why you're willing to give me the time of day. After everything I've done."

"because..." You trail off abruptly.

Taehyung waits patiently for your answer, his fingers still tapping against his thigh. There's a mixture of hope and trepidation in his eyes, desperately waiting to understand your thought process.

"Because...what?"

You breath deeply, "...because everyone deserves a chance. Even if its a monster or anything of that sort."

Taehyung's eyes widen slightly at your answer, surprised at the depth of your thinking. He feels a flicker of warmth in his chest, realizing that you're not just giving him a chance out of pity or necessity, but because you genuinely believe in second chances.

"Oh. That's...that's a really profound way of looking at things. I never thought of it like that. I...I appreciate you giving me a chance, even if I am a 'monster' or whatever."

"You are not a monster...you might be called bad but not bad enough to be called a 'monster', I guess." You blurt out involuntarily.

Taehyung's eyes widen at your sudden interjection, surprised at the quickness and conviction in your voice. His heart skips a beat, touched by your statement as he looks over at you.

"You...you really think I'm not a monster?"

"Of course not, you maybe a playboy, flicking with feelings but...I don't think you are a monster. Though you are capable of becoming one, I think you have the potential." You scowl.

Taehyung feels a pang of guilt at your words, knowing you're right. He's played with feelings before and hurt people in the process. But your statement also sparks something in him, a desire to prove that he can be better. He looks at you, his eyes earnest.

"I...I know I have the potential to be a monster. I've...I've hurt people before. I know that. But I'm determined to prove that I can be better. I won't let my past define me or my future actions."

"I  hope so too..."

The bus arrives, breaking the conversation.

Taehyung is snapped out of his thoughts as the bus arrives, his eyes glancing up at the large vehicle.

"Guess...guess that's your ride, huh?"

"yes..."

Taehyung nods, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. He hadn't realized how much he enjoyed your company until now. He rubs the back of his neck feeling a bit awkward.

"Well...uh...enjoy your ride, I guess. And...and be safe."

"hmm. bye..."

Taehyung nods, his heart heavier than he wants to admit. He watches as you climb onto the bus, a thousand things he wants to say left unsaid. Instead he just offers a small wave.

"Bye. See you around."

"See you...Goodnight." You wave back noticing his sad expression.

Taehyung watches you disappear into the bus, his heart sinking as the vehicle pulls away. He stands there for a moment, his mind filled with thoughts and emotions. He feels a pang of sadness that you're gone, but also a determination to make the most of the chance you've given him.

"See you..." He mutters under his breath, watching until the bus is out of sight.
